Today's Deportations and Mexican Repatriation from 1930's by Mary Cummins, Maria Rivera

Deportation, Mexican Repatriation, Mary Cummins, Maria Rivera, color

My grandmother was born in Mexico City in 1899. She came to the US in 1902 with her father and brothers. She became a US citizen in 1922 and married a natural born US citizen in 1928. My Nana told me about the Mexican repatriation of the 1930's. Some of her relatives who were also US citizens were sent to Mexico including their children who were born in the US.

Mary Cummins, Maria Rivera, Mexican American, US citizen, Mexico, California, Repatriation, Deportation

The repatriations frightened my grandmother. She had light olive skin, dark eyes and dark hair. She started using an old time fade cream to lighten her skin. She wore light face makeup, light gloves and light hosiery. She wore hats and used umbrellas so she wouldn't tan. She learned English at the same time she learned Spanish, French and German as a child so she didn't have an accent. Still she didn't speak Spanish outside of the house. She always only wore 100% American fashion and styles. She made sure everyone called her Mrs. Mary Cummins and never Maria Rivera.  I believe it's also the reason she married a super white blonde guy with white blue eyes which is why I'm so light. She valued light color because of the discrimination against people with darker skin, hair and eyes. She feared darker relatives being taken away.

My Nana carried all those fears and behaviors from Repatriation until the day she died at the age of 91. I was told not to speak Spanish outside of the house because she didn't want people to think I was a Mexican. She told me to stop dying my blonde hair darker. The only time I'd wear Mexican clothing was when we were in Mexico visiting relatives for the holidays. Then we could relax, speak Spanish, eat Mexican food and wear Mexican clothing.

What's happening today is another repatriation. Many US citizens are being deported. Others are leaving on their own just from the fear of being deported. The government is looking for any tiny mistake on citizenship applications to boot people out of the US. Some have lived here since they were babies. Some are married to US born citizens. Some of their children were born in the US.

During the 1930's repatriation politicians told the public that Mexicans were taking white citizen's jobs. That was the reason why Mexicans, Mexican Americans should be kicked out of the country. The real cause of the difficult economic times was of course the Great Depression. When they deported the Mexicans, Mexican Americans, the economy got even worse.

The deportations today are just like the Mexican repatriation of the 1930's. We are destroying people, their families and causing major economic hardships in the US. We're losing major consumers of US goods. US Latinos including undocumented workers purchase over 4 trillion dollars worth of US goods. They also make up most of the workforce in construction, hospitality, home care and agriculture industries. US citizens own these businesses. They're now going out of business. More US citizens are losing their jobs.

After the 1930's repatriation tanked the US economy and WWII the US had to start the Bracero program to bring Mexican workers back to the US as laborers. Will we be doing the same after these recent deportations destroy our economy? People keep getting brainwashed by corrupt politicians. We never seem to learn from history. My grandmother raised me as my mother. This is why I speak up for immigrant rights and have participated in the marches and demonstrations.

UPDATE: 2022. A lot has happened since I first wrote this article. Real estate market is going down, interest rates are up, fears of a recession are looming and companies are firing people to cut expenses. First group of people to be fired are the DEI consultants and directors. Turns out they weren't effective because people at the top of the company didn't want them to be effective. They didn't give them the power, funds or ability to change the company. Because DEI is a relatively new field many DEI employees weren't always experienced or effective. Hiring DEI employees was all for show, corporate window dressing.

ORIGINAL: Black George Floyd was murdered by a white police officer May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While black men have been killed by police officers for many years that specific black murder changed everything.

Black Lives Matter had been gaining influence and support since 2013. People had increasingly been taking and sharing videos of police brutality and use of excessive force against black men on social media. Videos of violence against black people were going viral. There was now no way to deny the intense racism in our country especially at the intersection of police and black men. That one death started a movement which has changed the face of the US.

"The country is in a time of racial reckoning, heightened by a summer of protests against systemic racism and police brutality following the death of George Floyd in police custody." Floyd's death "sparked the largest racial justice protests in the United States since the Civil Rights Movement." "According to data from various sources, the Black Lives Matter movement is now the largest movement in US history.

