Who is Kamala Harris Democratic candidate for President? Biography, ancestry, history by Mary Cummins

kamala harris, kamala devi harris, senator, democrat, president, oakland, california, prosecutor, jamaica india, born 1964, mother, father, ancestry, heritage, dna, family tree, mary cummins, husband, douglas emhoff, maya harris, lawyer, attorney, shyamaa gopalan iyer, gopalan, donald harris, brown, harris, finnegan,
UPDATE: 08/02/2024 Trump said Kamala didn't pass the California state bar exam to become a lawyer. She did in 1990. https://apps.calbar.ca.gov/attorney/Licensee/Detail/146672

08/12/2020 Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris is his running mate. While I wrote this article I fully support Joe Biden and his running mate. While Kamala Harris is not perfect neither is any other Dem candidate.

06/28/2019 I can't believe I have to post this. Yes, Kamala Harris was really born in California. Here is her birth certificate information and her birth certificate. She was born here making her a natural citizen. Her father was born in Jamaica. Her mother was born in India. The city of Oakland is in Alameda County, California.

Kamala Harris birth certificate, kamala devi harris, alameda county, california, october 20 1964, president, democrat, candidate, donald trump, donald jasper harris, shyamala gopalan
Here is the actual birth certificate amended. Her middle name is listed as "Iyer" after a name of her mother. It was amended to just "D" for "Devi." They have the mother's name wrong, first name switched with last name.

My birth certificate looks exactly like the one above. I was born in California 1965. That is an authentic birth certificate.

Now they are saying Kamala Harris is not "black" or "African American" but a "Jamaican" which would make her dad British which he was, is. Kamala Harris' father is Donald Jasper Harris. He likes to say he is not a descendant of Africans but he is. I don't know why he likes saying his ancestors were "slave owners." Mine unfortunately were. That's why there are so many black people with the last name "Cummins." The ancestors which he says are his were white people from Ireland who came to Jamaica to farm sugar cane with black slaves. See the link below for "Hamilton Brown." There is even a list of his slaves. Some think maybe Kamala Harris' father's grandmother Chrishy Brown could be the granddaughter of Hamilton Brown with one of his slaves. Colonel Hamilton Brown had a son Hamilton Brown Jr who married a white woman. Others in Brown's Town stated that many people took on the last name Brown. I so far haven't found any direct records.

The original inhabitants of Jamaica came from South America. They were wiped out by the Spanish through war, slavery and disease. For this reason the Spanish imported many black slaves from West Africa. The ratio was 20 black slaves per white person in Jamaica. After slavery was no longer legal or allowed they imported "slaves" and indentured servants from West Indies. Kamala Harris is 50% mixed African and 50% Indian from India.

Some are saying that Donald Jasper Harris is a "white man." In some photos he looks lighter than he is. Same with Kamala's mother. Below are some pics of Donald Harris. Keep in mind people fade as they get older.

Here is a pic of Kamala, her mother and her paternal grandfather Oscar Joseph Harris. Everyone looks lighter here than they are. People also fade as they get older.

ORIGINAL: Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20, 1964 to Donald Jasper Harris and Shyamala Gopalan. Kamala has a younger sister Maya Lakshmi Harris born January 30, 1967. Maya Harris went to an expensive private Catholic high school called O'Dowd High School in 1984 which today costs $20,000/year. As both parents were PhD's they weren't poor. For Kamala to state she wouldn't be where she is today without being bused is a bit disingenuous. Both parents were well educated PhDs. Busing was actually a failure in terms of segregation. Plus Shyamala sent her own child Maya to a private school. She didn't want her daughter to go to the local public high school even though it was integrated at that time.

