Who is Robert Frederick Smith from Denver, Colorado billionaire, philanthropist? Family tree, ancestry, heritage, DNA by Mary Cummins

Robert Frederick Smith, billionaire, Denver, Colorado, ancestry, heritage, family tree, DNA, sylvia young, william robert smith, bernice jewell henricy, frederick combe young, Allan Smith, Hope Dworaczyk, Hendrix Smith, Legend Smith, Suzanne McFayden, Sliana Smith, Maximos Smith, Zoe Smith, mother, father, siblings, wife, wives, children, kids, cornell university, morehouse college, vista equity partners, goldman sachs, fund,
Robert Frederick Smith was born December 1, 1962 in Denver Colorado. His parents are Dr. William "Billy" Robert Smith b. 1932 (deceased) and Dr Sylvia Myrna Young Smith b. 1935. He has a brother Allan M. Smith b. 1961. His parents married in 1960.

Robert Frederick Smith attended Carson elementary school in Denver, Colorado then East High School in Denver, Colorado graduating in 1981. Below are pics from 1979 and 1981 respectively.

His family lived at 3401 E. 26th St, Denver, Colorado across the street from the golf course. Below is the home.

He graduated from Cornell in 1985 and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. He graduated from Columbia Business School in 1994. From 1994 to 2000 he worked with Goldman Sachs in technology investment banking first in New York then in Silicon Valley. In 2000 he founded Vista Equity Partners a private equity and venture capital firm. As of 2019 he had over $46 billion in capital commitments. What Robert Smith is most famous for is announcing that he will pay off all the student debt of the 2019 Morehouse College graduating class of 396 students.

Dr. William "Bill" Robert Smith was born in Denver, Colorado along with his twin Betty on May 24, 1932. William was one of eight children born to William Edward Smith and Elizabeth  North Smith. His siblings were Betty Joe (Annias) Reeves, Bonny (Bruno) Carr, Bayonne (Edward) Holmes, Bethanath "Beth" (James) Vaden, Wayne Edward Smith, Brenda (Harold) Strawder and Bonita (William) Vaden. William was a 1st Lt in the US Army in Korea in 1954. William received a BA in 1954, an MA in 1959 and a PhD in 1972 in teaching all from Denver University. He received a music scholarship for the band. William was a teacher at Harry M Barrett Elementary School in 1966. In 1967 he was assistant principal of the school. By 1970 he was the principal. William married Dr. Sylvia Myrna Young in 1960 who was also a teacher and a school principal. Together they had two children, Allan M Smith and Robert Frederick Smith. At the time of his death he was predeceased by his parents and brother Wayne Smith. He was survived by the rest of his siblings, grandchildren and many other relatives. William died on July 5, 1988 and was interred July 11, 1988 with a military funeral at Fort Logan National Cemetery. By Mary Cummins.

Robert's mother Dr Sylvia Myrna Young Smith was the Principal of George Washington High School. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School in Washington, D.C. class of 1952. This was her thesis at the University of Northern Colorado. Knight Fundamental Academy, 1982-1985 : a case study in basic education, Smith, Sylvia Myrna Young Thesis (Ed. D.)--University of Northern Colorado, Dept. of Educational Administration, summer quarter, 1987.

Smith stated his family has four generations in Denver, Colorado. That is clearly only his paternal side.  He said his family has been in the US for eight generations. Clearly he has done his tree. Eight generations makes sense going back to end of slavery. His paternal grandfather William Edward Smith completed two years of college. He's listed as a chauffeur in 1940. His paternal grandmother is Elizabeth North who completed four years of college at the University of Denver. In 1940 she's listed as a maid.

I have found info on his maternal grandparents. Sylvia Myrna Young Smith's father was Frederick Combe Young 1915 Washington, D.C. - 2010 College Park, Maryland. Below is his obituary.

"YOUNG FREDERICK C. YOUNG Departed this life on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Sylvia M. Smith, Linda Wilson and Eileen Young-Ross; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Lucy Young; and a host of other relatives and friends. Wake will be held Saturday, September 18, 10:30 a.m. Mass will follow at 12 noon at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. 2021 Rhode Island Ave. NE. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date." He registered for the draft in 1940. He was a 2 Lt US Army. In 1940 he was a porter at a Department Store in Washington, D.C. He attended the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Sylvia Young's mother was Bernice Jewell Henricy 1918 South Carolina - 1982 Washington, D.C. She is buried with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.