George Floyd's death also changed the face of US politics. His death happened five months before the November 3, 2020 Presidential election. The issue of race and black people was front and center on the Democratic platform. Kamala Harris promised $60 billion for Historically Black Colleges and reparations for descendants of black slaves if she became President. Joe Biden promised racial equity for black people in housing and the appointment of people of color in his cabinet and in the White House.

The public was demanding that government and business alike recognize and take action against racism and other "isms" like the #metoo movement. The list now includes women, people of color, LGBTQ, disabled... Reparations for past transgressions and inequalities must be made. And the government and business are responding.

Joe Biden appointed many people of color to his cabinet. Biden started the Interagency Task Force on Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity (PAVE). Companies have changed their Mission Statements and Articles of Incorporation to include diversity statements. Businesses have hired Diversity Officers to educate and advise them on how to treat employees and customers fairly without racism or bias. They are analyzing the percent makeup of people on their boards, managerial teams, staff who are male/female, black/white/brown, disabled ... and trying to make their company better reflect the communities they serve. PR and media firms have been hired to shape and transform companies' public faces to appear non-biased or racist. They have been blackwashing their websites, branding and image.

Websites which used to have only white people now have only black people or mainly black people. There are now more women and people of color besides disabled and other people on public websites. These are all good and positive changes. Below are a few websites from before and after George Floyd's death. Only some websites that maintained the same format and allowed web.archive.org access are included for comparison. Click images to see larger. Before is on the left.

It's been 17 months since George Floyd died. So far it doesn't appear that there has been much real change in the board rooms. Some companies have released their first Inclusion Annual Report. Mastercard's report shows that a very small percentage of the board or upper management is black or female. The percentage is much smaller than the general population. They did show the smallest amount of improvement in some categories but nothing has really changed much for women, black people or Latinos.

There also hasn't been much progress by the government giving money to black colleges. A Covid relief fund designated for only black people had to be offered to all because it was found to be unconstitutional. Joe Biden signed H.R. 40 which established a Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans but no progress has been made.

It will probably take another couple of years before we can tell if George Floyd's death actually made a difference in the lives of black people or if George Floyd's life really mattered to society as a whole. Maybe it was just an event used by government and big business for their own agendas of getting elected and making money. Time will tell. Actions speak louder than words and so far there is no real action. Black lives matter.

01/27/2021 Henry Tarrio was a federal informant snitch. I thought his 16 month sentence was pretty light for his crime.

He was released with a stay away order from DC. He's listed as 5'9" 195 lbs "H/W" i.e. Hispanic/White with a "light" complexion. Henry Darrio stated on video that he is guilty of destruction of property and burning the banner.

Next hearing is 06/08/2021 09:30 AM Courtroom 216 Felony Status Conference OKUN, ROBERT D. There are two court cases. One for the banner destruction and the other for the ammunition magazine possession.

Henry Tarrio has one case in the District of Columbia. It's as follows. It was listed as three cases but it's basically one case. The main case is a convicted felon having two large capacity .556 caliber feeding devices with ten rounds each. In his defense ? he claims he sells mags, was selling the mags and delivering them to a client who bought them. See images below. He spoke to cops without a lawyer present. Idiot on top of all of this. Click images to see larger.

The church sued Henry Tarrio and Proud Boys but they sued him as Enrique Tarrio. Enrique is actually his father. He's always been Henry. Proud Boys is a corporation out of Texas. Their corporation documents are included in the lawsuit. It's a fraternity. Their docs say a member can't masturbate over once a month. They can't use pornography. They can't wear flip flops or cargo shorts. Gavin McInnes is the founder.

There's a part which was redacted in the bylaws. It lists the original eight members. Here are their names. "Harry Fox, Heath Hair, Enrique Tarrio, Patrick William Roberts, Joshua Hall, Timothy Kelly, Luke Rofhling, and Rufio Panman." When the Proud Boys redacted that they just overlayed solid black text. They didn't actually redact it. These people are dumb.

He was sued for destruction of property over $10,000. They included John Does so other people will be added as they are identified.

Henry Tarrio Jr and his two friends stole diabetic blood test strips. They were expired. Then they altered the labels so they wouldn't appear to be expired and sold them. They were found guilty of stolen property, altering labels of medical devices and selling stolen property. Below are the final charges. He was sentenced to a reduced sentence of 16 months. Notice $1,200,000 in restitution.

Henry Tarrio was sentenced to jail and released December 2014. Below is his inmate ID number from the Bureau of Prisoners bop.gov He's listed as white.

