Rachel graduated from Stanford University in 1993. She graduated with honors and distinction after 3.5 years. She received her B.A in public policy and ethics in society. She wa a volunteer for serveral AIDS related programs. She was an outstanding high school volleyball player. She was chosen as a Rhodes Scholar in 1994 to attend Oxford University in England. She was also chosen to receive the equally prestigious Marshall scholarship but declined so she could take the Rhodes scholarship. (San Francisco Examiner, Dec 12, 1994).

Robert Maddow went to law school at UC Hastings College in San Francisco. He passed the California bar exam December 1967 and became a lawyer January 1968. He is currently a California lawyer working at Bold, Polisner, Maddow et al in Walnut Creek, California. Robert Maddow met his wife Elaine Gosse in 1965 at a party in California. Elaine had arrived in California from Newfoundland, Canada back in 1963. Elaine worked in a financial business at the time as a portfolio analyst for Dean Witter. Her sister Barbara at the time worked as the secretary to the President of the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange.

Rachel Maddow's mother is Elaine T Gosse. She was born April 16, 1941 in St. John's, Torbay, Newfoundland, Canada. Elaine married Robert Maddow November 30, 1968 in San Francisco, California. She petitioned to be a US citizen in 1973 and became a citizen March 6, 1973. She was a school administrator.

Rachel Maddow's paternal grandmother was Geertruide "Gertrude" "Trudy" Maria Smits. She married Bernard Maddow in New York January 13, 1938. Trudy was born September 8, 1915 in Paterson, New Jersey. She and her family were members of the North Reformed Dutch Church in Passaic, New Jersey. Trudy graduated from Clifton High School in Clifton, New Jersey around 1933. Her high school nickname was "Smitty." Her yearbook quote was "Intelligence is to genius as the whole is in proportion to it's parts." Smitty was on the Reflector Staff June 1933. Rachel Maddow's maternal grandfather was Daniel Joseph Gosse born December 5, 1894 in Torbay, Newfoundland, Canada, died November 6, 1973 in Torbay, Canada. 1917 he registered for the military in the US in Bangor, Maine. His occupation is listed as fisherman for Bay State Fishers working on the coast waters. He was single at that time stating he had to support his mother and father. He came to the US to work as an alien. 1945 in Canada he was listed as a cod fisher.

Rachel Maddow's maternal grandmother was Ann F McGrath born August 1909 in Torbay, Canada. They married about 1935. They had eight children, Sister Joan Gosse b. 1936, Austin Mark Gosse 1936-1994, Barbara Gosse b. 1938, William Daniel Gosse 1939-2014, Daniel Gosse, Anne Gosse O'Discoll b. 1943, Mary Gosse b. 1945 and Elaine Gosse.

Rachel Maddow's paternal great grandfather on the Maddow side was William Maddow July 9, 1881 Poltava, Ukraine to May 25, 1958. Below is his obituary.

A native of Russia, he came to this country 65 years ago and had resided in the Passaic-Clifton area since. Mr. Maddow was an electrical contractor. Funeral services were conducted yesterday at 12 noon in the chapel at 66 Howe Ave., Passaic. Rabbi Max Zucker of Temple Emanuel, Passaic, officiated. Interment was in King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Surviving are his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Pauline) Stein of Miami, Flo.; Mrs. Murray (Alice) Goldberg of Fair Lawn; Mrs. Dunn (Dorothy) Joseph of Long Beach, N. William Maddow's father was Abraham/Benjamin Medwedof/Medwedow/Maddow b. 1840 from Ukriane/Russia. His mother was Anna b. 1865.

Rachel Maddow's paternal great grandmother on the Maddow side was Sarah Bernhardt b. 1888 Russia died August 7, 1966 New Jersey. Below is her obituary.

