Truth about Donald Trump, Willie Brown and an almost Helicopter Crash by Mary Cummins

willie brown, kamala harris, nate holden, black, mary cummins, helicopter crash, donald trump, trump towers, ambassador hotel, mary cummins, appraiser, appraisal, los angeles, california

UPDATE: I posted about this almost helicopter crash 11/04/2016. I posted this article 08/09/24 at 2:58 pm. I then emailed it to NY Times, tweeted it to NY Times, Trump and posted it on my LinkedIn and Facebook pages. NY Times and few other journalists emailed me. Some asked for Nate Holden contact which I shared. They contacted him to confirm story and then ran articles about the most likely mixup of Donald Trump's story later yesterday. I believe Trump mixed up Willie Brown for Nate Holden. All other aspects of Trump's story match Nate's story, i.e. date, place, Barbara Res story, Taj Mahal...

ORIGINAL: When I heard the story about Donald Trump and black California politician Willie Brown and an almost helicopter crash it sounded familiar. I remembered a story from black California politician Nate Holden when he rode in a helicopter with Trump and almost crashed before making an emergency landing in New Jersey in 1990. I remembered because it mentioned the Ambassador Hotel which I appraised for Trump's potential "Trump Tower" deal. I met Trump's main real estate person Barbara Res when I was working with the Schine family who owned the shuttered hotel.

Below is the text from Nate Holden's November 2016 post. A link to the post is below that. I saved the text and post image in 2016 and just found it today when I heard Trump might sue the NY Times. Notice image above says "1 hour." I saved it one hour after Nate posted it November 2016. Then I searched my friend Nate's Facebook page and the post was still there. Based on the opening of Taj Mahal April 5, 1990 that is probably when it happened.

"In my recent post I stated that Donald Trump is, "Not a giver to charities" At the conclusion, I said I would report how we avoided a crash in one of his helicopters. Here is the story. I guess Pence didn't get the memo about "Trump Air"

"The Donald" asked me to return to New York to continue discussion on the acquisition of the Ambassador Hotel site and to accompany him to Atlantic City at the opening of the Taj Mahal, his newly built gambling casino. After a short visit in his office, we took the elevator to the lobby on our way to the launching pad. While in the lobby there were a number of people who acknowledged me by saying, "Hi, Senator Holden! Are you living in New York now?" DT said to me, "This is my building and more people know you then know me!" LOL That bothered him.

From that point, we proceeded to take his limo to the launching pad. It was the bumpiest limo ride I ever had! Shocks were gone. Every pot hole we hit was a big bounce. I couldn't believe his limo was not well maintained. We arrived at the launching pad and boarded the helicopter. Traveling with us was Barbara Res and one other individual. We had 2 pilots. BTW the helicopter was a refurbished military helicopter. "The Donald" said, "I have 2 pilots. In case one dies, the other can take over." As we gained altitude heading towards Atlantic City, DT talked about how beautiful the skyline was and how he was going to build the tallest building back in Los Angeles at the Ambassador Hotel site. After a short period of time the pilot began to yell at DT to, "Shut up! Shut up! Keep quiet!" The ride got rougher and rougher. The pilot then announced that the hydraulic system had just failed! They kept it airborne by pumping manually. Just then, I remembered that some of DT's top executives had died 6 months earlier in a helicopter crash because the hydraulic system failed. To make a long story short, we had an emergency landing in Linden, NJ which I am familiar with because I grew up in the area, Elizabeth. "The Donald" turned white as a ghost! I got angry because the plane was not properly maintained and I made my feelings known to the maintenance personnel. One had just crashed and this one was about to crash. I was very upset.

But that is not the worst part of the trip. We boarded another helicopter going to Atlantic City and when we arrived and de-boarded there was a red carpet for DT to enter the Taj Mahal surrounded by a welcoming committee on both sides of the red carpet. As we entered they began to applaud "The Donald" I walked side by side with him. The moment we entered the Taj Mahal he asked me if I wanted to have lunch and then he disappeared. His female assistant took me to a cafeteria area, which was demeaning to me, and then actually asked me to pay for my lunch! I refused! "The Donald" was no where to be found.

That was the straw that broke the camels back as far as I was concerned. I returned to NYC, checked out of his hotel where they charged me $450 per day even though I was invited by him. After that visit I did not hold him in high esteem. That's "The Donald" for you. That is what he was then and what he is today. He takes away and gives nothing back."

Nate's post was still there when I searched for it by word "helicopter."