Below is a mugshot from a 2014 arrest in Santa Rosa County, Florida. The name, address and birth date match. He is listed as white just like when he was arrested and sentenced in federal court. He says he's Afro-Cuban. Aren't Proud Boys white supremacists that hate women? Doesn't make sense to burn a BLM banner. Is this self hate? He looks white to me. His parents are listed as white. Is he lying about being Afro-Cuban just so he won't get a hate crime charge? "How can I be racist against black people when I myself am black?"

Proud Boys was selling hate speech tshirts and items on Amazon, Etsy and a few other places. After being notified by the media they pulled all the items and accounts.

Racism, racial profiling is real. As a white skin person I've seen it many, many times - Mary Cummins

I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I have white skin and am a female. While I'm Latino my skin is still white so I'm considered "white." There are people from many races, cultures in Los Angeles. I thankfully was raised with people of different colors, cultures, religions. In my mind we are all equal. That said I have still seen a lot of racism and hate toward others. I will relate a few incidents which I personally witnessed.

Incident One

I was at the Beverly Center in the sporting goods store. The summer sporting goods section is in one space while the winter section is across the hallway. I wanted to buy items from both stores. I asked the clerk if I could take the summer items I wanted to the winter space across the hallway. I had to ask as there are detectors at both doors which will go off once I pass through. The clerk said "yes." I walked across holding items in my hand which I clearly had not yet paid for. Unfortunately at the very same time a black man carrying nothing went through the door. The security sensors sounded an alarm. The man and I both stopped. The security guy went right up to the black guy who was holding nothing and started questioning him. I quickly said "no, it was me! I set off the alarm with these items. The clerk told me I could go to the other part of the store!" The white security guy gave the black man a dirty look and told him he could go. I apologized to the black man. I was so embarrassed though I don't really know why. I didn't do a bad thing but the white security guy did.

Incident Two

I was at Hollywood Park at the race track. This was years ago before I realized that horse racing is cruel. I was in the VIP club section which has an all you can eat buffet. A black man was standing ahead of me in line. He asked for a specific food item. The white guy behind the counter said "we're out." When it was my turn I said "well, I was going to ask for what he asked for but ..." The white guy said, "I have some for you!" The black guy was right there. He heard it and turned around. I told the white guy I didn't want it anymore. Then I apologized to the black guy. Maybe this had to do with me being a female? I don't know. I was so embarrassed. Again, I didn't do anything wrong but it was embarrassing because a white person did something wrong.

Incident Three

A week after the LA riots when the curfews were lifted I had a little get together at my place on the edge of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles on Doheny just south of Sunset. I invited people over to help me bake and package cookies for a charity event. I invited a black guy whom I met at the then Sports Club LA. He was on the Clippers basketball team but wasn't playing. He was born and raised in Washington D.C. He was the most conservative and polite person. He was nothing like some other basketball players here in LA. He was clean cut, dressed conservative. Sure enough he got stopped by the Beverly Hills Police Department just driving to my condo. At that time I didn't realize that BHPD pulls over black people for no reason. Had I known that I would have told him to drive around BH. They questioned him for 20 minutes for no reason. I learned a lot from that event. Later when a black person came to my house to buy some items I was selling on craigslist, I told him to stay off Sunset in BH or he could be arrested for merely driving while black in BH.

Incident Four. I actually could post a ton of incidents but I'll just post these few.

This next one is a personal incident. When I was about five or six I went to the Girls Club in LA during the summer. My first day I made a great new friend. We spent all our time together talking, trying to braid hair, rollerskating, swimming in the pool, doing arts and crafts. All that summer I told my Mexican Nana about my new friend and how great she was. My Nana told me to invite her over for a sleepover. I was so happy! My friend said yes and a few days later her mother drove her to our home in what was then Doheny Estates, Trousdale. I saw the car pull up and was so excited. My Nana went down to meet her. My Nana came back upstairs and said my little friend had left. She didn't want to stay. I was so upset I went to my favorite hideaway place in the hill behind our house and cried. After a while I came back in the house. Another family member explained to me what actually happened. That person told me that my Nana did not like black people. I asked why. She said she didn't know. Some people don't like black people but it's wrong. We should like all people no matter their skin color.

