Mayor Eric Garcetti proposed mandatory retrofitting of pre-1980 soft story and non-ductile concrete buildings. He also proposed retroffiting of our water and communication systems in case of earthquake. Read more here.

Soft story buildings were built 1960 to 1980. The first floor is open, garages, carports or with large windows. Most seismic energy will be at the first floor level. That causes the first floor of these structures to collapse with the top floors pancaking down on top. One good example of this was the Medows apartments in the valley which collapsed killing many people on the first level.

Non-ductible concrete buildings are solid cement structures which are not built to sway with seismic activity. This causes the seismic activity to rip the building apart. One good example of this was the Kaiser hospital which had major walls collapse in the 1994 earthquake.

Mary Cummins receives award from City and Mayor of Beverly Hills. Real estate appraiser, Animal Advocates

Mary Cummins of Cummins Real Estate Appraisals receives an award from the City of Beverly Hills, California. Mary Cummins received this award May 28, 1981 at the Eighth Annual Recognition Breakfast for Youth in the Community Service. The award is from Donna Ellman-Garber then Mayor of the City of Beverly Hills and Charles Bolla the President of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association. I did so much volunteer and other work in high school that I don't remember which program this was from.