"Sarah Maddow, 77. Fair Lawn - Mrs Sarah Bernhardt Maddow. 77. of 10-15 Plymouth Drive, died yesterday at Brookwood Nursing Home, Saddle Brook. Born in Russia, she came to this country 74 years ago. She had lived in this Borough for the past 74 years and previously in Passaic. Her husband William died in 1958. She is survived by four daughters: Mrs Murray (Alice) Goldberg, with whom she resided and at whose home the mourning period will be observed: Mrs. Edward (Pauline) Stein of Miami: Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Dunn of Long Beach. N.Y.: and Mrs. Peter (Lillian) Ianuzzi of Passaic: a son Bernard of San Diego, Calif: nine grandchildren: and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be toay at 2 P. M at the George Louis Jewish Memorial Chapel, 747 Market Street. Paterson Rabbi David H. Panitz of Temple Emanuel will officiate. Burial will be in King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Sarah Bernhardt Maddow's parents were Abraham/Abraha Bernhardt from Lithuania and Hanna/Annie Leah Matuk b. 1854 in Shirvent, Lithuania.

Rachel Maddow's maternal great grandfather on the Smits side was John Smits 1881-1967 born in Holland and died in Passaic, New Jersey. Below is his obituary.

"John Smits, Was Shipping Clerk. NORTH HALEDON - John Smits. 86. former Clifton and Plainfield resident, died today in the Holland Christian Home, Graham Avenue, after a brief illness. Born in The Netherlands, Mr Smits came to the United States 49 years ago. He was a resident of the home for two years. Before retiring he was employed as a shipping clerk. His wife, the former Margaret Keyser, died in 1947. Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at the home. The Rev. Robert Prins of the First Christian Reformed Church, Paterson, will officiate. Burial will be in Crest haven Memorial Park, Clifton. John Smit's parents were Dirk Smits and Tona A Van Der Vliet from Holland.

Rachel Maddow's maternal great grandmother on the Smits side was Grietje Margaret "Maggie" Keijzer/Keyzer/Keyser born 1882 in Holland and died 1949 in Passaic, New Jersey. Below is a photo of her when she was married to her first husband John Jan Dirk Daalder 1878-1904. Maggie had four children with Daalder, Richard, John, Marie and Anna Daalder. She later had about ten more children with John Smits.

UPDATE: 09/16/2019 Ric Ocasek aka Richard Otcasek died of heart disease and emphysema. He had high blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

ORIGINAL: Ric Ocasek, Richard Theodore Otcasek, was born March 23, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. His father's side is Austrian, Hungarian, Czechoslovakian. His mother's side is Irish. He attended Maple Heights High School 1961-1963 in Maple Heights, Ohio. Below are school pics from 1963 and 1961 respectively.

Richard Otcasek's parents were Theodore "Ted" Otcasek January 16, 1921 Cleveland, Ohio - July 2, 2003, San Diego, California and Mary Pauline Williams March 29, 1920, Baltimore, Maryland - July 26, 2008, Coronado, San Diego, California. Ric's father Theodore worked for Air Research and Development Command as a Supervisor.

Ric Ocasek, Richard Otcasek was married three times. His first wife was Constance "Connie" Jean Campbell b. 1946. Together they had two sons, Christopher A Otcasek June 26, 1964 and Adam Otcasek. They were married for seven years. Connie filed for divorce for "gross neglect/extreme cruelty." She won the divorce March 25, 1971, see below.

Ric's second wife was Suzznne G Lapointe b. 1949. They were married in Ohio in 1971. Together they had two sons, Eron Justin Otcasek Dec 7, 1973 and Derek R Otcasek, October 27, 1981. They were married until Ric met Paulina in 1988.

Ric's third wife was Paulina Elisa Porizkova b. 1965. They married in 1989 in Manhattan, New York. Together they had two sons, Jonathan Raven Otcasek November 4, 1993 and Oliver Otcasek 1999. (I may have Jonathan and Oliver's birth dates mixed). Ric and Paulina separated in 2018.

