Who is Michael Dwayne Vick professional football player? Family, ancestry, DNA, biography, parents, grandparents

I was curious about Michael Dwayne Vick's background so I did a quick Google search. No one has done an article about his family background. I decided to do some research which was very revealing. Michael Vick is not the only talented football player in his family. He has quite a few relatives who were very talented, went to college on football scholarships, graduate school, did very well then went on to become successful business men.

Before I begin forget the notion that the child takes the father's name. That rarely happens in this family. The children take the mothers' last names. This has happened in the last three of four generations of this family. I state this so people won't get confused or think that I've made a mistake. Follow along with the above family tree. Michael Dwayne Vick was born June 26, 1980 in Newport News, Virginia. His father is Michael Dwayne Boddie born 1961 in Newport News, Virginia. His mother is Brenda Jean Vick born 1963 in Newport News, Virginia.

Michael Dwayne Boddie married Brenda Jean Vick December 7, 1990. They divorced June 30, 2009. Michael Vick's siblings are Christina Vick, Courtney Vick and Marcus Deon Vick born 1984. His brother Marcus was arrested on drug and other charges along with their father Michael Boddie. The only photos I had for those two for the tree were their mugshots.

Michael Vick married Kijafa Frink in 2012. Together they have three children, London born 2004, Jada born 2007 and Michael Vick Jr born 2018. Michael Vick has another child named Mitez Vick born 2002 with Tameka Taylor.

Michael's paternal grandfather was James Edwin Boddie 1938-2019. I don't know if he ever married Michael's grandmother Ernestine Delores Buggs 1937-2014 or if she just used his name. She had at least one other husband who was Raymond Huston Henderson. Below is Ernestine's obituary.

"Reidsville – Ms. Ernestine Delores Buggs Henderson died Monday, October 20, 2014. Survivors are: daughters, Vanessa Boddie, Sharon Boddie and Leona Boddie; sons, Edwin Buggs, Lonnie Boddie, Michael Boddie and Kenneth Boddie; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; special friends, Willette Thompson, Angela Mc Clurklin and Benita Turner; other relatives and friends."

Together (?) they had maybe nine children, Kenneth, Leona, Lonnie, Sharon, Vannessa, Edwin Lesley Buggs Jr, James Thomas Boddie 1956-1999, Father John Derrick Boddie 1958-2009 and his father Michael Dwayne Boddie.

"James T. Boddie NEWPORT NEWS - James T. Boddie, 42, of Newport News, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at Hampton General Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Newport News on May 31, 1956, to James Boddie Sr. and Ernestine Buggs. Mr. Boddie attended schools in Newport News and in Baltimore. He served in the U.S. Army before returning to Newport News to become a welder and pipe fitter for the International Boiler Makers. As a welder, he worked for various contractors and subcontractors associated with Newport News Shipbuilding. Survivors include his daughter, Shenna Boddie of Baltimore; a son, Jamontral Boddie of Newport News; his dear friend and companion, Sharon Peade; his mother and father; three sisters, Vanessa, Sharon and Leona; and five brothers, Edwin, Lonnie, John, Michael and Kenneth. A funeral service will be held at Franklin Funeral Home, 2117 Madison Ave., Newport News, at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery."

"Reverend John Derrick Boddie, 50, the priest and beloved pastor of the Catholic Church of the Visitation in Middlesex County and the Catholic Church of Francis De Sales in Mathews County of the Diocese of Richmond, died from cancer. Father Boddie, the son of James Boddie and Ernestine Henderson, was born July 11, 1958 in Newport News as the third of nine children. He was raised by his grandmother, Esther Boddie, who introduced him to the Catholic religion by taking him to St. Alphonsus Church in Newport News, which later merged with St. Vincent De Paul. Upon his graduation from Peninsula Catholic High School in 1977, he attended Saint Meinrad College in Indiana. From there, he entered St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore in 1983. He was ordained on May 14, 1988 and initially assigned to Our Lady of Nazareth Parish in Roanoke as an Assistant Priest. From there he served at St. Paul’s in Richmond for two years as an Assistant Priest and subsequently was transferred to the Church of the Holy Spirit in Virginia Beach. After a sabbatical, in 1997 he became the pastor of the Catholic parishes in Middlesex and Mathews counties, where he has faithfully served the parishioners for almost 12 years. Stricken with cancer almost two years ago, he valiantly fought the disease while enrolled in an experimental program at Duke University until his untimely death just a few days after celebrating his 21st year as an ordained priest. He is survived by his parents; four sisters, Vanessa, Sharon, Leona and Anna Boddie; and three brothers, Michael, Kenneth, and Lonnie Boddie. One of his siblings, James Boddie, passed away several years ago. “Father John” was a brilliant homilist, often sought as a guest priest or speaker by other churches and denominations throughout the Middle Peninsula and Richmond communities. Beloved by all, he was widely known for his care and concern for the sick and homebound, visiting them frequently and enlightening their lives by his presence. He extended his ministry to the regional jail with success and gratitude. Because of his endearing personality and the respect he displayed for the Sacraments of Baptism and Marriage, Catholics from parishes apart from his, often requested he give those Sacraments to them."