In fact her mother admits that her child was not an "impoverished girl from the rough side of town" but "a privileged child of foreign graduate students whose academic pursuits led them to UC Berkeley. Harris' mother, the daughter of a high-ranking Indian government official, would earn a doctorate in biological sciences and become a well-published breast cancer researcher. She is now based at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories and lives in a spacious condominium in a historic building (492 Staten Ave 801, Oakland, CA, 2 bed, 2 bath, built 1929, $1.4M value today, Maya and Kamala sold for $710K in 2012) overlooking Oakland's Lake Merriff. Harris' father, Donald, earned his doctorate in economics, joined the faculty of Stanford University and advised the Jamaican government on economic issues." "Growing up Shyamala gave her daughters a worldly education, traveling frequently to visit family in India, the Caribbean and Europe. Harris attended high school in Montreal." Los Angeles Times, Oct 24, 2004, pg 108. The data came from Kamala and her mother.

I just got email where people said they didn't believe this. Here is the clipping from the LA Times. Kamala and her mother admit they weren't poor but rich and privileged. Kamala was not a poor black child bused to combat segregation. I was born in 1965. I also got bused and hated it as you had to wake up early and travel for long periods of time. Here Kamala and her mother admit they were wealthy and privileged. Now all of a sudden Kamala is a poor black child in Oakland.

Kamala Harris is rich and privileged.
I'm really against Dems attacking Dems. Attack GOP and Trump but not each other. What really gets me in this case is Obama and Biden have supported Harris in her many campaigns. In fact in one campaign Obama is the one who called her the "prettiest" or "most beautiful" candidate. It wasn't Biden. Obama apologized but Harris said it wasn't necessary. If Biden had said that ....!

Also, without Biden, Obama wouldn't have been elected. People would not have elected blackish Obama without Biden. Obama needed an older conservative white Dem male on his ticket to win. Ifffff Harris is the candidate, which I'm doubting at this point, she will also need someone on her ticket. She could also really use the support of Biden who has the old white conservative Dem support. Harris needs to think about these things. The most important thing is to vote out Trump. I will vote for whoever is the Dem candidate but please, stop hurting Dems.

Shyamala owned the home at 3945 Turnley Ave, Oakland, CA in 1982. It was 3 bed, 2 bath, 1,500 sf home. She sold it in 1999 for $262,000.

Donald J Harris owned a house at 868 RICHARDSON CT, PALO ALTO CA 94303, 3 bed, 2 bath, 2,004 sf which he sold in 2001 for $880,000. These people weren't poor. They were both Dr's pulling in pretty good salaries.

Kamala's father Donald Jasper Harris was born August 23, 1938 in Saint Anne's Bay, Kingston, Jamaica. Donald studied economics at UC Berkeley in 1963. That same year Donald was in a training program at the U.N financed by the Institute of International Studies. He later became a professor in economics at Stanford University in Stanford, California. Donald wrote "Reflections of a Jamaican Father" which chronicles his life in Jamaica and his ancestry. He claims to be descended from "Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town." Hamilton Brown was a slave owner from Ireland. Donald married Shyamala Gopalan July 5, 1963 and divorced in December 1971 all in California. Below is the marriage info from the newspaper.

Kamala's mother was Shyamala Gopalan Iyer 1938 - 2009. Below is Shyamala's obituary.

