Who is Augustus F Sherman, Augustus Frederick Sherman who photographed Ellis Island immigrants?

augustus f sherman, augustus frederick sherman, pennsylvania, ellis island, immigration, mary cummins, new york, immigrants, photographs, clerk, secretary, biography, family, henry sherman, henry nathaniel sherman, estella handrick sherman, ancestry, family tree, heritage

Last week I saw for the first time the portrait photographs taken by Ellis Island immigration clerk Augustus F Sherman, Augustus Frederick Sherman. I was captivated by all the different people and amazing photographic skills for that time. Obviously the colorization was done recently. I wanted to learn more about Augustus but couldn't find much information so I did some digging.

Augustus Frederick Sherman was born July 9, 1865 in Lynn, Pennsylvania. His parents were Henry Nathaniel 1832-1887 and Estella Theresa Handric 1838-1912. Augustus had two older brothers, Henry Handrick Sherman 1860-1918 and Douglas Parrish Sherman 1862 who died at a young age before 1870.

Doing research through old newspapers I came across a few mentions of Augustus Sherman. Below are the mentions in chronological order. I think no one could find his obituary in the last 100 years because they searched New York where he died and not Pennsylvania where he was raised and buried. I added all their obituaries to Findagrave but people are taking off my credit.

1893. A $95 Remington typewriter was stolen from Augustus' office. "The complaining was Augustus F. Sherman, Secretary of the Tammany Hall Organization of the Ninth Assembly District at 587 Hudson street."

1894 he's listed as a clerk.

1895. "Mr. Tamsen was able to oblige John C. Sheehan, the Tammany Police Commissioner, whose clerk at headquarters, Augustus F. Sherman, is a brother of Henry Sherman, the under-sheriff. Augustus, who at the time of his appointment was secretary of the Tammany Hall Committee in the IXth District.

1895 is when he started working on Ellis Island. From the Evening World, New York, Jan 3, 1895.

SHEEHAN'S SECRETARY GOES. Sherman Resigns to Accept a Position on Ellis Island. Augustus F. Sherman, private secretary to Police Commissioner J.C. Sheehan, has tendered his resignation to the Commissioner, to take effect as soon as his successor shall be appointed. Mr. Sherman was appointed by Commissioner Voorhis, now Police Justice, and served under him until he resigned to accept the position of Police Justice. He was retained under Commissioner Sheehan, who succeeded Voorhis. Mr. Sherman has accepted an appointment as stenographer to the Emigration Commissioners on Ellis Island, to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of his brother, Henry Sherman, who has been appointed Under Sheriff. His salary as private secretary was $1,700 (per year); that of his new position is $1,800, with a prospect of it being raised to $2,500.

1899 he's listed as working for the military or civil service as a clerk in New York. His wages were $1,800 per year.

1899. "Augustus Sherman, formerly of this city, now clerk to the commissioner of immigration, New York, visited a number of Wilkes-Barre friends Monday."

1900 he's listed as a personal secretary in Manhattan, New York. He lived with his mother in New York per the census.

1901 he's stationed at Ellis Island working for Immigration Service at Large getting $1,800 per year. .

1903 same job but getting $2,000 per year.

1905 Chief clerk, Ellis Island, N.Y. getting $2,500 per year. This is when he started taking the photos. He was now in charge of the appeals division which people refer to as "special investigations." This is for immigrants who were initially denied. No wonder they allowed him to take those photos. They wanted to become citizens. They were not going to say no. They might have even thought it was part of the process. They physically examined the people for disease, disability, psychological or intellectual issues. Taking photos wouldn't be worse than that. Still, some of the people don't look too happy in the photos. The photos were taken from 1905 to 1920 when he was the Chief Clerk over appeals. It makes you wonder if he used his position to take these personal photos. Photos were not yet a part of the immigration process. He told some of the people to put on their best clothing or folk attire, to hold items such as a flute or whatever.

1908 he invited a couple for dinner on the island. It was their 50th wedding anniversary. The woman E.S. Kelly described the trip. Oct 1, 1908, Tunkhannock New Age, Tunkahannock, Pennsylvania.

"Monday, the 21st, we were invited to go over to Ellis Island to dinner by F. Augustus Sherman, son of the late Henry Sherman, of Wilkes -Barre, formerly of this place, who has been employed on the Island for many years as secretary of emigration. The building covers two acres. A commodious dining room for the employees and to accommodate visitors. A large dining room for the emigrants, who are fed by the Government while detained. Our dinner was most excellent, consisting of various meats and wild fowl with all their etceteras accompanying. The emigration is very light now, but 200 arrived while we were there, and ushered into the different aisles for the different nationalities. These are long aisles with a seat on one side, one being filled alter another. On the outer end are the examining officials, when quickly examine papers and money, directed by others where to go, except the doubtful, who are escorted to another room to await their turn to go before the board of examiners, where they are put through a rigid examination and all undesirables sent back from whence they came. We were ivited by one of the board to a chair in the inner office. One woman was ushered in, and with tremulous lip answered through an interpreter the quick and pointed question, and soon ushered out. We inquired the result. The answer, "Admitted." I think we felt a relief as well as did the woman."

1909 same.