Michael's mother Brenda Jean Vick graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia in 1963. She was not involved in any extracurricular activities or sports. Most of the family went to the same high school.

Brenda Vick's brother Joseph Vick Jr born 1952 was involved in the drug sales along with Michael Vick's father and brother. Brenda's other siblings were Clifton Earl Vick 1953-1953, Gwendolyn Delores Vick Gilmore 1954-2014, Joyce R Vick born 1956, Tina Leanne Vick born 1962 and Casey Cardell Vick born 1964.

A native of Newport News, she graduated from Ferguson High School in 1974 and received her associates degree from Thomas Nelson Community College. For many years she worked in the transportation department with the Newport News Public School system. Survivors include: her children, DeWayne Leonard Vick (Colette), Ramona Katina Vick, Calvin Gilmore (Sabrina). Two brothers, Joseph Vick Jr., and Casey Vick (Roberta) and three sisters, Joyce Crutchfield (Richard), Tina L. Vick and Brenda Vick. Mrs. Gilmore was blessed to have 9 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. M.E. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge."

Brenda's sister Tina L Vick is the Vice Mayor of District 3 in Virginia. Below is her official biography. She is Michael Vick's aunt.

Michael Vick's maternal grandparents were Joseph Vick 1929-1995 and Caletha Virginia Glast 1932-2008.

"NEWPORT NEWS - Our Heavenly father needed another angel so on May 2, 2008, He sent for our beloved mother, Caletha Virginia Vick. She was born on Jan. 10, 1932, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Ada Glast in Bethel, N.C. She was united in holy matrimony on Nov. 28, 1951, to the late Joseph Vick Sr. In 1953, she relocated to Newport News where she became a devoted housewife and mother. She accepted Christ at an early age and was never to busy to do what she could for others. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories four daughters, Gwendolyn D. Gilmore, Joyce R. Crutchfield, Tina L. Vick and Brenda J. Boddie; two sons, Joseph Vick Jr. and Casey C. Vick; one sister, Clara M. Bess; a brother, James L. Glast; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends."

Michael Vick's paternal great grandparents are Lonnie Boddie 1892-1940, Esther Hester 1895-1986 and Alvin Branch (?) and Ardelia Buggs 1920-2009.

Lonnie Boddie was a farmer who owned his own home and completed the fourth grade. He was born in North Carolina and died in Newport News, Virginia. He died from coronary occlusion and myocartitis, i.e. heart problems. Most of the family died from heart disease.

"Mrs. Esther Boddie NEWPORT NEWS Mrs. Esther Boddie, of 665 12th St., died Tuesday in her home. She was born in Nash County, N.C., and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Newport News. Survivors include three sons, John L. Boddie and Thomas Boddie, both of Newport News, and James Boddie of Baltimore, Md.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Nashville, N.C."

Ernestine Buggs said her father was Alvin Branch. I couldn't find any information on such a person. I believe her father is most likely Leslie Montgomery who is the father of her brother James Leslie Buggs.

Michael Vick's paternal great grandmother is Ardelia C Buggs 1920-2009. She was listed as a maid, shucker (oysters?) and a "helper" in directories. Below is her obituary.