"Despite her 5-ft stature, hers was a commanding presence characterized by a sharp wit, keen sense of humor and endless depth of knowledge. She embodied an independent, confident and curious spirit that led her to travel alone to the U.S. as a teen; forge a career as a brilliant breast cancer researcher; join the Civil Rights Movement; introduce a generation of students of color to careers in science; and, through it all, raise two remarkable young women, by herself. That same, triumphant spirit was present when Dr. Shyamala G. Harris, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away on Feb 11, 2009. She was 70. Born in south India, Shyamala's childhood was rich with music, culture, art and travel. As a young girl, she won a national gold medal for singing classical Indian music. The daughter of Rajam and P.V. Gopalan, Shyamala's father served as a diplomat in the Indian government. Through his travels, Shyamala developed a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and egalitarianism. Precocious and determined, she started school as a toddler and received her undergraduate degree at Delhi Univ. when she was just 19. She left home to study abroad at UC Berkeley, earning her Ph.D. in nutrition and endocrinology at age 25. Known by her colleagues as innovative, insightful, generous and loyal, Shyamala spent her early career conducting research at Berkeley's Dept of Zoology and Cancer Research Lab. She returned to the U.C. campus for the last decade of her work at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab. Her talent as a breast cancer researcher took her to universities around the world, from the Univ. of Illinois and Univ. of Wisconsin, to France, Italy, and a 16-year tenure at the Lady Davis Institute for Med Research at the Jewish General Hosp and the Dept of Med at McGill Univ. in Montreal. She made substantial contributions to the field of hormones and breast cancer, publishing her research in countless journals and receiving numerous honors. A frequent National Institure of Health peer reviewer and Federal Advisory Committee site visit team member, Shyamala's distinction led to her service on the President's Special Comm'n on Breast Cancer. One of her greatest contributions was her seminal work in isolating and characterizing the progesterone receptor gene in a mouse which was a momentous finding that transformed our understanding of the hormone-responsiveness of breast tissue. Her discovery sparked a plethora of advancements regarding the role of progesterone and its cellular receptor in breast biology and cancer. Perhaps Shyamala's most enduring legacy in science stemmed from her efforts as a teacher. Dozens of students populated her lab through the years. Often of color and the first in their families to pursue careers in science, these students eagerly sought Shyamala's mentorship, which often stretched beyond the lab to encompass lessons in life. Whether helping a student negotiate the UC bureaucracy, find an affordable apartment, or enjoy a home cooked meal, Shyamala was there. She took tremendous pride in their love of learning and later successes, as many grew to take on leadership positions in medicine and science. And then there were the quiet acts of kindness she performed without fanfare or notoriety, such as counseling and comforting African-American women battling breast cancer. Her passion for science was augmented by a fervent commitment to social justice. While a student at Berkeley in the '60s, she became fully engaged in the Civil Rights Movement, leading to a lifelong fight against injustice, racial discrimination and intolerance. She instilled these values in her daughters, who in turn have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of justice and equality - one as the first female elected District Attorney of SF and the other as vice president of Peace and Social Justice at the Ford Foundation in NY. But for all she accomplished in her life and career, the roles Shyamala cherished most were of "Mommy" and "Grandma." She relished every moment she spent with her daughters and her self-described "greatest gift," her granddaughter. The void Shyamala leaves is deep. Missed and loved by those she left behind, her spirit lives on in her daughters, Kamala and Maya; son-in-law, Tony; granddaughter, Meena; mother, Rajam; brother, Balachandran; sisters, Sarala and Mahalakshmi; niece, Sharada; and many extended family members and friends."

I've updated the family tree and added Kamala Harris' husband's side. I'm related through Kamala's husband's first wife though not closely.

Kamala Harris' paternal grandparents were "Maas" Oscar Joseph Harris 1914-1976 Brown's Town, Jamaica and Miss Beryl Finegan. I haven't been able to find much about them via records. The pic I have is over exposed.

Kamala Harris' maternal grandparents were P.V. Gopalan a high ranking Indian government diplomat and Rajam. P.V. Gopalan died February 16, 2011 in India. He was able to send his daughters to college then graduate school in the states.

Kamala Harris' paternal great grandparents were allegedly Joseph Alexander Harris 1874-1939 and Chrishy Christiana Brown. I base this on what Kamala's father stated. If that's the case they both appear to be descended from the same Colonel Hamilton Brown family. Kamala Harris' father stated the same. I'm not so sure of this as Hamilton Brown was white and Irish. His wives were white. Other children were white. Not only that but the original inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arawak tribe who came from South America. They were enslaved by the Spanish. They were basically wiped out by disease and war. That is why Spain imported many West African slaves to Jamaica. At one point slaves outnumbered others by 20 to one. Kamala's father claims his heritage is not from Africa.

Col. Hamilton Brown was born in Ireland 1775. He went to Jamaica to become a plantation owner growing sugar cane. At the time there was slave labor in Jamaica and Hamilton Brown was a slave owner. I see lists of slaves that he owned. They are all listed as either "Creole" or "African" but they are all "negro" with two "mulatto" females. Here are the names he gave to his slaves, i.e. males, March, Richmond, Hercules, Andrimaque, Sunday, Welcome, Jackson Dublin, Quashie, Gilblas, Goodluck, September, Fox, Caeson, Charles, Profit, Industry, Frank, Louisiana, females, Emmy, Matilda, Charlotte. He had 177 slaves as of 1832. Below is the "Former British Colonial Dependencies, Slave Registers, 1813-1834."

