David Niven Jr home at 1457 Blue Jay Way, Los Angeles, California - Mary Cummins

David Niven Jr lived at 1457 Blue Jay Way, Los Angeles, California 1982 to 2009. I met him at a pool party at his house in 1984. He lived a block from me. He sold it in 11/2009 for $5M. It sold recently for $4.2M in 2013. The photos you see below are how the house was decorated when he owned it and lived in it. It looks like he remodeled it since I was there last. When I was there last he had perfectly manicured cyprus trees in pots around the pool.

David Niven, Jr. (born December 15, 1942), the son of Oscar-winning actor David Niven and his wife Primula Rollo, is a film producer and film actorwith stints as an executive at Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures. His credits include Rush Hour 3The Cool SurfacePsycho Cop Returnsand The Girl with the Hungry Eyes. In 1979, he produced Escape to Athena, which starred his father. He was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awardsin 1985 and 1987. Niven divorced his first wife, Barbara Niven (1993–1998), and remarried.

Cheryl Ladd lived up the street from me at 9051 Oriole Way, Los Angeles, California 90069 from 1980 to 1985 or so. She had three dogs which seemed to escape her yard once every couple of weeks. These dogs would somehow hang out on the roof of her garage and bark at you when you walked by. The dogs would naturally walk down our street to our house. I would round them up and take them back to her house. She never said "thank you" and kept letting her dogs escape. 

I actually didn't recognize her as Cheryl Ladd. I thought it was just some woman. Then I went to a pool party at David Niven Jr's house up the street at 1457 Blue Jay Way, Los Angeles, California. He told me Cheryl Ladd lived in between us. About six months after I went to the pool party I see David Niven Jr rolling a full sized dining table down the street. This table could easily seat eight people. The table had wheels on the feet. I stop my car, get out and ask him what the hell he's doing. He said Cheryl was having a party and asked to borrow a table. I helped him push the table to her house as the last part was up a little hill. He said he'd been friends with her for a while. 

Cheryl Ladd (born Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor; July 12, 1951) is an American actress, singer and author. Ladd is best known for her role as Kris Munroe in the television series Charlie's Angels, hired amid a swirl of publicity prior to its second season in 1977 to replace the departing Farrah Fawcett-Majors. Ladd remained with the show until its cancellation in 1981.


Her house was last listed for sale in 2001 for $3.95M. That listing expired. It was also listed for lease in 2007 for $24,000/month. That listing also expired. You can't see the house from the street. Hopefully you can see the pics in the link below.

I lived at 9170 Thrasher Avenue in Los Angeles, California since I was born in 1965. I was a huge fan of "The Three Stooges" growing up. I had seen Moe Howard at the local Safeway now called Vons on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. I also saw him at the post office on San Vicente. He had a box there and so did my Nana who raised me. My sister and I opened the door for Moe at the post office once and he gave us each a nickel. We were so excited about that. 

I had a girlfriend named Valerie Delap who lived down the street from me. We were both HUGE "Three Stooges" fans even though our parents forbid us to watch thinking we'd poke each other's eyes out with their stunts. We knew they were obviously just stunts. We were both nine years old in early 1975. I said to my girlfriend "Moe lives a few doors up. Let's get an autograph!" She said "yes!" so we walked up the street. She was shy, got too nervous and decided to hide in the bushes as I went to the door. I was also extremely shy but I forced myself because I really, really wanted to meet him. I knocked on the door, a woman (his wife) answered. I said almost shaking from fright "I'd like to say 'hello' to Moe." She said "okay, sweetie!" just as nice as anyone could say it. I waited five minutes while Moe put on his hairpiece. His wife left the door open and I saw him walking across the hallway to the bathroom with no hair when she said "there's a little girl who wants to meet you!" He came out with a dark bowl cut "Moe Howard" wig. He said "hello!" while I was nervous to the point of being catatonic, shaking but with a huge smile on my face. He made some jokes, did some slapstick and I had a great time. Then he gave me an autographed photo. I was so ecstatic but shy so I aid "thank you" then ran away to the bushes to hide with my friend while we giggled like crazy. We learned a few months later that he had died. I was very glad that I overcame my shyness so I could knock on his door and meet him one last time.

His home is a one story modern home that sits on the corner of Thrasher, Oriole and Skylark, home details below. You enter from Skylark. It was white when Moe lived there and wasn't over grown as it is now. It's never been on the MLS as far as I can tell so there are no interior photos. It was a beautiful Mid Century design. I don't think it had much of a view because of its location. You used to enter from an open walkway that faced Thrasher. They have since enclosed it. Below is a Google map photo. Ricardo Montalban's home at 1423 Oriole, Los Angeles, California - Mary Cummins

I lived at 9170 Thrasher Avenue from 1965 to about 1982 or so. Above and behind us was a large lot that had a home which had been torn down years earlier. I used to skateboard in the empty pool. Supposedly a few hippy families lived there together for a while until the home burned down and they razed it.

The first time I met Ricardo Montalban was at the Beverly Hills YMCA when I was seven. He used to swim there after swim team practice when they had masters swim time. He always wore a bathing cap to swim obviously because he wore a hairpiece. He swam to help with his back issues caused from a deformed back and an injury which made one leg 6-8 inches shorter than the other. I also used to see him at our church St. Victor's in West Hollywood and sometimes Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. This was before I ever heard of him as an actor. I didn't realize he was an actor until "Fantasy Island" which was one of my grandmother's favorite show besides "The Love Boat." Otherwise I'd only seen him in those Chrysler "corinthian leather" commercials.

He bought the lot behind us and built a modern home. The home is called the "Montalban House" and was designed by Ricardo Legorreta in 1986. After he'd lived there a few years he tried to plant ivy and ice plant on the hill to keep it from eroding. He also laid out chain link to stop the erosion. I wanted to go up there and tell him that, that wouldn't hold the hill but I thought for sure he'd consulted with some expert. Needless to say his hill came down on our road and parking area cracking my windshield and messing up my front spoiler of my car.

This is the history of the home. It was built in 1986. September 1991 Ricardo Montalban owned it then signed it over to a trust with his wife Georgiana. Then they gave it to their daughter Laura in 2009 when he died. Looks like she married Patrick McKillen. Then Montalban's trust signed it over completely to Patrick McKillen 11/2010 for $9M.  11/2012 it sold for $39M from one LLC to another. Below is from a listing in 2009 which expired.