A longtime resident of Newport News,Va., she was a professional baker, cook, domestic worker and babysitter. Viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. today, Nov. 6, 2009, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel,1601-27th St. NN, VA. 23607. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov.7, 2009, at St.Timothy Church of Christ (Holiness).Interment will follow at Pleasant Shade Cemetery." Transcription by Mary Cummins.

Ardelia Bugg's brother Aaron Lee Buggs is Michael's great uncle. He was a football legend. Below is his obituary.

"Aaron Lee Buggs NEWPORT NEWS On Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, Aaron Lee Buggs unexpectedly slipped away answering our Master's call to end his earthly journey. Aaron was born on Oct. 23, 1928, in Weldon, N.C., to the late Rev. Willie and Anna Buggs. He was the youngest of 10 siblings. Aaron was educated in the school system of Newport News, graduating from Huntington High School, where he excelled in athletics, especially football, and he played under the tutelage of the late coach Thad Madden. Because of his great athletic ability, he was able to continue his education at Virginia State University, where he graduated in 1949. He obtained his master's degree from Columbia University, New York. Aaron entered the military service, serving in the U.S. Army. He was Commissioned as an officer at Fort Knox, Ky. After his military service was completed, Aaron taught in the educational systems of Virginia and California. Aaron leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Eddie, Romian and Zealey; a daughter, Hope, all of California; two brothers, Eddie and Washington Buggs of Newport News; and two sisters, Ardelia Buggs of Newport News and Hester Jones of Hampton. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at St. Timothy Church of Christ Holinesss, USA, 1711 Madison Ave., Newport News. Burial will be in Pleasant Shade Cemetery."

Aaron Buggs was named the greatest athlete to finish Huntington High and was the top scorer on the "Viking eleven." He was also the co-Captain of the team. He gave the invocation for his high school graduating class of 1944. He did very well academically and went on to graduate school then became a teacher.

There are quite a few men in Vick's family who were extremely talented football players. They fortunately didn't get involved with the bad elements like Vick, Vick's father, brother, Vick's mother's brother...

Michael's maternal great grandparents are Sam Vick 1908-1989, Mary Louise Cotton 1907-2001, Samuel Glass/Glast 1894-1974 and Ada Jones Knight 1898-1957.

Sam Vick's obituary is below.

"Sam Vick HOBGOOD Sam Vick, 82, died Sunday, Nov 19, 1989. Born Nov. 14, 1907, he was son of the late Octavis and Coney Vick. Surviving: wife, Mary C. Vick; daughter, Hattie Andrews; sons, Joseph and John Henry Vick;, 16 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.mr at Mt Zion Primitive Baptist Church, Princeville. Burial will follow at Community Cemetery, Princeville. A wake service will be held Friday, 7 to 8 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Tarboro."

The second great grandparents you can see in the tree above. It gets a little complicated with multiple spouses due to death and divorce.

While I was researching the family I added their memorials to FindAGrave.com along with their transcribed obituaries to help others. I also linked the memorials so people can just click one link to download an entire family or line. I may eventually turn this tree into an online searchable data tree.

I will update this later after I confirm Michael Vick's 3rd, 4th and 5th grandparents back to slavery. Obviously I won't be able to go farther than that.

The first free person ancestor of the Vick family was Nelson Vick 1837-1923 North Carolina. He had two wives, Amanda Bresser b. 1858 and Viney Locust b. 1843. Slavery ended in this area in 1863. It became a national law 1865. Some slaves were freed earlier by agreement or during the economic crisis of 1819 in this area. At that time some plantation owners abandoned their farms along with their slaves and moved west. The only records I see for any "Vick" family prior to this time in this area are white people. It's possible this family took the last name of their slave owner or just chose their own name. The only census before this time is white people with white and black slaves. The Freeman's census didn't come until later when the government worked to incorporate slaves in the regular population with homes and regular jobs.

Michael Vick is one of the descendants of the Callis Walton family. They have huge reunions in Virginia. They made a booklet about their family ancestry. Just tried to find it online but no luck. I'd already researched the tree back to the original Callis and Walton families. Then I hit the brick wall of slavery.

Last week Ariana Grande said at an event "thanks for coming to my quinceanera!" People thought it meant that she's actually part Latino. She was just joking. She is 100% Italian on both sides going back to great grandparents. Here is her family tree to the best of my knowledge.