The case where the three Trump employees died was October 10, 1989 in Lacey Township, New Jersey. Three top executives in Donald Trump's organization were killed. That means Nate's ride was 1990. Ambassador Hotel shuttered 1989. I appraised it 1990. Taj Mahal casino mentioned in Nate's post opened in April 5, 1990. Article about the crash.

I actually wrote about this in 2016.

I also wrote about the Ambassador Hotel deal in 2016.

https://mary--cummins.blogspot.com/2016/10/donald-trump-and-ambassador-hotel-in.html

Turns out Barbara Res wrote about the helicopter story in her biography "Tower of Lies: What My Eighteen Years of Working With Donald Trump Reveals About Him" published in 2020. Her story matches Nate's.

Willie Brown allegedly dated Kamala Harris 1994-1995 or so. This helicopter incident happened in 1990. There's no reason why Brown or Holden would be talking shit about Kamala Harris especially at this time. In 1990 she was only the Deputy DA. 1998 she was Assistant DA. She wasn't the DA until 2002 long after these events. There are sometime a few Deputy DA, Assistant DA.

Other posts by Nate Holden about Donald Trump. None are positive.

"A picture is worth 1000 words!  25 years ago at my meeting where I gave Donald Trump the opportunity to use the microphone he proposed a deal to acquire the Ambassador Hotel for a future development project. As you can see from the expression on my face, his deal was unbelievable. Since that time his deals have also been unbelievable. Hence, so many bankruptcies!!!!  His investors were the ones who lost money in the Ambassador Hotel deal. The American people should be reluctant to become his investors.  The price of such a deal would bring a depression in the highest order. I know Donald Trump. The American people should be warned not to learn about him the hard way.  Feel free to share!"

"Donald Trump’s Confidant, Michael Cohen’s Interview with Vanity Fair

It has been reported today that Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's confidant, interviewed with Vanity Fair, and claimed that when South African leader Nelson Mandela died, Donald Trump remarked, “Name one country run by a black person that’s not a s***hole,’ and then he added, ‘Name one city.” When Donald Trump requested to build a high rise on Wilshire Blvd. at the site of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, CA, he requested authorization from Mayor Tom Bradley, who referred Donald Trump to me, stating that it would be my decision because it was in my district. I had no idea that he thought I was a s***hole, after all, I am BLACK. Never the less, I supported the project. At the time he was negotiating to build the high rise, Donald trump invited me to New York twice, to visit him at the Trump Tower. Donald Trump also asked me to join him on his private plane to Atlantic City at the dedication of the Taj Mahal. After all that has been said, it is my opinion that Donald Trump is a very confused individual."

"Trump is always bidding on projects that his investors can NOT afford!  Read this LA Times Article and see for yourself.  His investors bought the right to develop the Ambassador Hotel site.  That was my council district and I helped make the arrangements.  The project was moving smoothly and would have been in competition with the Century City development projects.  It spooked Zev Yaroslavsky who represented the 5th council district, which included Century City. I was very upset when Zev Yaroslavsky Richard Katz, who represented the Assembly district in the valley, and Jackie Goldberg called a news conference at the Hotel site protesting the development. Shortly thereafter, Jackie Goldberg and the school board invoked eminent domain action for the purpose of building a school.  The school district put $50 million in a trust a fund and Donald spent it!  So when Donald won the right to reacquire the property he could not repay the $50 million to the trust fund.  The rest is history!"

Garry Shandling's home for sale at 1745 Correa Way, Los Angeles, California. Did he have financial problems before his death?

Garry Shandling, comedian, home, house, agent, Billy Rose, 1745 Correa way, los angeles, california 90049, Mary Cummins, real estate appraiser, appraisal, for sale, MLS,
The home where Garry Shandling lived for 26 years was listed for sale as a pocket listing days before his death. I was only able to find it after his death because the agent listed the actual square footage and named the photos "Garry Shandling" by number. Otherwise it was not publicly listed by address or name. It wasn't listed in the MLS. It was listed per Google cache March 23, 2016 at the latest.