Sylvia's siblings are/were Frederick Lauren Young 1936 - 1945, Linda Young b. 1950 married to Jacob Parker Bethea and later David Wilson, and Eileen Veronica Young married to Michael Ross.

Below is Robert Frederick Smith's family tree which I have completed so far. It's clearly lacking a lot. Having such a common name makes it difficult. UPDATE: I actually figured out his father the day I wrote the article. I was thrown because he said his family is four generations in Denver. Grandpa was born in Kansas so I thought I had the wrong guy. Gradpa did live in Denver.

Below is obituary of Robert Smith's Aunt Brenda Carrie Ann Smith Strawder who died in 2002.

"SMITH-STRAWDER, BRENDA Brenda Carrie Ann Smith-Strawder. Born to the late William Edward and Elizabeth North Smith on February 27, 1942 in Denver, Colorado, passed away September 26, 2002. Brenda is survived by her loving husband Harold Strawder; sons Anthony (Rose) Morrison, Richard (Kym) Ramsey; daughter Angela (Kevin) Batiste; grandchildren Angel Flowers, Tamara, Anthony Jr., and Christian Morrison, Morgan, Madison, and Mackenzie Ramsey; sisters Betty Reeves, Bonnye Carr, Bayonne Holmes, Beth Vaden, Bonita Vaden, and the late Dr. William R. Smith and Wayne E. Smith; a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Private ceremony held for the family, October 1, 2002. Family at 19885 East 59th Drive, Aurora Colorado 80019."

An article about Robert Smith's Aunt Bayonne Smith Holmes.

Bayonne Holmes was DU’s first black cheerleader

https://magazine.du.edu/alumni/bayonne-holmes-was-dus-first-black-cheerleader/

“By working with students, I think we can make a difference,” says Bayonne Holmes. Photo courtesy of Bayonne Holmes

When Bayonne (Smith) Holmes began her college search in the mid 1950s, she hoped to leave Denver to attend a historically black college. Her mother had encouraged Holmes and her seven siblings to get an education, but Holmes couldn’t afford to leave Denver.

So, Holmes attended DU like her mother, Elizabeth (North) Smith (attd. 1937 and 1955–58) and brother William Smith (BA ’54, MA ’59, PhD ’72). By the time Holmes completed her education, another brother, Wayne Smith (BME ’64), also had graduated from DU.

After graduation, Holmes—BA sociology ’58, MA education ’68—taught elementary students in Denver public schools. She went on to develop and implement a high-school level black studies curriculum in Berkeley, Calif. Holmes also mentored students, giving those who otherwise wouldn’t go to college a “head start” toward college preparation.

Having several family members attend DU partly explains why the University is still so important to Holmes. For the past eight years, she chaired the African-American Alumni Association.

Holmes remembers when she was the only black student in all of her classes.

“There wasn’t any diversity,” she recalls. “You could count maybe 10 [black] undergraduates in a period of four years.”

Holmes says white students weren’t openly hostile, but generally ignored her. She didn’t let it bother her. Instead, Holmes says she became DU’s first black cheerleader, which helped her make friends.

Still, Holmes wants better for today’s students and is willing to volunteer her time and energy to that end.
“By working with students, I think we can make a difference,” Holmes says, noting that black faculty and alumni get to know incoming students and help them throughout their time at DU."

I used to spend the summers in Denver starting around 1973. I didn't see very many black people at all. At that time Denver was a ski resort and a place to listen to John Denver songs. It would have been tough to be black back then. This was after the Civil Rights Act but it still took time to be a little more fair. Took a lot of guts for her to be a cheerleader in an almost all white school.

Robert Frederick Smith has been married twice and has five children. His first wife is Suzanne McFayden b. 1965 in Kingston, Jamaica. She is an exotic beauty whom he met while they were both at Cornell University. Her father was Vincent Bancroft McFayden 1922 Kingston, Jamaica - 2005. Below is his obituary.

