UPDATE: 04/19/2019 Sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole. Their first opportunity to go before the parole board is in 25 years. Two of their children have so far given victim impact statements. A daughter said the father changed their mother. He was the one in charge. David Turpin said "if I've done anything to cause them harm..." David still doesn't think he did anything wrong. David and Louise both talk about God, thanking God for their children whom they feel are blessings. A son said he still has nightmares but has forgiven his parents. The daughter also forgave them and said she still loved them.

01/28/2018 The case finally showed up in Riverside County Superior Court unsealed. Previously it was sealed. This is just for David Turpin. Louise has all the same charges except lewd act with a minor. The charges are dated 01/01/2010. I assume that is when the crimes started eight years ago.

01/24/2017 I had thought all their children's names started with a "J." It was just confirmed that Louise told her neighbor all their children's name start with a "J."
"Judge Smith approved a three-year protective order that bars the parents from contacting their children in any way — including by phone or electronically — except through their lawyer." Next hearing February 23, 2018.
Hearing today. DA is seeking a protective order to prevent the parents from contacting the children.

David Turpin was getting a job transfer from California to Oklahoma with the defense contractor Northrop Grumann. They were preparing to move to Oklahoma. Police said moving boxes were in the home.
Information from old neighbors in Texas.
Former Texan neighbours of David and Louise Turpin, the American couple whose 13 children were discovered chained and malnourished last week, have described a previous home littered with faeces, dead animals and a makeshift classroom.
Ricky Vinyard, a tree feller from Rio Vista also told how one Christmas eight bikes arrived but remained untouched outside until they bleached in the sun.
And that one of the daughters once ran away from home, only to be returned to her parents by another local resident.
“It was waist-deep in filth. There were dead dogs and cats in there,” he told the Los Angeles Times.
He described how he found two Chihuahuas that had survived by eating waste from a mound of soiled nappies in a trailer behind the property where the children slept.
“There were no beds, just mattresses."
Inside the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home he said that: "There wasn’t a place that wasn’t filthy.
“Everything had locks on it: the closet had locks, the toy chest, the refrigerator.”

David's brother is Randy Turpin a preacher and writer of religious books. The entire family is very religious. In fact the reverends in the family make their money off religion. Below is a video of Randy Turpin preaching. I emailed him asking if he's David's brother. He opened the email but did not reply. He is.
Information from someone who knows Louise's sister Elizabeth Flores. I paraphrased it to avoid cut/paste so as not to give away identity of informant.
"Elizabeth has seven children. The Department of Health was called on her. When they put her father in a nursing home they moved to WV from TN and were living in squalor. Cats locked in the basement, dogs tied to trees in the yard without shelter or water. The kids never had a bite to eat. Elizabeth stated she thought her husband was molesting the girls. All of the kids were sleeping on the filthy floor on carpet with no blankets. The entire family is crazy. Her father was a well respected man in our community."
The children were not allowed to use the restroom. What did the poor girls do during their periods? Maybe they were too thin to have periods? Nightmare.
According to the family David Turpin basically kidnapped Louise from her high school and took her to Texas to get married. Louise's father did not approve of David. After Louise went with David to Texas, Louise's father approved the marriage. People can marry in West Virginia at age 16.

I'm amazed David got a public defender when he has $150K equity in the home and $100K+ in his retirement accounts. You generally have to be penniless to get a public defender.

ORIGINAL: David Allen Turpin was born October 17, 1961. He is currently in Riverside County jail. He is charged with nine felony counts of torture and ten felony counts of child endangerment. David Turpin attended Glenwood Junior High then Princeton High School, graduating in 1979, and consistently made the school’s honor roll with grades of B’s or better. A copy of the school’s yearbook from 1979, obtained by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, listed him as an officer in the Bible Club and Chess Club and a member of the Science Club and Acapella Choir. He graduated from Virginia Tech and was a computer engineer. Afterward, he went to work for General Dynamics in Texas. Defense contractor Lockheed Martin confirmed that Turpin worked for them until 2010.

I wonder if he got funds for charter school because he made a school? LAUSD said that each child who goes to charter school takes $8,000 per child per year. I don't know Riverside county costs. Using LAUSD as an avg, $8,000 x 8 of their kids are still school age is $64,000/year in income as a charter school. The national average is $11,000/child/year for charter school.
I can only imagine husband was too proud to ask for help. He could have sold his home, pocketed $120K and rented a place. He could have gone to a soup kitchen, pantry, sent his wife to one to get food. I think he chained them because they were starving and trying to run away to get food.
Mother's sister is a "writer." She states she was abused as a child. Was Louise also abused? These people are all very religious, into having huge families. They are from West Virginia and their families used to be coal miners.

"Early Sunday morning on January 14, 2018, a 17-year old juvenile escaped from her residence situated in the 100 Block of Muir Woods Road, Perris and managed to call 911 from a cellular device she found inside the house. The teenager claimed her 12 brothers and sisters were being held captive inside the residence by her parents and further claimed some of her siblings were bound with chains and padlocks.
When Police Officers from the Perris Police Department and Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department met with the juvenile, she appeared to be only 10 years old and slightly emaciated. After a brief interview with the female, they contacted 57-year old David Allen Turpin and 49-year old Louise Anna Turpin at the residence where the teenager escaped.
Further investigation revealed several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark and foul-smelling surroundings, but the parents were unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner. Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house, but were shocked to discover that 7 of them were actually adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29. The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty. Perris Station Detectives were dispatched to the residence for further investigation.
All 13 victims, ranging from the age of 2 to 29, were transported to the Perris Station and interviewed. Both parents were detained and transported to the station for further investigation. Child Protective Services (CPS) and Adult Protective Services (APS) arrived to assist in the investigation. The victims were provided with food and beverages after they claimed to be starving.
The six children were eventually transported to the Riverside University Hospital System (RUHS) for medical examinations and admitted for treatment. The seven adult children were transported to Corona Regional Medical Center for an examination and admitted for medical treatment.
Both parents were interviewed in this matter and subsequently transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center (RPDC). They were booked for violations of California Penal Code Section 206–Torture and Section 273a(A)–Child Endangerment. Bail was set at $9,000,000.00 each.