Her mother is Joan Marguerite Grande born 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. Her biological father is Edward Charles Butera born 1958. Her half brother is Frank James Marchioni born 1983. Frank's father is Victor Marchioni.

Ariana Grande's maternal grandparents are Frank Anthony Grande born in New York 1923-2014 and Marjorie Damico Grande born in New York 1925. Her maternal great grandparents are Antonio Grande born in Italy 1898-1967, Filomena "Phyllis" Lavenditti Grande born in Italy 1897-1984, John Viovanni Damico born in Italy 1880-1960 and Felomina "Minnie" Gigante Damico born in Italy 1890-1973. Below is the obituary for Filomena Gigante Damico.

"Ariana Grande's pateral grandparents are Anthony Vincent Charles Butera 1927-2001 and Florence Citrano Butera born 1933. Below is Anthony Butera's obituary.

ANTHONY V. BUTERA, 74, of TOMS RIVER, died yesterday at home. He was a senior vice president of Municipal Bond Department at First Fidelity Bank, Newark, from 1950 to 1991 before retiring. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange. He was a founding member of Columbia High School Scholarship Fund and chairman of the Financial Committee 1992. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Maplewood Fire Department from 1949 to 1954. He was past president of the Bond Club of New Jersey. He was a 1951 graduate of Seton Hall University with a bachelor's degree. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Born in Morristown, he lived in Maplewood for 35 years before moving to Toms River eight years ago. Surviving are his wife, Florence Citrano Butera; two sons, Anthony J. and Edward C. Butera; a daughter, Maryellen Just; four grandchildren, Frankie Grande Marchione, Christina Leigh, Nicholas Charles and Ariana Grande Butera; two daughters-in-law, Lisa E. Butera and Joan Grande Butera; and a son-in-law, Craig R. Just. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacob Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood. Ariana Grande's paternal great grandparents are Carlos "Charles" Antonio Butera born in New Jersey 1899-1984 and Marie "Mary" Passalaqua Butera born in Italy 1901-1958. Currently I don't know the parents of Florence Citrano. One census states she's an American citizen born abroad and orphaned. I'm not 100% on that info. I'll update when I'm more positive.

Ariana Grande's maternal great great grandparents are all born in Italy. Her paternal great great grandparents that I know of are all born in Italy. Ariana Grane is 100% Italian as far as I can tell.

March 16, 2017 Sheryl Gay Stolberg wrote an article for the NY Times entitled "'I Am an American
Because of Him’: The Journey of Pence’s Grandfather From Ireland." The article which was published on St. Patrick's Day explored Pence's Irish immigrant family history. His grandfather Richard Michael Cawley who came from a poor Irish family fled guerrilla warfare in Ireland for the opportunities and freedom in America.

Pence has always spoken glowingly and proudly of his Irish heritage and grandfather who struggled to come to America and succeeded. At the same time while Governor of Indiana Mike Pence tried to bar Syrian refugees from his state. As Vice President Pence continues to try to bar refugees fleeing oppressive and war torn countries from coming to America. Stolberg's article really showed the hypocrisy that is Mike Pence.

After reading the article I decided to do a little more digging into Mike Pence's family tree. How "American" and/or "Irish" is he? As you can see from the image above many members of his family were born in Ireland. Most though not all of those immigrated to the US. Mike Pence is only second generation American.

I previously wrote an article about Donald Trump's lineage. Trump is also only second generation American. I also have Irish ancestry. My Irish Cummins family came here in the 1600's landing in Virginia. My English Cobb family also landed here in the 1600's in Virginia. Pence and Trump both have major issues with immigrants and refugees yet their own ancestors more recently fled their countries during war time. You'd think they'd both have some compassion for these refugees especially when you consider that American actions partially caused the wars in those regions.

Trump's family history is even worse. Trump's grandfather Friederich Trump 1869-1918 fled Germany to avoid service in the war. When he tried to return to Germany he was denied for that reason. Trump then returned to the US. This means Friederich Trump was less than honest on his application for entrance and naturalization papers. This is probably why Trump had no problem stating he had bone spurs in order to dodge the draft.