"MCFAYDEN, VINCENT BANCROFT, 83, of Hernando, died Saturday (April 29, 2005) under the care of family and hospice. He came here five years ago from his native Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. He was retired after 15 years of service as liaison officer for Appliance Traders, Ltd., and a member of Hernando United Methodist Church and Jamaica Constabulary Force. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dolores; two sons, Anthony, Jamaica, and Robert, Orlando; four daughters, Suzanne McFayden-Smith, Mill Valley, Calif., Joan Blair, Hernando, Beverley Francis Herndon, Va., and Dian Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Keith, Ocala; three sisters, Joyce Magnus, Jamaica, Phylis McFayden, Ocala, and Yvonne Ashley, Ocala; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren."

Suzanne McFayden's mother is Dolores Victorine Webster. She married Vincent McFayden in 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica. Together they had the above children. Suzanne had the following children with Robert Smith, Zoe Suzanne Smith b. 1997, Maximos Robert Smith and Eliana Frederick Smith. Zoe is an entertainer. The other two children are in college. They were married from 1988 to 2010. Below is Suzanne's tree.

Robert Smith's second wife is Hope Christina Dworazcyk b. 1984 in Port Lavaca, Texas. Robert is three years older than Hope's father. Her parents are Frederick Shawn Dwoaczyk and Tina Marie Tristan. Robert Smith and Hope Dworazcyk have two children, Hendrix Robert Smith and Legend Robert Smith. Below is their public wedding photo. To Robert's left are his two daughters. To his right is his son from his first wife.

Video from a local NBC New report Wednesday showed flames at the 21st Century Fox mogul’s home. Later Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported that the fire had grown near Murdoch’s estate, but had not burned the property’s buildings or vineyard.

Murdoch’s property at 1050 Moraga Ave. was bought in August 2013 for $28.8 million from former Northrop Corp. CEO Tom Jones. Part of the property was once a horse ranch owned by Victor Fleming. The estate is nearly 16 acres acres with 13 acres of grapevines. The main residence is 7,724 square foot and the property includes a two bedroom guest house and a 4,400 square-foot office building.

robert mercer, robert leroy mercer, diane mercer,

More to come! This is part one of a three part series which gets more detailed and involved as it proceeds. Just setting the scene to get into the financial, political aspect of Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah.

UPDATE: 02/23/2019 Robert Mercer funds and assets found in the Paradise Papers.

03/27/2018 More and more of Mercer's involvement in Trump Russia and Cambridge Analytica.

"Do you think Mr Mercer should be investigated for intimidation? Wylie: Absolutely. They use Black Cube. See Channel4 video that can’t be aired."

03/18/2018 Mercer was the money behind Cambridge Analytica and BreitBart. CA influenced Brexit and the 2016 US elections.

UPDATE: 11/05/2017 Mercer owes $7 billion in back taxes. Many believe that may be why he got involved in politics. He wants the huge GOP tax reduction plan to pass.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/article147454324.html

UPDATE: 11/02/2017 Mercer steps down as CEO of his hedge fund. He's selling his interest in Breitbart to his daughter. He's distancing himself from Steve Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos. He has finally realized that his money which helped make Trump president has totally backfired. He realizes Team Trump is going down in flames and he doesn't want to get taken down as well.

UPDATE: 02/24/2017 Seems the Mercer family owns part of Breitbart the "conservative" right wing media site.

Who is Robert Leroy Mercer the number one donor to 2016 conservative, Republican, GOP campaigns, candidates such as Ted Cruz and Donald Trump? Who is Robert Mercer who along with his daughter Rebekah Mercer advised Trump to add Steve Bannon to Trump's team?

Robert Mercer, Robert Leroy Mercer was born July 11, 1946 in Santa Clara, California. His Canadian born father was Dr Thomas Turner Mercer (12/30/1920 - 04/11/1993). His mother was Virginia Mae Kidd (1921-1993). Robert's siblings are Sally Anne Mercer (1952) and Randall Wayne Mercer (1949).