The next day I went back to the Girls Clubs. I was so worried that my friend would not want to be my friend anymore. When I arrived my friend was waiting for me. She said everything is fine. We can still be friends. She said her mom explained the situation to her. I told her a family member of mine explained the situation to me too. We continued being friends for the rest of the summer. Then we both went back to different schools.

Incident Five.

While still in high school I would take classes at Santa Monica City College for fun in the summer. One year I took a photography class. For our main project we had to partner off and do a project. My partner named Gene and I worked hard on our project. At the time I was staying with my same Nana. My photography partner and I were going to go to my place to pick up a camera lens and prepare for the next part of our project.

I unlock the door and my Nana is there. She sees Gene who is black. She tells him to wait outside while she motions me to come in. My Nana said this "I don't care if a black man is as rich as the Rockerfellas (?), you cannot be with a black man! You can't marry one!" I told my Nana that he was my photography partner in school. She still said "no!"

I was so embarrassed. I went outside and told Gene that my Nana wouldn't let him in the house. He said he understood and we could work on our project elsewhere which we did. The idea that these people all understand the "racist situation" and are willing to work around it... so sad for all of us.

That night I asked my Nana "why don't you like black people?" She told me this word for word, "All black men want to rape white women. There was a black man in Texas on our farm and he looked at me like he wanted to rape me." I told my Nana "but you're brown not white. Do you think black people want to rape brown people?" She didn't reply but I got the chancla eye of death. I didn't ask again. Another relative told me my Nana born 1899 in Mexico was just old school. She was a closet racist.

Incident Six.

I went to Paige Preschool which used to be on Robertson Blvd. I was three to four. My bio mom forged my birth certificate so I would appear older so I could go to preschool and then kindergarten early so she didn't have to stay home with me. I loved preschool. I loved all my friends. I would hug them. One day another kid dared me to kiss a certain boy. I said "okay!" as I liked this little boy who was nice to me. I went up to him and I happily kissed him on the cheek then I gave him a friendly hug. The kid who dared me then ran to the teacher and said "Mary kissed a black boy!" I didn't get the issue or understand what "black" meant at that time. The school told my Nana. My Nana then told me this "if you kiss a black person, you will get very sick and you could die." I thought I was going to get sick and die! I didn't. I remember after I didn't get sick I thought I was "lucky." I later realized this was not real but at the time little me thought I might die.

Incident Seven.

I was at Sports Club LA talking to a very nice friend. Another person I knew from the gym came over to me later and said "you really shouldn't talk to those people, to black people." Mind you, he just said I shouldn't "talk" to black people! With a smile I asked him why. He said "because they are dirty low class people." The SCLA back in 1990 cost $1,000 to join and $100-$200 a month. I never saw any "dirty" or "low class" people. The white guy who told me this was a thin, short, blonde hair, blue eyed super white person. Why did he tell me that? Perhaps he thought the other guy was competition? I didn't talk to that white guy ever again.

I could easily post many more incidents of racism that I have seen. There have been so many. Maybe I will post some more. Still, these few events are enough to show how rampant it is in our society. I really thought because Los Angeles is such a melting pot that we would have less racism. Sadly I am wrong. With Trump as President it's gotten so much worse.

Loving v Virginia Supreme Court case, race, ancestry revisited - Mary Cummins Investigative Reporter

Loving v Virginia Supreme Court anti-miscegenation law reversed, Mildred  Delores Jeter, Richard Perry Loving, Sidney, Donald, Peggy, indian, black "negro" white race racism
The Times had a recent article about the Loving v Virginia case which overturned the anti-miscegenation laws in regard to interracial marriages. In that article the author of a book about the case stated that Mildred Loving told her she was American Indian. The attorney in the original case stated that his client Mildred Loving told him she was black. I decided to take a look into the family's ancestry. What I discovered was enlightening.

At the time if someone appeared darker even though they didn't have black skin or kinky hair they could be labeled "negro" on census documents, military draft registration, death certificates...by the person taking the information. It wasn't up to the person giving their name, birth date... This led to many people who are naturally a little darker such as some Italian, Jewish people to be labeled "negro." The same happened with the Jeter Loving families.

Going back a few generations everyone is "white" on Richard Loving's side of the family. Going back a few generations on Mildred Jeter's side the parents are labeled as "negro" while the grandparents are labeled as "mulatto." Never once is anyone called an "Indian" which is what they would put on the census forms if they were "Indian."

