CoCreate Los Angeles September 9, 2026 at Los Angeles Convention Center by Mary Cummins

Today September 9, 2026 was the first day of CoCreate Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Convention Center. If you're going just for samples, don't bother. There were none. I got a free general ticket then a free Premium upgrade. I was promised a free goodie bag. All I got was an empty bag and I got there super early :-( None of the vendors were really giving out any samples except one tiny bite of food and even that was rare. I think they said there would be lots of free samples just to pack the venue. That's also why they gave away tickets for free right before the event. I saw influencers begging for free product to promote and being denied. The samples on the floor are just to look at. Many don't speak English. They don't speak Spanish either. I had to translate at the food truck vendor booth until I finally ran away ;-)

There were a lot of exhibitors and suppliers from a range of industries such as electronics, automotive, construction, robotics, jewelry, clothing (Muse Select Topia), household goods, motorcycles and etail services. There is one main stage with the main speakers such as the President of Alibaba Kuo Zhang and Earvin Magic Johnson. They both gave great speeches and presentations. They basically said the future is using AI to run your entire business. Alibaba uses AI to help people buy, sell, get estimates, find factories, shipping... There are other smaller speaking venues around the South Hall event area.

Magic Johnson Spoke at CoCreate Los Angeles September 9, 2026 by Mary Cummins

Magic started out wanting to serve the black and Latino community in Los Angeles. He asked them what they wanted. They wanted entertainment in their areas. He built Magic Johnson theaters. The one in DTLA had the highest gross in the nation. AMC bought him out for a profit. He then wanted Starbucks in the inner city. He built 125 Starbucks. He said you must know your customer and over deliver. He changed the Starbucks desserts to meet the needs of his customers. He sold sweet potato pie and peach cobblers instead of scones. He ended up selling his Starbucks back to Starbucks for a profit. Then he got into sports franchises by buying into the Dodgers. He bought into the Sparks, LASC soccer, Lakers. Values have been growing like crazy in sports. Look at the latest Lakers sale. He hired the right people, people who are smarter than him. He said the future today is investing in tech and AI to help your business grow. Use Accio. Listen to the young, be open to change, protect your brand. The Problems with Leimert Park and Racism

This is a big part of the problem in Leimert Park. There is a lot of racism against others and not just Latinos. I was commenting that I felt people really didn’t want me at an event there. I lived two miles from Leimert Park, still live in the area and have gone there a few times for the King Day parade, Juneteenth and one Africa Town market day. I was actually invited to help promote the event on Instagram with a friend because they wanted more business. I was wearing an event shirt.

This lady responds that my mere white presence pushes black people out of Leimert Park. She said I deserved to be treated poorly in Leimert Park because I represent gentrification. All I said was I went to an event there and was clearly not welcome. I didn’t get into specifics but I will now.

As I was standing there a few men came directly next to me and said “we need to kill all the white people. We need a revolution. Kill them all and take over.” Another person said while looking at me “what’s the white lady doing here? We don’t want no white people. This is Africa Town.” Mind you the event and Africa Town’s mission statement is to “Showcase the history, arts, diversity, and traditions of the global African diaspora.” They invite people to experience cultural tourism, “Cultural understanding, unique experiences, fun, education and entertainment.” “Come and enjoy Events, Shops and Restaurants and the cultural ambiance in the area!” If you don’t want certain others there, please, stop inviting them and promoting the event as open to all.

There were other similar remarks and a lot of nasty glares. It kept happening for as long as I was there. I was wearing an event shirt. I bought food, some musk oil perfume… I was my usual polite, nice self to everyone. This is a public event in a public Los Angeles city park. I would never treat anyone that way. This is why I won’t go there again.

It doesn’t make sense for some people to intentionally ostracize and attack their supporters based solely on their skin color. I have nothing to do with my Mexican grandmother, mother both liking super white boys. That behavior is clearly racism which they are allegedly against when it's directed against themselves.

“Gentrification” is also just a real estate cycle that’s been happening for all time around the world. It has nothing to do with race but economics. The term came from 1964 London. “Gentry” refers to middle class. White people with a little more money moved into lower priced areas already inhabited by other white people because they were pushed out of more expensive areas. It’s just the real estate cycle of revitalization. Property owners love it but renters hate it as rents correlate with property values and go up. It also happens in commercial, industrial and rural areas. People should just treat others kindly.