Robert Mercer grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1964. He won math honors for his school. He went on to get a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque in 1968. He then got a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1972. He ended up working at IBM doing speech recognition in the company's Watson Research Center in the New York suburb of Yorktown Heights. During his 20 years at IBM, he did pioneering work on language using statistics, both getting computers to translate speech to text and translating between languages. In 1993 he went to work at Renaissance. Renaissance looks for unusual market patterns and then writes computer codes to trade on them. In 2010 he became the co-CEO of Renaissance. By then he was making over $100 million per year. He's into model trains and playing poker.

Someone asked for some family tree info which caused me to have to expand the tree. Here is the updated tree. I went back two more generations. Mercer's family is from England, Ireland and came to the US via Canada. So far they appear pure white Christian.

Just read this great article on what makes the Mercers tick, how they were able to get Trump elected. I was being contacted by a research group in the south who were anti-Cruz, pro-Trump. They were trying to push anti-Cruz, pro-Trump pieces to me. They were false so I said no. This article explains how Steve Bannon, Kellyanne, the Mercers, Trumps, Breitbart and lots of money got Trump elected. Seems I'm not the only one who thinks the Mercers are right wing kooks. Robert Mercer believes all those conspiracy theories about Clinton being a murderer. He invested in a kooky scientist's fringe urine research. Rebekah is a main person in Trump's inner circle. Rebekah has been making the cabinet choices.

This is a key exchange from someone who worked with Mercer for 20 years. This is Mercer's plan.

"He said that Mercer wanted to shrink the government to the size of a pinhead and that he doesn't think that - he basically has a philosophy, according to Magerman, that values people on the basis of what they earn. He doesn't think human beings have intrinsic value. He thinks that if you are a schoolteacher and you earn 2 million times less than Mercer earns, then you're 2 million times less valuable than Mercer is. And he believes that if you are on welfare, you have negative value. And what Magerman said was, and he's not talking about economically. He means as a human being."

Dr Dre's home at 9161 Oriole for sale at $35,000,000 - Mary Cummins, real estate appraiser, Los Angeles, Animal Advocates

Dr Dre, Andre Romelle Young, Beats, Apple, 9161 Oriole, mansion, for sale, $35,000,000, billionaire

Dr Dre's home located in "Bird Land" is on the market for $35,000,000. Dr Dre (real name Andre Romelle Young) recently dropped $40 million on the four-acre Brentwood estate of supermodel and actress Gisele Bundchen and her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The rapper closed on that compound two days after Apple Inc. officially announced it had acquired Beats, the company he co-founded with Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine, for $3 billion.

In addition to co-founding Beats, Dr. Dre, 49, is the founder and chief executive of Aftermath Entertainment.
The Grammy winner and record producer bought the property in 2011 for $15.4 million. He has worked with Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent, among others.

The contemporary estate he just listed has 9,696 square feet of living space and includes a library/media room, a den, a wine cellar, six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. There's a guesthouse and a swimming pool on the three-quarter-acre lot, which has 300-degree views of the city, mountains and ocean. 9161 Oriole built in 1951 on the bird streets of West Hollywood Hills is located on a .71 acres. It sold back in 2011 for $15,400,000 and has been extensively remodeled and upgraded.

Dr. Gary Michelson of Found Animals Foundation, the story teller

In the age of the Internet with facts and evidence available with one Internet search you would think people would not lie so boldly. Not so it seems. Dr. Gary Michelson said he thought up microchips all by himself. No, he didn't. The microchips were the idea of Dave Loftus who was the Director of the Foundation. Below is Dr. Gary Michelson's story. FTR neither of them invented chips.

http://www.foundanimals.org/blog/tragedy-to-triumph-how-found-animals-was-founded/?utm_medium=Email&utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_campaign=FA_Newsletter_8_28_13

I worked for the Foundation during this time. I did not sign a confidentiality agreement. There is no gag order. Dr. Gary Michelson has a long history of telling stories. This is but one.