None of Jeter's ancestors were on an Indian reservation three generations back. They would be on the Indian census forms which they took every year at that time. I wasn't able to go back farther and be certain of the family members. The husbands and wives had two spouses each if not more because of early death from giving birth, flu or accidents. Mildred Jeter's father Theoliver Jeter had two wives Daisy Richardson and Musiel Byrd. Musiel married a second husband after Theoliver died. The grandparents sometimes took in the grandchildren. There are many step children. Below is Mildred Jeter's pedigree family tree.

Loving v Virginia Supreme Court anti-miscegenation law reversed, Mildred  Delores Jeter, Richard Perry Loving, Sidney, Donald, Peggy, indian, black "negro" white race racism
In 1910 Samuel Jeter, his wife Mary Rouse and their eight children are listed as "mulatto." In 1920 they are all listed as "white." In 1930 the same family members are all listed as "negro." In 1940 they are again all listed as "negro." When Mildred's father was drafted 1917 he is listed as "black." When he's drafted again in 1942 he is again "black." Never once are they listed as "Indian." They lived in the same place on a farm all that time. I doubt their skin color changed though they were all farmers so maybe that was an issue.

The TIME article stated that people who appeared darker in Virginia would call themselves "Indian" so they would not be labeled as "black." These people knew interracial "black" and "white" marriages were illegal until the Supreme Court case. "Indian" and "white" marriages were "legal." They would intentionally go to a different county to get married stating they are "Indian." The ones who appeared white called themselves "white." My Mexican Nana called herself white as her skin was indeed white. Legally she was a Mexican as she was born in Mexico so I understand the distinctions.

Mildred got married in a different county stating she was Indian. This did not stop the county in which she lived from arresting her and her husband as violators of the miscegenation law in Virginia. Even though Mildred married a light white person and her children were light all of her children got married in a different county stating they were also Indian. Here is a photo of their family.

Here are the marriage certificates. Notice they Lovings list themselves as "Indian." Donald married a "white," Peggy married an "Indian" and Sidney married a "negro."

We need to get rid of these "race" classifications. Not only is in unconstitutional but it's based on physical characteristics which are clearly arbitrary based on the census records. How does a family go from being "mulatto" to "negro" to "white" within 30 years? I am extremely thankful for the Loving v Virginia 388 U.S. 1 (1967) Supreme Court opinion. Love is Love.

Shannon Jaruay Miles, murder suspect in killing of police officer Deputy Darren H Goforth of Harris County, Texas

UPDATE: 09/01/2015: Just as I thought Shannon Miles may not be mentally competent. He was previously charged with assault with a "deadly weapon," i.e. his hands. He attacked a man in a homeless shelter over the TV remote control. He was sent to a mental institution for six months. He was later found competent but by then they couldn't find the victim so he was never charged.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/31/us/texas-deputy-killed-gas-station/index.html

Sad day in our society when a violent mentally challenged man shoots a police officer for no reason. We need to find out how he was able to get a gun if it was even a permitted weapon. This young man obviously needed to be confined to a mental institution for the safety of others. We have to do something about violent mentally ill people. They've been responsible for so many murders and assaults.

UPDATE: 08/31/2015: Suspect Shannon Miles allegedly unloaded his entire clip and chamber into Deputy Darren Goforth. Still no official motive. Miles attorney stated that Miles appeared to have a blank expression in court. He was concerned. Miles will have a psychological evaluation.

I noticed that Miles in his "resume" stated he was trained in engineering and had three degrees. I also noticed that all his actual jobs were in fast food restaurants in the kitchen. I think the "degrees" may not be real. It's possible that Miles may be mentally challenged and could have been easily influenced by others. That sounds like a lot of anger to unload your entire gun into the back of someone pumping gas. It also sounds like stupidity, mental illness or drug usage to do that in broad daylight in your own truck with your admitted gun with your truck registered to your mother's house where you live. Notice they didn't give Miles a bullet proof vest. You know there are many people that now want this young man dead. Miles and his family are cooperating with police.

"(CNN)[Breaking news update, posted at 5:43 p.m. ET]

A suspect was arrested Saturday in connection with the execution-style shooting of Deputy Darren H. Goforth at a Houston-area gas station, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said. Shannon J. Miles is charged with capital murder. The motive is unclear.