During all of Ric's marriages I'm pretty sure he was sleeping around. He slept with my sister around 1986 in Los Angeles.

Ric's maternal grandparents were John Joseph Williams October 20, 1886 Pennsylvania - May 5, 1933 District of Colombia and Claire Elizabeth Leonard 1886 Pennsylvania - July 22, 1932 Baltimore, Maryland.

ORIGINAL: Brenton Tarrant, Brenton "Brento" Harrison Tarrant, born 1990 in Grafton, New South Wales, Australia. His father was Rodney Francis Tarrant 1960 - 2010. Below is part of the father's obituary from August 21, 2010. Rodney worked for James Hardie Industries which processed asbestos. Maybe Brenton got money from the company when his father Rodney died of asbestosis.

"Rodney Got Most out of Short Life; Rodney Tarrant

The saying that the good die young doesn't apply to everyone who passes on, but in the case of Rodney Tarrant, who died in April from cancer aged 49, this term would be apt.

The sixth of nine children to John and Joyce Tarrant, of Great Marlow, Rodney was a dedicated family man, father of Lauren and Brenton, and a competitive athlete.

After completing his Year 10 School Certificate at Saint Aloysius, Rodney began his apprenticeship at Woods Garage before going on to work with his father on the local garbage run when he was 22.

Chatting to a very proud mother, Mrs Tarrant reflected on a son who never thought anything was much bother.

"Rodney had a very friendly, gentle nature, he never said a bad word about anyone," she said.

"He was one of those people who were good at anything he wanted to do. He always tried his best and was able to achieve his goals without too much fuss."

Recalling a conversation with some of the many people who attended his funeral, Mrs Tarrant said her son's character was evident by their words.

"They had never seen anyone with as many friends as Rodney because he never lost one," she said.

The inspiration for Rodney's competitive stage of his life came after he married Sharon Fitzgerald in 1984 and within two years he had given up cigarettes and was focusing on his fitness.

After six months of training between two and three hours per day either cycling or running, Rodney entered his first competitive event, the 1987 North Coast Half Marathon.

He finished 40th overall, which inspired a 13-year competitive career which saw him complete 75 triathlons, including the gruelling Foster Iron man Triathalon where he finished 39th overall and 13th in the over-30 years class. …"

His mother is Sharon/Sharyn Maree Fitzgerald an English teacher at a local school.

His paternal grandparents are John Lynch Tarrant 1925-2002 and Joyce May Knox Tarrant b. 1925 94 years old. They were married in 1945. His maternal grandparents are William Frederick Fitzgerald and Maree Nevell Hicks. All of the relatives listed in the tree were born in Australia, Ireland, Scotland and England. They were mainly farmers the generation before Brenton's father.

As you can see his family is very white. I don't see any mixing at all. All the names are Irish. Perhaps that's why he doesn't like Muslims or darker people. I read his "manifesto." I personally believe he's just another young man with psychological issues who probably couldn't get a girlfriend easily. He was known as shy and withdrawn as a kid. He was never married. He blames Muslims maybe because he sees them with women and is jealous. He said he maid money in crypto current but he really inherited it two years after his dad died. He inherited money from his father after his death which he used to travel and buy guns and ammo. Maybe the money came from an asbestos claim against the company where the dad worked. He stated he was in the military but he was really just a fitness instructor. Just another mentally ill person who should not have had access to guns. I saw the video of the killing in the first mosque. There is really no reason for anyone to have semi or fully automatic weapons like that. Their only purpose is mass killing. The video looked like a video game simulation of mass killing. Hard to believe it really happened. A man at the mosque says "welcome, brother" to Brenton as he was entering the Mosque then Brenton instantly shot and killed him. It's just so horrible to kill innocent people in a place of worship.