Kamala Harris, slaves owned by Hamilton Brown in Jamaica 1832

Ireland was against slave ownership at the time. Hamilton Brown told people in Ireland not to interfere in his slaves as they were better taken care of than poor people in Ireland or England at the time. There are mentions of slaves being whipped and beaten to force them to work.

When slavery ended in Jamaica in 1834 and slaves were freed the Brown's urged Irish people to come to Jamaica promising work. These newly arrived Irish basically became slaves due to low pay. Many also died from tropical diseases. The Irish was government was against this. At that time they also brought indentured servants, slaves from India to Jamaica. This is why Jamaica is a multi-cultural nation.

After slavery was abolished in the United States and slaves were set free they were able to choose their own last name. Many chose the last name of their owner. Others chose the last name of famous slave owners such as Hamilton, Brown, Washington and Smith. This is why these names are so popular. Perhaps that is what happened in this case in Jamaica. I don't know why else Kamala's father would brag that he is descended from slave owners and is not African. Whatever the case this is the data I found so far. The generations go from fully white English, Irish to the next generation being black. Check back as I'm sure I'll be updating it when I figure this out. I'm basing this on what the father said which could be, appears to be wrong. Based on what I'm seeing Kamala Harris is half African American with heritage via Jamaica. There is an outspoken African American who says she is not African American. Maybe this is a GOP plant just to attack Kamala. Her ancestry on her mother's side is correct.

Who is Sheila Miyoshi Jager who once dated Barack Obama? Family, history, biography - by Mary Cummins

President Barack Obama, sheila miyoshi jager, bernd jager, david jager, shinko sakata jager, mother, father, birth day, husband  jiyul kim, ruth bromstein, netherlands, japan, professor, proposal, dating,  marriage, rising star the making of barack obama, michelle obama, david garrow, book
BREAKING STORY. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES.

UPDATE 05/06/2017: Sheila Jager did not tell the media about her sexy times with Obama as far as I can tell. That was another woman whom Obama dated. I'm relieved to hear that. It's always low class to kiss and tell.

Sheila Jager still supposedly, I'm not sure at the moment, said Obama considered his identity, whom he should date, marry, all normal things any person considers. I personally believe Obama was attracted to Jager the same way in which he was later attracted to Michelle. They're both smart, pretty, great bodies, educated. I think the media is trying to make it look like Obama chose Michelle because she was black. Obama clearly asked Jager to marry him. She said no. He moved on to another woman equally as educated and brilliant. The one thing I do know is that I really see a strong connection between Obama and Michelle.

ORIGINAL: Registered Republican Sheila Miyoshi Jager was born November 19, 1963. Her father was Bernd S Jager born October 27, 1931 in the Netherlands, died March 30, 2015 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Here is his obituary translated from French.

"Bernd Jager 1931 - 2015 It is with profound sadness that we announce to you the death of Professor Bernd Jager, who happened on Monday March 30, 2015, at the age of 83, surrounded by his son David and some of his students . Bernd Jager was born in Groningen, the Netherlands and studied agronomy at the Royal Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Deventer. As a young student, he served as assistant to Dr. Albert Schweitzer in Lambarene, West Africa. Bernard Jager then studied psychology at the University of Groningen with Jan Hendrick van den Berg and then at the University of San Francisco. He earned his doctorate from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Professor Jager participated in the founding of the humanist psychology movement in California. He worked with Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May, James Hillman and Ronald David Laing. He taught psychology at the universities of California, Louvain, Tokyo, Rhodes and Johannesburg, and included among his most prominent colleagues, philosophers and professors Hans Georg Gaddamer, Andy Giorgi and Jacques De Visscher. He was still teaching at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His essays have been published in numerous books and journals in the United States, Canada, Europe, South Africa and Japan. The main theme of his publications is a critique of the excessive dependence of psychology on the technology and methodology of the natural sciences. He cherished the use of traditional knowledge of the human condition, present in the arts and humanities. He is survived by his son David Jager, daughter Sheila Miyoshi Jager, daughter-in-law Ruth Elizabeth Bromstein and granddaughter Kismet Shinko Elizabeth Jager. His funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7 at 10 am, during a Catholic Mass in the chapel of the funeral center Côte-des-Neiges in Montreal, followed by his funeral with his wife, Shinko. You can also convey your condolences on www.bernd-jager.com. Release: 2015-04-07 to 2015-04-07 in La Presse"