A handgun has been recovered and tests show it matches the weapon used in the killing, Hickman said.

Texas authorities pleaded for the public's help Saturday in finding the man who fatally shot a sheriff's deputy in the back in what was described as a "cold-blooded execution" at a Houston-area gas station.

No one was in custody but investigators are "talking to people" about the Friday night's shooting of Deputy Darren H. Goforth, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said at a news conference.

Earlier Saturday, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a man "believed to be the alleged gunman" was in custody and being questioned, though he hadn't been charged. The reason for the discrepancy was unclear.

"I plead today for the public's assistance in our efforts to bring the suspect to the justice he so rightfully deserves," Hickman said.

The sheriff said surveillance video shows people drove up to the Chevron station while the shooting was happening, and he asked them to come forward.

"This is the kind of thing that drives you right down to your soul," Hickman said. "It strikes at the heart of who we are as peace officers. ...This was just a cold-blooded execution."

Rachel Anne Dolezal Moore, birth date, family tree, geneology, parents, heritage - Mary Cummins,

Rachel Anne Dolezal Moore, Lawrence Albert Dolezal, Ruthanne Schertel Dolezal, Esther "Luna" Dolezal, Zachariah Dolezal, Ezra Dolezal, Izaiah Dolezal, Libby Montana, Spokane, Washington, black, white, race, color, identity

UPDATE: 06/17/15: Rachel Dolezal is now extremely happy about all the media and other attention she is getting. She featured herself on The Morning Show on her personal profile with her bio son and adopted son/brother.

I read a bit more about her bio brother Joshua. Her brother wrote a book about his life growing up in his strict Pentecostal family http://www.amazon.com/Down-Mountaintop-From-Belief-Belonging/dp/1609382390 The book is "Down from the Mountaintop: From Belief to Belonging." It seems they both grew up Christian home schooled. From a review,

"A lyrical coming-of-age memoir, Down from the Mountaintop chronicles a quest for belonging. Raised in northwestern Montana by Pentecostal homesteaders whose twenty-year experiment in subsistence living was closely tied to their faith, Joshua Doležal experienced a childhood marked equally by his parents’ quest for spiritual transcendence and the surrounding Rocky Mountain landscape. Unable to fully embrace the fundamentalism of his parents, he began to search for religious experience elsewhere: in baseball, books, and weightlifting, then later in migrations to Tennessee, Nebraska, and Uruguay. Yet even as he sought to understand his place in the world, he continued to yearn for his mountain home."

Seems they were both home schooled in a very strict religious manner. Then they went to college. I would think their first experience in a school other than their home had a great effect on both Rachel and Joshua. They made their first independent friends. Someone said earlier there is more to the story and there definitely is. Still, Rachel, no matter her upbringing, showed poor judgment and lack of integrity lying about being black. I'm actually amazed no one called her on this before.

Earlier I was willing to give this woman the benefit of the doubt that she identifies as black in terms of culture, community and just got a little carried away and didn't correct people when they assumed she was biracial. It's hard to discern between racial identity crisis/confusion and racial identity as a fixed thing. I'm more likely to believe some gender identity issues are real and permanent as they are evident as such a young age. Maybe if a white/black child were raised in a black/white family I could see the child believing they are the race of the parents even though they aren't.

As a kid I thought I was 100% Mexican because my Nana raised me and she was Mexican. I realized I was only half around age six or so. When I was seven I realized I had lighter skin and hair than our 100% Mexican relatives. I still felt Mexican based on culture and everything else. Still, I never lied and said I had a Mexican mother and father.

Rachel here goes back and forth about her color. It's like she's playing two race cards depending upon the situation. To fight her ex husband in a custody battle she was white. To work for the NAACP she was part black. To sue her ex-employer for racial discrimination she stated she was white. To apply to be a commissioner she was part black. Just pick a color and stick with it.

When asked about her color she stated "I don't stay out of the sun." In reality she had a membership to a tanning salon. Previously she said she didn't dye her skin. Now she admits she uses a "little bronzer to feel pretty." If she used bronzer, self tan all her life, I could believe that. She was white as a lily when she married a black man. Why did she later take up using fake tan? I agree I feel better with a little color and I'm not as white as Rachel. Still, she's very fair and is now medium tan. I pity her skin.