Robert "Beto" Francis O'Rourke was born September 26, 1972 in El Paso, Texas. His parents are Pat Francis O'Rourke 1942-2001 and Melissa Martha Williams b. 1948. "Political risk-taker died doing what he loved. By David Crowder, El Paso Times. Pat O'Rourke, a colorful El Paso politician, businessman and observer who lived life with passion and loved taking chances, was killed Tuesday morning riding the low-slung bicycle that was taking him across the country this time last year. A former county judge and commissioner, O'Rourke helped engineer the consolidation of the city and county tax offices and left office as the county's top Democratic official in 1986. Soon after, he switched parties to make an unsuccessful run for Congress as a Republican. He was 58; the father of one son, Robert "Beto" O'Rourke and two daughters, Charlotte and Erin; and husband to Melissa Williams O'Rourke, who runs the upscale Charlotte's furniture store on the city's West Side. Pat O'Rourke owned and managed the Ethan Allen furniture store on the West Side. A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N. Mesa, after which O'Rourke will be buried at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt, in Santa Teresa. Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home West. "I just saw him two nights ago," Commissioner Dan Haggerty said. "You just kind of think that life is funny, life is fragile, and all of the things that people think are so important aren't really." Haggerty said what many others who knew O'Rourke might have thought on hearing the news that he died doing what he loved, pedaling a bicycle alone. "When he crossed the country, we followed the diary," Haggerty said, referring to the daily account O'Rourke posted on stanton-street.com, an online magazine run by his son. "He was very deep. As much as many of us would like to say we knew him, we did not know him. I think he was a lot more of a man and a lot less of a politician than some of us would like to think."

"KORTH. Charlotte Williams Korth, 82, passed away Tuesday morning at her home. Charlotte Brooks was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin and later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she met her first husband Robert L. Williams. She and Robert moved to El Paso where they raised three children and started the furniture store that bears her name. She was known nationally as a leading interior designer and Charlotte's Furniture Store is still regarded as one of the premier furniture stores in the Southwest. In 1980 she married Fred Korth, former Secretary of the U.S. Navy. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Williams and her second husband, Fred Korth; her sister Betty Miller, her brothers, Lewis, Edward and Robert Brooks and her son- in-law Pat F O'Rourke. She is survived by her children, Patricia Williams, Melissa O'Rourke and Brooks Williams; her grandchildren, Robert F. O'Rourke, Charlotte O'Rourke Pearson, Bonnie Williams and Erin O'Rourke, and her brother-in-law Dorr Miller. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2003 from 6 to 8 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-West located at 480 N Resler. Nevada St., who died yesterday in a local hospital will be held at 9:30 a. m Wednesday in St. Patrick's cathedral. Burial will be in Evergreen. Fr. D. J. Kirgan will officiate. Rosary services will be held at 8 p. m. today in the Kaster & Maxon chapel with the Ladies of Charity in charge. Mr. O'Rourke was a Southern Pacific railroad conductor. He had lived in El Paso for the last 15 years. He is survived by his widow and three sons, James, Raymond and Frank O'Rourke, all of El Paso, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Connolly, Enid, Okla., and Mrs. George Buck, Kansas City, Mo."

Anna Elizabeth was born 1876 in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan, Wales. She married James Francis in 1906 in Kansas. She died 1963 in Orange County, California.

Newton Marion Jasper was born in Clinton, Missouri 1868 and died 1939 in Las Cruces. Per the 1930's census he was a foreman at a college dairy.

O'Nora Belle Dressler was born 1876 in Randolph County, Missouri and died 1965 in Montezuma, Kansas. From her obituary.

"Mrs. O'Nora B. Jasper. Funeral for Mrs. O'Nora B. Jasper, 88 former Garden City resident, was Saturday at the Baptist Church in Lebo. Burial was in the Lebo Cemetery. She died last Thursday at the Bethel Home in Montzuma after a lengthy illness."

Beto's maternal great grandparents were Robert Lee Williams 1888 - 1946, Eunice "Ennie" Bird 1900-1991, Lewis C Brookes 1876 - 1960 and Marguerite M Peil 1890-1927.