Her mother was Shinko Sakata born November 11, 1937 in Japan died July 29, 2002 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Here is her obituary.

"SAKATA JAGER, Shinko. At 10:20 a.m. on July 29, 2002 aged sixty-four years, peacefully surrounded by her husband, son and close personal friends - from cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband of forty-three years, Bernd Jager, their son David Jager and daughter Sheila Jager. She was an exceptional mother, a loving wife and a great lady. Resting at Centre Funeraire Cote-des-Neiges, 4525 chemin de la Cote-des-Neiges, Montreal, (514) 342-8000. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Centre Funeraire Cote des Neiges. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m."

Her brother is David H Jager born 1968 in San Luis Obispo, California. David's wife, Sheila's sister in law is Ruth Elizabeth Bromstein a Canadian. David and Ruth live in Ontario, Canada. They have a daughter Kismel Shinko Elizabeth Jager.

Sheila Jager married Jiyul Kim born February 11, 1958. "Her husband of 25 years is a Korean-American veteran of the U.S. Army. His parents lived through the war, coming to America just after its end." Below is his resume,

"Jiyul Kim is a historian of East Asia, Cold War, U.S. foreign policy, and, more broadly, war in human civilization. He has been teaching in the history department each spring since 2012. Prior to Oberlin he served for nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army (1981-2009) with assignments in the U.S., Germany, Korea, and Japan. His final years in the Army was as Professor of National Security and Director of Asian Studies at the U.S. Army War College (Carlisle, PA) where he developed a curriculum on regional studies based on history and culture. He has published broadly on history, culture, archaeology, and the military. He brings his real world and academic experience to his teaching.

His first course, HIST 393 "History and the Formulation of U.S. National Security Policy and Strategy" (2012-2014), examined the use of history in the formulation of U.S. national security policy and strategy. The course used case studies of historical and contemporary security issues to examine how historical knowledge can better inform U.S. foreign and military policy and strategy. His second course, HIST 392 "Theory and History of War" (2015) examined the role and place in history of war from the evolutionary origin of conflict some 10,000 years ago through war's impact on the course of human civilization to the present. His current course, HIST 399 "War and Civilization," is similar to HIST 392, but with much greater emphasis on history over theory."

Everyone in the immediate family is a Republican. Together they have four children, Isaac H Kim 1994, Hannah Marijke born 1996, Emma and Aaron. Isaac graduated from West Point Military Academy in 2016. Emma is into acting. I'm amazed Sheila didn't sell her story to the GOP to destroy Obama's run for President. It sounds like she is for some reason angry at Obama. Someone said she wasn't mentioned in his autobiography and was upset about that. Here is a copy of his book. She's not mentioned in there. It would have been a distraction to mention her. Plus, I doubt she'd want to be mentioned in it. She could end up a target like she will definitely be now.

Here is one of her official bios.

"Dr Sheila Miyoshi Jager received her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago. She is an Associate Professor of East Asian Studies at Oberlin College. She is the author of Narratives of Nation-Building in Korea: A Genealogy of Patriotism (M.E. Sharpe, 2003)and (with Rana Mitter) Ruptured Histories: War, Memory and the Post-Cold War in Asia (Harvard University Press, forthcoming 2007). She has published in numerous journals including, Journal of Asian Studies, New Literary History, Public Culture, positions: east asia cultures critique and Japan Focus."