"A lifelong animal lover, Dr. Michelson had watched in horror as images of displaced pets flashed across the television screen. The initial tragedy of Katrina had been terrible enough; how could the aftermath be so grueling? Although animal welfare agencies labored tirelessly to help affected pets, the infrastructure for large-scale pet identification and return simply did not exist.
However, Dr. Michelson knew of a technology that could help: microchips. Michelson consulted with his local animal control agency, and found that the Los Angeles County shelter system did not currently offer microchipping! So, he created created a non-profit called Found Animals Foundation and began donating microchips to the County shelters and the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA)."
Dr. Gary Michelson says he started the Foundation because of Katrina. That's not quite true. The corporation was formed December 2005. December 18, 2005 I believe there was a meeting at Kathleen Riordan's house. I have a DVD of the meeting. Dr. Gary Michelson and Dave Loftus of the Found Animals Foundation showed up. Dr. Gary Michelson talked about spay neuter. He didn't mention chips. He didn't mention Katrina. Katrina hit August 25, 2005. The true devastation wasn't noted until days later or longer. Dr. Gary Michelson's first donations as per his tax return was buying two tickets to Sherry Hackett's comedy event. That's not even a donation. He got something in return.
In fact if you read other articles this is the first time Dr. Gary Michelson mentions Katrina. He originally said he started this foundation for animals and another for back conditions because of his love of animals and his grandmother who had back problems.
I'm sure everyone knows this. Dr. Gary Michelson read the Newsweek article that supposedly Ed Boks, Edward Boks wrote. I personally believe Scully ghost wrote that article because he was going to ghost write another article for Ed Boks but Ed didn't have $2,500. Ed asked me for $2,500 to pay Scully and I said no. That article made it seem like Ed Boks had made shelters nokill when he didn't. Euthanasia actually went up his first year at each shelter, i.e. Arizona, New York, Los Angeles. His later years he'd get ahold of the books and fudge the numbers, refuse animals, let them die from disease... There are many articles about this.
Because of the article Dr. Gary Michelson wanted him to run Los Angeles Animal Services. He automatically believed the bullshit without doing any research. He contacted the Mayor and offered him money to hire Ed Boks. The Mayor agreed to hire Ed Boks. Anyway the meeting was to introduce Ed Boks who would be the new GM officially January 3, 2006. Here's a background story about this relationship. Also note that Dr. Gary Michelson was sued for defamation and had to settle. He most certainly defamed Dave Loftus. Dr. Gary Michelson didn't just defame him at dinner parties either. Dr. Gary Michelson called up Dave Loftus' business partners and defamed him directly hurting his business.
More from Dr.Gary Michelson's story,
"At that point, the foundation consisted of Dr. Michelson sitting at his kitchen table, writing checks for chips. Found Animals’ donated microchips made free pet ID available to all pets in the LA area, forwarding the foundation’s overall goal to reduce unnecessary shelter deaths. The logic was simple: get lost pets out of the shelters and back with their families, and they won’t be put down for lack of space."
At the time it wasn't just Dr. Gary Michelson. It was Dr. Gary Michelson, Dave Loftus, Mary Herro and me sitting at his kitchen table. Dr. Gary Michelson totally forgets about Dave Loftus. Chips were his idea. He bought the chips and sold them to the Foundation. Dr. Gary Michelson agreed to this. He bought chips from Dave Loftus and his pet kiosk company. Then Dr. Gary Michelson got cold feet because people said chips and kiosks are not a cost effective way to save animals' lives. He wanted his money back. Dave Loftus said no of course because they had an agreement.
Dr. Gary Michelson then starts defaming Dave Loftus making up horrible lies such as he's wanted by the police, he embezzled money, he stole money.... I worked for Dr. Gary Michelson at the time and believed what he said. I stupidly would tell Dr. Gary Michelson where Dave would be so the police could arrest him . Dr. Gary Michelson also defamed me. I was going to sue him and use the same attorney Dave Loftus did but that attorney said Dr. Gary Michelson and his lawyers are ruthless. He didn't want to go through that experience again even though they got a good settlement.
The police were never going to arrest Dave because he didn't do anything illegal or wrong. Dr. Gary Michelson just got cold feet and wanted to unwind the deal. Dr. Gary Michelson begged Ed Boks to order the police to arrest Dave. LAPD told the Mayor there was no crime. They can't arrest him. LAPD said that Dr. Gary Michelson is mentally ill, crazy. I have all of those emails from the Mayor's office and Ed Boks.