Robert Williams was born and died in Georgia. He was an operator at a gasoline filling station in 1940 per the census.

Eunice Bird was born in Georgia 1900 and died in Mississippi 1991. She completed four years of college. She was a supervisor for the WPA in 1940. 1958 she was the supervisor for the Housing Authority of Savannah.

Lewis Centennial Brooks was born 1876 in Ohio and died 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Below is a photo of him.

"Lewis Brooks, 83, Milwaukee died Sunday night in a Madison hospital. Among the survivors is a son, Lewis P., Sun Prairie. The body is at the Frautschi funeral home, 120 E. Wilson St."

"Lewis Brooks Rites. Funeral services for Lewis C Brooks, 83, Milwaukee, who died Sunday in a Madison hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Unitarian Meeting house, 900 University Bay Dr. Max D. Gaebler, minister, will officiate. Mr. Brooks was born in Lennox, Ia., and lived in Madison during the early 1940s. He was the organizer and president of the Sealshipt Oyster System until 1910. Mr. Brooks also organized and served as president of the Wisconsin National Fiber Container organization, Cudahy. He was a charter member of the University club of Milwaukee. Surviving are three sons, Lewis P., Sun Prairie; Edward H., Nashville, Tenn.; and Robert B., Cross Plains; two daughters, Mrs. James H. Carrier, Lincoln, Neb.; and Mrs. Robert L. Williams, El Paso, Tex.; and 15 -3 grandchildren. The Frautschi funeral home, 120 E. Wilson st., is in charge of arrangements."

Marguerite Peil Brooks was born 1890 in Wisconsin and died 1927 in Racine, Wisconsin. From her obituary.

"MRS. BROOKS, FORMER RACINE WOMAN, DIES. Mrs. Marguerite Brooks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo A. Peil of this city, and wife of Louis C. Brooks, Milwaukee, died in that city yesterday. She is survived by her husband, five children, a sister. Mrs. Walton H. Miller, this city and a brother. Edward Piel, Chicago, and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at Holy Rosary church. Milwaukee. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, in this city, and will be private."

I will now only do Beto's second great grandfather and wife on the O'Rourke side. Bernard "Barney" O'Rourke was born 1830 in Glencar, County Leitrim, Ireland. He died 1896 in Nebraska. Below is his obituary.

"Barney O'Rourke, well known about here, and who owned a farm northeast of town, but who lived near Nebraska City, was last week returning from that city to his home, with another person, in a buggy, when, by the horses taking fright, or some other accident, they were thrown out. O'Rourke's collar-bone was broken, but it was thought that he was not otherwise hurt. However, he was undoubtedly injured internally, as he suddenly became worse, Friday, and died that evening. When the Rock Island road was being built through here, he operated a boarding car."

"Bernard O'Rourke a former old and respected citizen of St. Joseph, but now of Talmage, Nebraska, made a very pleasant call at the Tribune office Wednesday on his way home from the Indian Nation, where he has been engaged all spring in the construction of a railroad. Mr. O'Rourke built and ran the Everett house on South Seventh street many years ago and looks as fresh today as he did then."

Barney's wife was Mary Anne McDermott born in Ohio 1848 and died in El Paso in 1923. From her obituaries.

"MRS. MARY A. O'ROURKE DIES WHILE VISITING HER SONS. Mary A. O’Rourke, 74 years old mother of J. F. and H. J. O’Rourke of El Paso, died Saturday at 1411 East Nevada Street. Mrs. O’Rourke arrived in El Paso last Monday from her home in Herington, Kan., for a visit with her sons. Besides her sons here, she is survived by two daughters in Herington, Mrs. Frank Connolly and Miss Alice O’ Rourke; a son, B. J. O'Rourke, of Parsons. Kan., and a brother, P. J. McDermott of Liberal, Kansas. The body will be forwarded tonight to Harrington for burial by the J. J. Kaster & company."