The family lives in a nice home in Ohio. In 2005 they paid $237,500 for the 4 bed, 25 bath home at 22 Mulberry Dr, Oberlin, Ohio. They publicly posted that address. Here's the description, "Custom Colonial,Tucked Away On A Quiet Westside Cul-de-sac... Absolute 'pristine ' Condition... Professionally Landscaped... Fireplace In Living Room... While I'm glad they at least waited until Obama left the presidency this book seems a little targeted. I haven't read the book, only media articles about the book. Maybe the media are adding the angle. They make Sheila appear mad at Barack. Why would she share private things? It's always considered low class trashy to "kiss and tell." Sharing their private letters is also not too nice. I'm sure Sheila will be getting a lot of hate mail and threats. They must have paid her a lot of money for her letters, interviews. She will be reaping what she sows now.

Rachel Anne Dolezal Moore, birth date, family tree, geneology, parents, heritage - Mary Cummins,

Rachel Anne Dolezal Moore, Lawrence Albert Dolezal, Ruthanne Schertel Dolezal, Esther "Luna" Dolezal, Zachariah Dolezal, Ezra Dolezal, Izaiah Dolezal, Libby Montana, Spokane, Washington, black, white, race, color, identity

UPDATE: 06/17/15: Rachel Dolezal is now extremely happy about all the media and other attention she is getting. She featured herself on The Morning Show on her personal profile with her bio son and adopted son/brother.

I read a bit more about her bio brother Joshua. Her brother wrote a book about his life growing up in his strict Pentecostal family http://www.amazon.com/Down-Mountaintop-From-Belief-Belonging/dp/1609382390 The book is "Down from the Mountaintop: From Belief to Belonging." It seems they both grew up Christian home schooled. From a review,

"A lyrical coming-of-age memoir, Down from the Mountaintop chronicles a quest for belonging. Raised in northwestern Montana by Pentecostal homesteaders whose twenty-year experiment in subsistence living was closely tied to their faith, Joshua Doležal experienced a childhood marked equally by his parents’ quest for spiritual transcendence and the surrounding Rocky Mountain landscape. Unable to fully embrace the fundamentalism of his parents, he began to search for religious experience elsewhere: in baseball, books, and weightlifting, then later in migrations to Tennessee, Nebraska, and Uruguay. Yet even as he sought to understand his place in the world, he continued to yearn for his mountain home."

Seems they were both home schooled in a very strict religious manner. Then they went to college. I would think their first experience in a school other than their home had a great effect on both Rachel and Joshua. They made their first independent friends. Someone said earlier there is more to the story and there definitely is. Still, Rachel, no matter her upbringing, showed poor judgment and lack of integrity lying about being black. I'm actually amazed no one called her on this before.

Earlier I was willing to give this woman the benefit of the doubt that she identifies as black in terms of culture, community and just got a little carried away and didn't correct people when they assumed she was biracial. It's hard to discern between racial identity crisis/confusion and racial identity as a fixed thing. I'm more likely to believe some gender identity issues are real and permanent as they are evident as such a young age. Maybe if a white/black child were raised in a black/white family I could see the child believing they are the race of the parents even though they aren't.

As a kid I thought I was 100% Mexican because my Nana raised me and she was Mexican. I realized I was only half around age six or so. When I was seven I realized I had lighter skin and hair than our 100% Mexican relatives. I still felt Mexican based on culture and everything else. Still, I never lied and said I had a Mexican mother and father.

Rachel here goes back and forth about her color. It's like she's playing two race cards depending upon the situation. To fight her ex husband in a custody battle she was white. To work for the NAACP she was part black. To sue her ex-employer for racial discrimination she stated she was white. To apply to be a commissioner she was part black. Just pick a color and stick with it.

When asked about her color she stated "I don't stay out of the sun." In reality she had a membership to a tanning salon. Previously she said she didn't dye her skin. Now she admits she uses a "little bronzer to feel pretty." If she used bronzer, self tan all her life, I could believe that. She was white as a lily when she married a black man. Why did she later take up using fake tan? I agree I feel better with a little color and I'm not as white as Rachel. Still, she's very fair and is now medium tan. I pity her skin.