I have a feeling the Rachel story will get messier before it's over. Rachel loves the media attention and doesn't realize she's putting her foot in her mouth every time she opens it. I doubt she'll ever come clean with the truth even if she gets that DNA test on her parents. I believe she has some major issues to be playing such a strange game about her color. I'd like to be darker but I'm not. I am what I am. Not much I can do about it.

UPDATE: 06/15/15: Things keep getting messier. Rachel's older brother Joshuah was sued for allegedly sexually assaulting Rachel's adopted younger sister Esther Dolezal. Rachel claims her brother also sexually assaulted and harassed her. Rachel also claims her ex-husband hit their child and left bruises.

http://reverbpress.com/news/rachel-dolezals-white-older-brother-faces-trial-felony-sexual-assault-child/

In more disturbing news Rachel sued her school for racial discrimination in 2002 for not giving her a job because she was white. She lost, appealed and lost again. Perhaps Rachel will say she pretended to be black to overcome the discrimination she felt in a mainly black school. We shall see.

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/bizarre/rachel-dolezal-discrimination-lawsuit-786451

UPDATE: This morning Rachel Dolezal stepped down. I think it was the right decision. Her situation was a distraction to the cause. I also agree with this statement below, She just should have been honest. I could see how she want want to be considered black, be pushed in that direction because she was white and wanted to be in the black community, world. Still, you need to be honest. I don't identify with my bio mom. Still, I admit she is my bio mom. My face looks like her face. My skin and eye color are a little similar to her skin and eye color. I do state that my maternal grandmother is my "real" mom as she raised me. I identify more with my grandmother in regard to culture, ethics and morals.

"It's not about race; it's about integrity," member Kitara Johnson said. "If you're a leader, you have to have integrity. She clearly lacks integrity. The other piece is credibility."
________________________

I heard about the Rachel Anne Dolezal story few days ago. I was in bed because of my back so I couldn't research it easily. I was finally able to take a better look at this case.

I don't have a problem with a white woman being interested in African studies, African art, being heavily involved in the African American community and civil rights. I fully support all of this. I personally feel she just shouldn't have lied about her bio family. We don't pick our parents. We do pick our spouse, friends and the rest of our family. My bio mother was not a good person but I still admit she was my bio mother.

My two best friends growing up were both black. I can understand how you could identify with your friends. I can also understand wanting to be part of that culture. I would try to make my hair like my friend and she'd try to make her hair like mine. That is natural for kids, teens and young adults. Even comedian Cho said she went through a phase where she dressed, acted and spoke like a Puerto Rican. Some kids in my high school would talk black, got 'fros and totally acted as if they were from the projects when they were from Beverly Hills.

As I take a look into Rachel's life she has done a lot of good for the African community and civil rights. I did read where she went to a mainly black college and was resented by other students for being white. People didn't take her seriously in that school. I could see why she might want to prove herself to others as a proponent of African Americans.

Below is Rachel Anne Dolezal's family tree. As far as I can see she was born with German, Czech ancestry. The tree goes back farther but it won't fit here easily. If there is any American Indian, it must be on the mother's side.

That said I can see how a person can identify as "black," "African American" and be caucasian. I have black, gay, disabled friends, friends with different religions and I get upset when I see their rights trampled upon. I am offended when people offend them. I stand up for their rights even though I'm not black, gay...

I hope she releases a statement saying her bio parents are who they are but she identifies as black. I don't have a problem with it. I do see black people who are upset with this. I guess they feel she hasn't truly felt what it is like to be a black person so how can she identify as black. Living in the black community with black friends, husband, son, relatives can easily make one feel part of that community. She's probably standing right by her black friends when they are attacked with racist comments. I've seen white people racially attacked just for being friends with black people. White people are more likely to attack white people who marry or have children with black people. That type of racism, discrimination, hate is real.

Below is Rachel Dolezal's tree to five generations. The full tree is on Geneanet.org. Go here and click "view family tree" to see the full tree. Almost everyone has blue eyes in this family tree. Everyone is white white. Most are blondes.

Hopefully we can all learn from this situation. You don't have to be black, white, Asian, gay, disabled... to identify, sympathize, empathize with people and help who are different than you. I'm an animal activist and I'm not an animal. I don't have to be an animal to identify with the problems facing animals in order to help them.