Garry Shandling bought the home in 1990 for undisclosed amount. In 2011 Garry grant deeded it to Wagner trust with trustee Joel L Mandel at 9100 Wilshire, Beverly Hills, California 90212. Joel Lawrence Mandel is an attorney in Beverly Hills. I also see it was controlled by James F Walters (Trustee), Wagner (Trust), And Grant Tani Barash Altman Llc. The Grant trust is run by a lawyer in Beverly Hills at the same address as Joel L Mandel, ROGER A. BROWNING, ESQ. Grant Tani Barash Altman LLC is a business manager that works with wealth managers for wealthy people. This must just be Garry's holding company manager. Still, why was Garry selling his home? I feel it may have caused his stress. There were modest loans of $600K to $1M on the proper, no default, trustee sales. This was a normal market offering. Maybe just having the real estate people prepping the house, staging it, photographing it stressed him out which added to a pre-existing condition. Either way it's sad.

The property is 5 bedrooms, 6 baths, 6,076 sf on a 48,517 sf lot, over an acre in prime Brentwood Hills with amazing privacy, security and views for $13,500,000. BRose@TheAgencyRE.com  424.230.3702 This is really a prime piece of property perfect for a celebrity or someone who values privacy and security.

Ocean View Promontory | Brentwood listed for sale by Billy Rose of The Agency

"One of the most magical properties to come available in years. Located on over an acre of spectacular grounds in the lower foothills of Brentwood, this four-bedroom Hacienda-style estate is focused on spectacular ocean views. The home features high ceilings and generous proportions, with all rooms looking out to various lushly landscaped vistas. Walled and gated, the property is accessed through a romantic courtyard entrance. On the ground level is the spacious kitchen with adjoining family room; living room with towering ceilings; formal dining room; three guest suites; an office with bath; and a central atrium. Upstairs, exclusively, is the private master suite with expansive views and separate his and hers baths and walk-in closets. Located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, on a promontory majestically overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this property offers supreme privacy and security."

Larry Flynt makes an offer on the Playboy Mansion subject to an appraisal. I ran some comps for quick valuation

Larry Flynt has reportedly made an offer on the Playboy Mansion for $40,000,000. He then reportedly doubled that offer to $80,000,000 on the condition Hugh Hefner leaves the property. Based on both of their strong personalities I don't see that deal going through. If Larry Flynt really wants the property he'll have to use a straw man so Hef doesn't know he's buying it. A development company or LLC might be the best idea.

Larry's offer is contingent upon the property appraising. I decided to run some comps.

MLS CMA comparable sales. Living area 10,000 to 50,000, lot size 2 to 8 acres, sold within the last three years within a four mile radius. The best comp is 384 Delfern for $59,000,000 which is superior based on home, lot size. 100 N Carolwood also a good comp but inferior location on Sunset with all walls facing the street sold for $18,000,000 when the market was slower. Another good comp is property directly next door 2.5 acres for $32,000,000 10281 CHARING CROSS RD
LOS ANGELES CA 90024. It also has a large home on the property.
http://marycummins.com/playboymansioncomparables.pdf

All sales including MLS and private sales. Not all sales are real sales.
http://marycummins.com/playboymansioncompspublicrecords.pdf

Based on all these sales and knowledge of the area if this property weren't the Playboy Mansion I think Larry Flynt's first offer of $40,000,000 would have been fair but low. Because it is the Playboy Mansion, is located away from Sunset, abuts the golf course, I think $80,000,000 was more than fair.

The real issue here is the huge loans on the property. There is a loan for $110,000,000 done in 2014. I think Playboy Inc may have taken the loan on the property to pay for bills. This is also why Hef wants to sell the property. If that $100M loan is real, not cross collateralized, they'd have to do a short to sell,

A year or so ago when Hef was engaged to his wife there was a prenup agreement. That agreement included his fiance getting a house in Hollywood Hills. The purpose of that house was for Hef and/or her to live there "when" they sell the mansion. Hef has obviously seen this coming for years. Playboy is not doing as well as it once did because there is so much free and cheap hardcore porn on the Internet. I think Larry did a better job transitioning toward the Internet now that print media is doing so poorly.

Here is my last article on the mansion.

http://marycumminsrealestatemarycummins.blogspot.com/2016/01/playboy-mansion-at-10236-charing-cross.html

I will update these articles if there is indeed a sale.

EB-5 Program Renewal Changes - Mary Cummins real estate appraiser Los Angeles, California

EB-5 investor program, green card visa, $500,000 foreign investment renewal changes

"Developers love the EB-5 visa program as a cheap source of capital, but it’s under attack—and up for a questionable renewal on Dec. 11—prompting developers to pour money into lobbying to ensure it stays on the books.