Back to Dr. Gary Michelson's story. Dr. Gary Michelson asked the owner of Chameleon, PetHarbor if microchips or pet kiosks work. He said no because people don't register the chips, don't keep the information current, there are many types of chips and scanners, not all shelters scan for chips... He also said the kiosks don't work and they sold the kiosks. Dr. Gary Michelson felt really stupid for buying chips and kiosks. More from his article,
"Easy fix, right?
Surprisingly, no.
Despite millions of dollars in donated ID, shelter pets were still dying by the thousands. Most baffling, local shelters saw no significant change in return-to-owner rates! Free microchips alone were obviously not doing the job."
He finally admits that he failed with the chips. Back to his statement.
"so in 2008, Dr. Michelson recruited former BCG consultant and Stanford MBA Aimee Gilbreath, and they started to dig into the microchip system failure. The team uncovered some pretty scary facts:"
First off, after Dave Loftus and Dr. Gary Michelson parted ways Dr. Gary Michelson had an idea. He wanted to hire someone WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ANIMAL EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER. He wanted someone with a business or financial degree. He thought a numbers, money person could solve this problem. He thought people who loved animals were blinded which is odd coming from someone who says he loves animals. Obviously hiring Aimee Gilbreath was not the best idea. She has made some whopper mistakes because she has no animal experience. She's had to waste time learning through trial and error while animals died and money was wasted. Back to his statement.
"1)      Although microchips must be registered to work, most pet owners never register their microchips! This means that shelters and vets who find a chip have no way to contact the pet’s family.
2)      Since most microchip companies charge fees to register and/or update information, many records become outdated when pet owners can’t pay.
3)      Some microchip companies sell nonstandard microchips and non-universal scanners that can’t read all types of chips … so even when a chip is registered and updated, there’s no guarantee it will be picked up by the shelter or vet.
Clearly, the microchip system was not living up to its potential. Dr. Michelson was forced to ask himself the same question millions of pet owners pose each day: is microchipping pets really worth it?
The foundation was quickly expanding to include other lifesaving programs: pet adoption promotions for area shelters, leadership support for high volume spay and neuter providers, and the Michelson Prize and Grants, a prize philanthropy grant program promising $75 million in award and research funding to develop a safe, nonsurgical sterilant for cats and dogs. So, pouring money into a broken microchip system wasn’t helping anyone.
If we really wanted microchips to work, we would need to take matters into our own paws.
That’s when Found Animals began designing a registry that would allow all U.S. pet owners to maintainfree, lifetime registrations for their microchipped pets, and automate communications for shelters. Our microchip donations expanded to include AngelDogs Foundation, Spay4LA, and SNP-LA, and the Santa Fe Humane Society, and those organizations provided valuable feedback as our registry blossomed. After testing the system with our partners, in March of 2012, we launched the Found Animals Microchip Registry nationwide, and began traveling around the country educating shelters and vets on registration and the importance of microchip and scanner standards."
ALL of us knew this in the year 2000. We spoke about these issues at commission meetings. Check the minutes. Dr. Gary Michelson come lately here also knew this in February 2006. It's seven years later. While I'm happy he made the national registry, I don't know if it's working. I have no idea if people are using it. He would need all the chip companies to give him the data from all their chips and they won't do that. They sell that data to advertisers. I bet Dr. Gary Michelson will use that data to sell to advertisers. He talked about doing that in 2006. He wanted the data that would be inputted from the chips. City, County said they couldn't give him that data. Looks like he's getting that data now.
Here's yet another problem with microchips. All animals adopted from shelters are now chipped. Even when a stray animal is found, it has a chip, data is current, we call the owner, they say they don't want the animal. They even lie and say they're not the owner. If they were, they'd have to pay to dump their animal.
If someone really cared about their animal they'd have a chip and collar with tags. A collar and tags is the best way to reunite wanted pets with their owners. A microchip will not automatically make people responsible. I volunteered at the shelter and saw animals with chips being put down because owner said he didn't want the animal. I'd see owners bring in their own animal with a chip and dump them. Chips can't save animals. Only humans can save animals.