"Mrs. Mary A. O'Rourke Dead. Mrs. O'Rourke is dead. This simple message, which passed from neighbor to neighbor and on through the town Saturday, brought a shade of sadness to the hearts of all who heard it, for this good woman who has lived among us for a number of years, had endeared herself to all by her simple kindnessm her consistent christian life, her charming personality and her cheeriness at all times. The children loved her, the young people enjoyed her the older friends trusted her and came for sympathy and understanding and her immediate family and friends adored her. Her passing leaves a place that cannot be filled, but her life among us leaves a pleasant memory of kindly service and unselfish devotion to family, friends and her religion, that is an inspiration to all and will linger long after she has gone. Mrs. O'Rourke left Herington about ten days ago to visit her brother at Liberal and two sons at El Paso, Texas, and was taken ill with pneumonia the second day of her visit there. Her daughter, Miss Alice went to her, arriving the day before her death and everything possible was done to save her for her family and friends but death claimed her on Saturday morning at eight forty-five. The body arrived in Herington Monday morning accompanied by her daughter and her two sons, H. J. and J. F. O'Rourke and their wives. The older son B. J. O'Rourke of Parsons and his son, Bernard, arrived Sunday afternoon, also Mrs. C. G. Stevenson of Pratt, Kansas, a niece. The brother, T. J. McDermott of Liberal. Kansas, was prevented from coming by sudden illness. Mrs. O'Rourke has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. F. P. Connolly for over five years and the funeral was from this home to St. John's Catholic church where a High Requiem mass was said with Father J. B. Glynn officiating. Prayers for the repose of her soul were offered by the ladies of the Altar society and the Knights of Columbus at the home Monday afternoon and evening. Interment was made at St. John's cemetery. Out of town relatives and friends were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. O'Rourke and Mr. and Mrs. H. J. O'Rourke of El Paso, Texas; B. J. and Bernard O'Rourk of Parsons, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Stevenson of Pratt, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cole of Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Jas. Gleason and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. McSteen of Kansas City, Missouri and Mrs. John Crowley of Pratt, Kansas. Mary Ann McDermott was born near Cleveland, Ohio, August 20th, 1848 and died at El Paso, Texas, January 27, 1923. She was married to Bernard O'Rourke at St. Joseph's cathedral, St. Joseph, Missouri, August 26, 1866. Nine children were born of this union, three of whom died in infancy and one son, Domino, died May 4, 1807, being killed while in railroad service. Mr. O'Rourke died at Talmage, Nebraska, August 26, 1896. The O'Rourke's lived at St. Joseph, Missouri, for many years coming west with the Rock Island Railroad as it built from that place. Mrs. O'Rourke leaves the following children: - B. J. of Parsons, Kansas; ,J. F. and H. J. of El Paso, Texas; Miss. Alice and Mrs. F. P. Connolly of Herington, besides a brother, T. J. McDermott of Liberal, Kansas, and twelve grand children." Transcribed by Mary Cummins.

I may later post the maternal second great grandparents. For now the paternal side of the family is from Ireland, Wales, Kentucky, Missouri and Kansas. The maternal side of the family is from Georgia, Massachusetts, Canada and Wisconsin. The family history matches up perfectly with what Beto O'Rourke has said about his family tree. I've done the family trees and histories of other candidates and Beto is the only one who has been honest about his family history. Beto is a third generation Texan from El Paso.

Beto's wife Amy Hoover Sanders comes from an amazing family. They lived in Mexico and Texas. My family is from El Paso, Texas which is on the Mexican border. That's how my grandpa met my Nana. It was normal to go back and forth frequently over the border. Below is Amy's tree only to great grandparents. Amy's family is highly educated, successful and wealthy. They've been in Texas and Mexico for generations. One was a well known Texas Judge. They are from Germany and the US. They're also involved in a lot of philanthropy.

