Facebook discriminates against users posting photo of Alyan Kurdi, Alan Kurdi, Syrian boy in Turkey

Alyan Kurdi photographed by Nilüfer Demir from Turkish press agency Doğan News Agency September 2, 2015 Published under Fair Use of Copyright for education and commentary
Three year old Syrian boy Alyan Kurdi was drowned trying to get to the Greek islands. His brother Galib and mother Rehana also drowned in the fatal crossing. Only the father Abdullah survived. The photo of Alyan Kurdi's body washed ashore dead on a Turkish beach was on the cover of almost every single major newspaper in the world from the Los Angeles Times to the New York Times, Washington Post and Belfast News. Alyan became a symbol of the horrible situation for Syrian refugees trying to flee war in their country.

This photo was posted over 200,000 times on Facebook.com by various media and private users. The Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and many other media agencies posted this photo on the front of their newspapers, websites and Facebook pages. The image has been shared over 6,000,000 times on Facebook alone.

Two individuals whom I know posted this same identical photo in the identical fashion. Their photos were deleted as "graphic violence." I posted the image and someone falsely reported it as "nudity." Facebook stated that they reviewed it and it was not nudity. That photo was not deleted but I did change my profile so only friends can view it.

One of those people then reported the identical photo posted by the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Washington post for "graphic violence." Facebook responded that the photo was not "graphic violence" and it was not removed. Clearly this is discrimination against some people over others. I will update this article when I have more information.

The photo has also been posted by the following people, publications:

Sen John McCain displayed the photo on the Senate Floor
Los Angeles Times
New York Times
Washington Post
Wall Street Journal

Facebook reinvestigated photo and stated it was not "graphic violence." Photos were restored.

Cummins International opposes Indiana Act SB 101 as discriminatory - Mary Cummins

Cummins Engines, Mary Cummins, Indiana, SB 101, oppose, discrimination, religious freedom

Cummins (CMI) the largest diesel engine manufacturer in the world headquartered in Indiana opposed the "Religious Freedom" bill SB 101 since the beginning. "Cummins believes it's bad for business and bad for Indiana and sends the message that the state is unwelcoming," a Cummins spokesman said.

Cummins is not the only Indiana business opposed to the bill. Major corporations, including Gen Con, a $50 million annual gaming convention, SaleForce.comEskenazi Health, and Eli Lilly and Co., along with George Takei, Pat McAfee, Jason Collins, the mayor of Indianapolis, and the State of Indiana's tourism board have all come out against the legislation.

Cummins and Eli Lilly also previously opposed the same sex marriage ban. Executives for Cummins, which has 46,000 employees in more than 60 countries and its headquarters in Columbus, and Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly, with about 38,000 workers worldwide, joined a coalition called Freedom Indiana to block the amendment which would ban same sex marriage. They said they need to recruit engineers, scientists and other “knowledge” workers, and that the amendment would impede them -- especially when employees can work in states where they can marry.