I have a feeling the Rachel story will get messier before it's over. Rachel loves the media attention and doesn't realize she's putting her foot in her mouth every time she opens it. I doubt she'll ever come clean with the truth even if she gets that DNA test on her parents. I believe she has some major issues to be playing such a strange game about her color. I'd like to be darker but I'm not. I am what I am. Not much I can do about it.

UPDATE: 06/15/15: Things keep getting messier. Rachel's older brother Joshuah was sued for allegedly sexually assaulting Rachel's adopted younger sister Esther Dolezal. Rachel claims her brother also sexually assaulted and harassed her. Rachel also claims her ex-husband hit their child and left bruises.

In more disturbing news Rachel sued her school for racial discrimination in 2002 for not giving her a job because she was white. She lost, appealed and lost again. Perhaps Rachel will say she pretended to be black to overcome the discrimination she felt in a mainly black school. We shall see.

UPDATE: This morning Rachel Dolezal stepped down. I think it was the right decision. Her situation was a distraction to the cause. I also agree with this statement below, She just should have been honest. I could see how she want want to be considered black, be pushed in that direction because she was white and wanted to be in the black community, world. Still, you need to be honest. I don't identify with my bio mom. Still, I admit she is my bio mom. My face looks like her face. My skin and eye color are a little similar to her skin and eye color. I do state that my maternal grandmother is my "real" mom as she raised me. I identify more with my grandmother in regard to culture, ethics and morals.

"It's not about race; it's about integrity," member Kitara Johnson said. "If you're a leader, you have to have integrity. She clearly lacks integrity. The other piece is credibility."

I heard about the Rachel Anne Dolezal story few days ago. I was in bed because of my back so I couldn't research it easily. I was finally able to take a better look at this case.

I don't have a problem with a white woman being interested in African studies, African art, being heavily involved in the African American community and civil rights. I fully support all of this. I personally feel she just shouldn't have lied about her bio family. We don't pick our parents. We do pick our spouse, friends and the rest of our family. My bio mother was not a good person but I still admit she was my bio mother.

My two best friends growing up were both black. I can understand how you could identify with your friends. I can also understand wanting to be part of that culture. I would try to make my hair like my friend and she'd try to make her hair like mine. That is natural for kids, teens and young adults. Even comedian Cho said she went through a phase where she dressed, acted and spoke like a Puerto Rican. Some kids in my high school would talk black, got 'fros and totally acted as if they were from the projects when they were from Beverly Hills.

As I take a look into Rachel's life she has done a lot of good for the African community and civil rights. I did read where she went to a mainly black college and was resented by other students for being white. People didn't take her seriously in that school. I could see why she might want to prove herself to others as a proponent of African Americans.

Below is Rachel Anne Dolezal's family tree. As far as I can see she was born with German, Czech ancestry. The tree goes back farther but it won't fit here easily. If there is any American Indian, it must be on the mother's side.

That said I can see how a person can identify as "black," "African American" and be caucasian. I have black, gay, disabled friends, friends with different religions and I get upset when I see their rights trampled upon. I am offended when people offend them. I stand up for their rights even though I'm not black, gay...

I hope she releases a statement saying her bio parents are who they are but she identifies as black. I don't have a problem with it. I do see black people who are upset with this. I guess they feel she hasn't truly felt what it is like to be a black person so how can she identify as black. Living in the black community with black friends, husband, son, relatives can easily make one feel part of that community. She's probably standing right by her black friends when they are attacked with racist comments. I've seen white people racially attacked just for being friends with black people. White people are more likely to attack white people who marry or have children with black people. That type of racism, discrimination, hate is real.

Below is Rachel Dolezal's tree to five generations. The full tree is on Geneanet.org. Go here and click "view family tree" to see the full tree. Almost everyone has blue eyes in this family tree. Everyone is white white. Most are blondes.

Hopefully we can all learn from this situation. You don't have to be black, white, Asian, gay, disabled... to identify, sympathize, empathize with people and help who are different than you. I'm an animal activist and I'm not an animal. I don't have to be an animal to identify with the problems facing animals in order to help them.