Pence's family helped other Irish family members come to America. Pence and Trump both love immigration when it's their own family. They just don't want any other immigrants to come to the US. They both give the excuse of fear of "radical Islamic terrorism" but that's not their real issue. None of the 9/11 terrorists came from any of the travel ban countries. Pence and Trump only want European looking immigrants like themselves. They are racists against people of color and Muslims. This makes me embarrassed to be an American today when our leaders are such morally bereft people.

Texas GOP hysterics about "illegals" and alleged "border crime" in McAllen, Hidalgo, Texas - Cassandra Luevano, Homero Guzman

February 18, 2017, 80 year old Homero Guzman was allegedly robbed of his wallet at gun point while entering a Church's Chicken in McAllen, Hidalgo, Texas. Police arrived minutes later and took the report from Guzman.

Cassandra aka Cassie knew she had to take immediate action to "save" her grandfather. She did what any sane loving granddaughter would do and started frantically tweeting to President Trump, Governor Abbott and ICE.

She tweeted that her grandfather was the victim of a "border crime" by an "illegal" who wanted his "ID." She tweeted (sic),

After Cassie tweeted to one of her followers Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Abbott finally responded two hours later.

Just fyi that Church's Chicken is eight miles north of Mexican border where the victim was born in Reynosa. Cassie here lives in McAllen which is only eight miles north of Church's Chicken. This did not happen right at the border.

After all this tweeting Valley Central news did an article about the robbery. From the article which is linked below,

"Philip Ethridge, an associate professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley who studies crime and border security, said he doubted the robbery had any nexus to border security.

"If this had happened in any other city — I hate to say this — it would have been just a routine crime that police take reports on every day," Ethridge said, adding that not every crime near the border is actually a matter of border security.

State Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, said the tweet reflects the thinking behind Texas' border security push.

The Texas Department of Public Safety wants millions for border security, but can't produce a coherent plan or justify the millions already spent, Canales said. Data released by the Department of Public Safety shows few drug busts but many traffic citations."

"I can say this about the governor: He's the first governor that's actually paid attention to the Rio Grande Valley," Canales said. "He's made more visits. He seems to be truly concerned about the Rio Grande Valley."

However, a robbery at Church's Chicken in McAllen isn't a border security problem, Canales said.
"I would go out on a limb and say somebody was held up at gunpoint in Houston last night," Canales said. "Is he coming to Houston's rescue?"

Crime data reported to the FBI shows the stark difference between McAllen and Houston.
From January to June 2016, McAllen had 31 robberies — 22 per 100,000 people, according to FBI Uniform Crime Report data. Houston had 209 robberies per 100,000 people.

For some Republicans, the border is just a pawn in a larger game, Canales said, adding that hyping border security is big business.

"And in order to do that, you have to make people believe that this place is something it's not," Canales said." Dave Hendricks

But there is much more to the story. You see Cassie's entire family is Mexican including her grandfather. Homero Guzman. Homero was born in April 21, 1936 in Reynosa, Mexico. As far as I can tell I see no naturalization papers. I requested that information from Cassandra but she did not reply. Below is Cassandra's family tree.

Cassandra's grandparents on her mother's side appear to be born in Mexico. I don't see naturalization papers for them. All of her great grandparents were born in Mexico. Only a couple may have become "legal immigrants," aka documented, naturalized immigrants.

Her great grandmother Maria De La Paz Romero Salazar was born in Mexico but died in Texas. She was a Mexican citizen without papers. In Cassie's eyes that makes her an "illegal" which makes her a very bad mujer, a criminal, someone to be detested and tweeted about in disgust, someone to tweet, report to ICE about, someone to be ripped out of their home at night, shackled, thrown in a dog kennel with no food, water, lawyer and deported to Mexico without any money, ID, phone, possessions?

Below is Cassie who is 100% Mexican who thinks all other Mexicans on the other side of the border eight miles away in this case just across a bridge are "illegal," "criminals," "refugees," which we should all revile. In this case her grandpa is from Reynosa, Mexico right on the border. If it turns out he doesn't have papers, shouldn't she turn him in to ICE if she really feels "illegals" are bad hombres? The hypocrisy in this young woman being used for political purposes is just too much.