Last week Ariana Grande said at an event "thanks for coming to my quinceanera!" People thought it meant that she's actually part Latino. She was just joking. She is 100% Italian on both sides going back to great grandparents. Here is her family tree to the best of my knowledge.

Her mother is Joan Marguerite Grande born 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. Her biological father is Edward Charles Butera born 1958. Her half brother is Frank James Marchioni born 1983. Frank's father is Victor Marchioni.

ANTHONY V. BUTERA, 74, of TOMS RIVER, died yesterday at home. He was a senior vice president of Municipal Bond Department at First Fidelity Bank, Newark, from 1950 to 1991 before retiring. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange. He was a founding member of Columbia High School Scholarship Fund and chairman of the Financial Committee 1992. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Maplewood Fire Department from 1949 to 1954. He was past president of the Bond Club of New Jersey. He was a 1951 graduate of Seton Hall University with a bachelor's degree. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Born in Morristown, he lived in Maplewood for 35 years before moving to Toms River eight years ago. Surviving are his wife, Florence Citrano Butera; two sons, Anthony J. and Edward C. Butera; a daughter, Maryellen Just; four grandchildren, Frankie Grande Marchione, Christina Leigh, Nicholas Charles and Ariana Grande Butera; two daughters-in-law, Lisa E. Ariana Grande's paternal great grandparents are Carlos "Charles" Antonio Butera born in New Jersey 1899-1984 and Marie "Mary" Passalaqua Butera born in Italy 1901-1958. Currently I don't know the parents of Florence Citrano. One census states she's an American citizen born abroad and orphaned. I'm not 100% on that info. I'll update when I'm more positive.

Ariana Grande's maternal great great grandparents are all born in Italy. Her paternal great great grandparents that I know of are all born in Italy. Ariana Grane is 100% Italian as far as I can tell.

Roseanne Barr's Jewish family in Salt Lake City, Utah - Mary Cummins

I'd read an article recently that stated Roseanne Barr said she was Jewish when they went to Temple but Mormon the rest of the week. She basically said she was a Jew in the closet. I did some research and that is not true. Salt Lake City, Utah has a large Jewish community starting in 1849. Her family was known in the community as more orthodox Jews.

Roseanne Cherrie Barr was born in Salt Lake City, Utah November 2, 1951. Her parents are Jerome "Jerry" Hershel Barr 1929-2001 and Helen Ruth Davis b. 1934. Her parents were married in 1951 at the Congregation Montefiore by Rabbi E Louis Cardon. Roseanne's siblings are Benjamin, Geraldine and Stephanie Barr.

Below is a photo of Roseanne's mother Helen Ruth Davis with her mother and her spouse's mother. This Jewish wedding was in the main local newspaper.

Roseanne has been married three times and has five children. Roseanne's first child was born out of wedlock and given up for adoption, Brandi Brown born 1971 in Colorado. Roseanne then wed William J Pentland whom she met while she was in Colorado. Together they had three children, Jessica L b. 1975, Jennifer Leigh b. 1976 and James "Jake" Michael Pentland b. 1978. Roseanne then married Tom Arnold. They had no children. Roseanne then married Benjamin Robert Thomas 1995. Together they had a son, Buck Thomas b. 1995 in Los Angeles, California.

Below is her father's obituary. His middle name is indeed "Hershel." The tombstone has the middle name "Harold" which is incorrect. Jerome as a Cpl in the Army and fought in the Korean war. I believe Roseanne was intentionally not included as she spread an allegedly false rumor that her mother and father raped her when they changed her diapers starting at age six months. Roseanne said she was raped until she was 17 and left home. She said her sister was also raped. The sister said there were no rapes. The family stated that Roseanne is "dead" to them now.

"Jerome Barr passed away on Monday April 9th in LDS Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He is already greatly missed.

