Noche de Muertos at Grand Park by Mary Cummins, Maria Rivera

There was a lot of wind and rain during the last couple of days of the Gloria Molina Grand Park Dia de Muertos event which ran from October 24th to November 1st. Some had to add canopies. Some canopies were destroyed from the wind. The rain caused the colors in the tissue paper flowers to run onto the photographs and altars. Everyone still had a great time. Lots of entertainment, dancing, musicians and interactive Dia de Muertos booths. There was Mexican hair braiding with beautiful ribbons and bows, sugar skull making, face painting, limpias with incense and much more.

Closing Celebration

Illuminating the path between life and death through light, music and cultural expression, the celebration becomes the luminous Noche de los Muertos. Join us as we close this year’s Downtown Día with reflection, joy, and community spirit.

Headlining Performances

Our closing celebration features an unforgettable lineup with The Negrete Family, the viral family band blending banda roots with pop flair 🎺; DJ Butchona, bringing corridos and banda to a family house party where you can come as you are 🎧; Lxs Cochinxs, serving up Cumbia Cochina with chicha, merengue, punk, and rave beats 💃; and Mosa!

Festival Highlights

Families can take part in hands-on activities like Indigenous Mexican ribbon braiding with Ponte Your Monos, sugar skull decorating with Kalaveritas Y Mas, face painting with Doodling Faces, and paper weaving with Ana Reyes. As night falls, candlelight and offerings will illuminate the park as we gather in unity.

Take 3 Film Festival presented by East LA Film Festival, Panamanian International Film Festival/LA and La Plaza de Cultura y Artes was held October 4, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Event information. Hosted by Catrinas. Performances by Diablos Catrinas, Danza de las Ollas Chinelos, Cuerudos negritos y bandas de musica, Telasofa. Movie premier at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes next to Olvera Street El Pueblo. I was lucky enough to meet Francesca la bailarina de los jornaleros del norte outside the event on Olvera street. Had to get a photo and tell her I'm her biggest fan. I've taken a few videos of her dancing at pro immigrant events.