EB-5 offers foreigners a green card in exchange for a $500k minimum investment in the US economy, and has consistently provided developers with cheap capital. However, some politicians criticize it for circumventing the immigration process. “EB-5 has been a tremendous help for us because it allowed us to put in early infrastructure before construction,” said Related Cos CEO Jeff Blau. And Related is paying to keep that help around. This year it shelled out at least $730k in lobbying fees supporting EB-5, only a tiny fraction of what it raised in EB-5 funds for its $600M Hudson Yards development.

Related isn’t alone. CIM Group spent $480k this year lobbying for EB-5, and Forest City Ratner threw $140k into the pot after more than 1,100 foreign investors injected $577M into Pacific Park Brooklyn (a JV between Forest City Ratner and Greenland USA). Silverstein Properties also joined the fight, paying out $20k in EB-5 lobbying after raising more than $250M from foreign investors on 30 Park Place and hoping to raise more than $500M from EB-5 for 2 World Trade Center."

Mayor Eric Garcetti, Amy Wakeland house for sale 2120 Avon Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026 Echo Park

Eric Garcetti, Mayor Eric Garcetti, home, house, Amy Wakeland, Amy Elaine Wakeland, 2120 Avon Ave, Los Angeles, California CA 90026, Echo Park, for sale, sold, green, eco-friendly, architect, Daniel Dworsky, Elissa Scrafano, Gil Garcetti, Jewish, Mexican, Democrat, City Council, President, US Navy, Columbia University, Oxford

Eric Garcetti and his wife Amy Wakeland's house on 2120 Avon Ave, Los Angeles California 90026 is currently listed for sale at $1,650,000. Eric Garcetti and his wife Amy Wakeland rented the home for $4,750/month (MLS report is not verified) when they moved into the Mayor's Getty House Mansion few years ago.

Per the MLS "The Garcetti/Wakeland residence. C. 1953. Daniel L. Dworsky, AIA. Recently featured in the Wall Street Journal and on the cover of Dwell. Sited on almost half an acre of land, this 3 bedroom/2 Bathroom Echo Park Hills Post and Beam home was renovated and expanded by Architect Elissa Scarfano to emphasize its modernist characteristics while making it more comfortable for current living utilizing sustainable materials and greater energy efficiency."

The home was featured in "Dwell" magazine in 2009. When I bought/won lunch with Eric December 2005 he told me he just built a "green" environmentally friendly home. He also said he adopted two cats from the shelter. He obviously just renovated and expanded the home and was just trying to easily explain it to me. He did adopt two cats and also fostered many wonderful human children. He was extremely polite, professional, funny, witty and kind at the meeting.

I bid on his eBay auction for lunch because I wanted to learn what is the best way to get pro animal, wildlife, environmental motions passed in the city of LA. He told me the city council members control the city as of course they do. Mayor only has veto power in certain situations. He told me to contact all the council members, build a relationship, contact their animal, environmental people in their staff. He told me to provide them with honest information, help them with animal, environmental issues which of course I did. Our group probably spayed neutered over 100 animals directly referred from the council members not to mention free humane nuisance wildlife control.

He told me if I want a pro animal motion passed, I should fully research it, do pros and cons, write it... I must show why the motion is good for the city, and of course animals. I must show it won't cost the city anything, will improve their image, improve public safety, reduce liability and help animals. I did this with every motion then contacted council members to get them to propose, second...the motions, vote for... The rest is history! Win win win motions for animals, the city and council members! I have since shared this knowledge with others. Since 2005 there have been many pro-animal, enviro motions passed in Los Angeles!

Real meaning of real estate euphemisms, jargon, lingo - Mary Cummins, Real Estate Appraiser, Real Estate Appraisal

I've been in the real estate business for over 30 years. I have probably heard all of the real estate "euphemisms." I wrote this short list of real estate lingo for first time buyers. Remember the person writing the ad only wants to sell the property so they can make money. They are not trying to accurately describe the property. This is why it's sometimes helpful to get your own appraisal by someone experienced. We don't look at the ads. We investigate the actual property. Feel free to add your own in the comments.

"Starter home" Shitty, tiny, run down house in a bad neighborhood but it's all you can afford

"Ocean view" If you tear down all the houses and trees in front of you, stand on a tall ladder on the roof with binoculars, you might see a sliver of the ocean on a super clear day

"Just needs a little TLC. Architect delight. Handyman dream" You'll need a bulldozer and demolition permit

"Pride of ownership" They covered Uncle Mike who was passed out naked on the couch with a blanket before they took the photos

"Cosmetic" Looks like crap but nothing a few hundred grand can't fix

"Vintage" Nope, just old and run down

"Turn Key Condition" "Just bring your toothbrush" If you don't mind roughing it before you renovate it

"Water front" There was a lake there 100 years ago before they built the dam upstream

"Motivated Seller" Agent knows it's worth a lot less but seller refuses to lower the damn price

"Bring your decorator" Only if he has a jack hammer, blow torch and contractors license

"Easy access to freeway" Home is located within spitting distance of the freeway on ramp.

"Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed - buyer to verify" We lied about everything

"Eclectic neighborhood" Wedged between Skid Row and gang territory next to the railroad tracks

"Security windows. New alarm system" The last owners were robbed...and killed

"Probate" (see above)

"Cozy, intimate, efficient, compact, cottage, modest, quaint" Teeny tiny, itsy bitsy, made for hobbits

"Up and coming area, redevelopment, revitalization, urban renewal" Gang infested, homeless will sleep and vomit on your porch. Last owner was shot in a random drive by

"As is" Agent knows it has major structural problems, doesn't want to disclose, also doesn't want to get sued...again

"Great potential" If you bulldoze it and build a new home

"Light and bright" Everything is painted white in the hopes it'll look bigger than it is. It doesn't

"Lots of living space" If you don't mind living in the garage, patio or low attic

"Rural" Smells like horses, cows and chicken shit

"Low maintenance yard" It's been cemented over but there are a few weeds growing through some cracks in the cement

"Lots of possibilities" Possibilities such as tear down or tax write off as a loss

"Meticulously maintained" Original kitchen and baths. Never remodeled

"New AC" They replaced the filter three years ago, maybe

"Recently updated" Meth house fire. Owner died. Relative paid a day laborer $50 to paint it white before putting a "for sale" sign in the window

"Retro decor" Avocado colored appliances. Paisley velvet wallpaper. Shag carpeting...on the walls

"Turnkey" Owner will not remove old worthless furniture. You'll have to pay someone to take it to the dump

"Walking distance" If you enjoy five mile walks

"Easy access" Located on a major highway with lots of traffic

"Country living, private, secluded, quiet, tucked away, getaway, hideaway" You should shop at Costco because you'll only want to make the 100 mile drive to town once a month

"Cozy, larger than it looks" Size of a match box, built for little people with no kids, pets, furniture or personal belongings

"Easy-care yard" No yard

"Drought friendly landscaping" Gravel and a cement garden gnome. Gnome is extra

"Close to schools, convenient to, close to, accessible" Too close to something undesirable. Faces playground where parents dump their loud kids at 7:00 am and don't pick them up until night fall. Street people make loud sexy times on the playground equipment at night.

"Old world" Just means old and run down

"Garden level" Basement

"Full of character, custom, unique, interesting" Toilet in the kitchen. Bunk beds in the hallway. Bizarre and totally undesirable

"Artist community, bohemian, funky" Homeless people crashed here for two years with no windows or doors. Nothing is to code or permitted.

"One of a kind" Because making another one like it would be just plain stupid

"Rustic" Run down. Used to be a hippy commune in the '70's.

"Comfortable, laid back" Was a crash pad for druggies and wild animals.

"Original" Original plumbing, electrical, kitchen, bath, appliances (if any)

"Open concept" Unfinished as owner/contractor ran out of money

"Great location near nightlife" You live directly above, next to a loud bar. Expect to step around used condoms and passed out drunks in the morning

"Second bathroom" Guys don't mind peeing in the yard...or pool

"Off the beaten path" Your friends, delivery people will never find the place even with GPS.

"Close to shopping" People will camp out on your lawn for black Friday sales

"They don't make them like this anymore" ...for a very good reason

"Updated kitchen" They changed the cabinet knobs or shelf paper

"Diamond in the rough. Great bones. Renovator's delight" Property was red tagged as uninhabitable, surrounded by caution tape.

"Don't disturb the tenants" We don't want them to tell you how horrible this place really is. They're also violent.

"Newly remodeled kitchen" New $20 kitchen faucet from Home Depot. Fresh paper towel roll

"Desirable neighborhood" Bunch of uppity snobs live here who will report you for everything

"Efficiency kitchen" Used to be the hallway

"Historical house" Any change you want to make must be approved by a committee of eight old ladies that meet once every six months. They hate all newcomers

"City living" Do not walk around outside even in the day time. It's not safe

"Bonus room" Unlivable odd shaped room not built to code or with permits. You'll probably have to tear it down

"High ceilings" Expect high heating and cooling bills