Jerry had a heart attack shortly after winning the greatest jackpot of his life in Wendover, Nevada. He was lucky at the slots, but he had many other riches in his life. Most important to him was his loving wife of fifty years, Helen. He was a loving father to Stephanie, Geraldine, and Ben. He was extremely proud of his many grandchildren, and enjoyed the company of his friends.

Jerry was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1929 to Samuel and Francis Barr. The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1944 where he attended West High School and was a talented and proud member of their football team. He served his country in the United States Army. In 1950 Jerry met the love of his life, Helen. Five minutes later he told her, "I'm going to marry you." Their love story continued for more than fifty years. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy, and brother Larry.

Jerry will be remembered by many as a master storyteller. His sense of humor, love of life, and "winning personality" provided strength, guidance, and joy to his family and friends. He met life's struggles and challenges with the strength of a gladiator."

Roseanne's paternal grandparents were Samuel Borisofsky Barr. The original name was Borisofsky which he changed to Barr. He was born in Kiev, Ukraine 1903-1962. Below is his obituary.

"Samuel Barr, 58, 624 S 8th West, was dead of natural causes on arrival Sunday about 12:15 a.m. at a Salt Lake hospital. Born Aug. 16, 1903, Kiev, Russia, to Lazar and Bossie Saslavsky Borisofsky. Married Frances Bertha Katz, Dec. 26, 1926, St. Paul, Minnesota. Salesman, Member, Montefiore Synagogue. Owner, operator, Home Specialties Co. Former owner, Barr Specialties Co. Survivors, widow; sons, daughter, Larry Bernard, Hawaii; Jerome H., Mrs. Dorothy Lerner, both Salt Lake City; sisters, Mrs. Becky Liss, Mrs. Rose Dorris, both New Jersey; six grandchildren. Burial Montefiore Cemetery." The Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Roseanne's paternal grandmother was Frances "Fanny" Bertha Katz 1908-1986. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. After Samuel died she remarried Roy Eugene Hartman 1907-1994. No obituaries for either.

Roseanne's maternal grandfather was Benjamen Davis 1898 Hungary 1954. The original last name was Davidovitz. He was a butcher and worked in a grocery store. He later owned apartment buildings. Her maternal grandmother was Mary Betnum 1906 Lithuania 1982 Salt Lake City, Utah. Roseanne was closest with Mary Betnum Davis her Bobbe which is Yiddish for "grandmother." Mary's parents and other family members that stayed in Russia were most likely killed in a wave of antisemitism. All of Roseanne's family that died are buried in Montefiore Cemetery which is for the Jewish Montefiore Congregation. This Congregation is made up of orthodox Russian Jews.

The paternal great grandparents are Lazar Borisofsky and Bossie Saslavsky, and Joseph "Joe" Katz 1874-1952 and Sophia Schandra 1881-1940 all from Ukraine, Russia. There is only an obituary for Joseph Katz, below.

"Joseph Katz, 78, 1456 Edison St., died at a Salt Lake rest home Monday at 11: 35 p.m. of causes incident to age. He was born Sept. 4, 1874, in Russia, and came to the United States Jan. 15, 1905, where he followed the shoemaker's trade. His wife, Sophia Katz, whom he married in December, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minn., died several years ago. Mr. Katz is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Samuel Barr, Salt Lake City, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Paul Goldstien, Capetown, South Africa. Funeral services will be conducted by Rabbi E. Louis Cardon of Congregation Montefiore, assisted by Rev. Harry Sterling. Burial will be in Montefiore Cemetery."

Three of Roseanne's four grandparents came from Lithuania, Russia. The boundaries changed a lot in the last 100 years. All grandparents are descended from Russian Jews who fled antisemitic Russia. There was a large Jewish community in Salt Lake City, Utah. All their weddings were in the newspaper as Jewish weddings. All their obituaries include the names of Rabbis, Temples and the Jewish Montfiore cemetery. The grandparents all spoke Yiddish. Roseanne was not a Jew in the closet.