1910 in the census for New York he's listed as chief clerk for immigration services. He was a lodger in an apartment building living with his widowed mother Estella Sherman.

1913 he was the best man at a friend's wedding in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The friend was Carl Fowler Price. "The best man was Augustus F. Sherman."

1915 chief clerk in New York.

1916. Augustus is in charge of the routine affairs of the island, "Apart from the assumption of command by Mr. Densmore, the routine affairs of the island are being administered by Augustus Sherman, chief clerk, who entered the immigration service some twelve years ago and served in the days of Commissioners Williams and Watchorn." New-York Tribute.

1922. "Augustus Sherman of Ellis Islad, N.Y., youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sherman, visited his aunt, Mrs. Stephen Tuttle, a couple of days last week." The Montrose Democrate, Montrose, Pennsylvania.

1923 he gives away his niece Estelle M Sherman for her wedding to John S. Littell. "The bride who was given in marriage by her uncle, Augustus F. Sherman." Estelle's father died before her marriage.

1924 he was living at 174 Denman St, Queens, New York on the voter list.

1925. "AUGUSTUS F. SHERMAN. Augustus F. Sherman, aged 59 died Monday night in New York City hospital of endo-carditis (heart valve infection). He spent his boyhood days in Wilkes-Barre where he graduated from the city high school. He was secretary of the immigration commission at Ellis Island for many years. Mr. Sherman was the son of the late Henry Sherman who for a number of years was in the produce commission business on Northampton. He was first cousin to Dr S. Kelly of this city. Interment will be in Tunkhannock cemetery on Saturday." Wilkes-Barre Times, Leader, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Transcription by Mary Cummins.

1925. "SHERMAN - In New York City, February 16, 1925 Augustus F. Sherman, aged 59, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, of endrocarditis." The Wilkes-Barre Record, Feb 18, 1925. Transcription by Mary Cummins.

Augustus was never married.

Below is his father's obituary.

Who is Rev. William Thomas Faucher who was arrested for child pornography in Boise, Idaho?

William Thomas Faucher, Rev. Thomas Faucher, St. Mary's Church, child pornography, boise, idaho, sisters, oregon, bernard faucher, florence kern faucher,

This is a disturbing story. I will not post what this priest actually did. You can read it in the linked news article below. My only reason for writing this article is to try to understand why he did those things. It's unimaginable. Based on his history, health issues, age, drinking, I believe he has dementia and suffered great loss of judgment. He did these things publicly. He tweeted these things publicly. Online he asked odd questions showing he didn't understand basic things. The things he said at his sentencing hearing didn't even make any sense. This coming from a man with many advanced degrees who had written I think six books makes it appear to be dementia. That said that doesn't mean his behavior is excusable. Perhaps it's best he stays in prison for everyone's sake.

Pastor Emeritus Ret. William Thomas Faucher was born October 4, 1945 in Boise, Idaho. His parents were Bernard Faucher 1906-1987 and Florence Kern 1908-1989. His parents owned a tire and battery store in Boise, Idaho. He has two brothers, John Dennis Faucher born 1936 who is a successful attorney and James Anthony Faucher born 1943. They are both married with children.

His family on the father's side is French Canadian. His mother's side is Irish and French Canadian.

William Thomas Faucher aka Rev. W Thomas Faucher went to seminary school starting at the age of 13. I can only imagine that maybe he was gay in an strict Catholic family and thought the priesthood could cure that. From the article, "At 13, he left home to go to Mountain Angel Seminary in Oregon. He studied there through his second year of college, then finished his degree at Saint Thomas The Apostle Seminary in Seattle. After completing graduate school at Catholic University, he was ordained in 1971. He spent most of his priesthood at Idaho churches. But he also pastored a church in Sisters, Oregon, for six years and did shorter stints at churches in Wales and Scotland. He was a student and instructor at a sabbatical center in England.

Faucher has six academic degrees in philosophy, theology and canon law. He's an expert in liturgy, or Catholic worship, and has served on several national church committees.

The Diocese of Baker needed a canon lawyer in the late 1990s. They sponsored Faucher's schooling at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in exchange for him working in Oregon from 1996 to 2002.

Faucher was a prolific writer, publishing six books. They included "Describing Color to the Blind: A Novel to Stir the Soul," which had a main character who was repeatedly sexually abused. He also wrote columns on faith, politics and a variety of timely topics for the Statesman, Bend Bulletin, Idaho Catholic Register and the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops news service.

He was a progressive priest who spoke out against the death penalty, advocated for immigrants and highlighted the contributions of women in the church.

He drew fire for a 2006 column in the Statesman that criticized Idaho lawmakers' efforts to block same-sex unions through a constitutional amendment to define marriage, calling it an "anti-gay movement.

"The gay lifestyle is criticized for its lack of structure, its promiscuity, its disregard for convention. But society has worked very hard to deny homosexual people opportunity to have structure," Faucher wrote.

In 2010, in response to the church sex abuse scandal, he wrote in a column that many American bishops "should have been retired" a decade earlier for "terrible errors in administrative judgment." He also called for Pope Benedict to step down.

"He is much too old to lead the church through this mess," Faucher wrote."

In his latest book in 2015 he stated he was a "well-known storyteller, author, architectural designer, and art critic with over 40 years of experience dealing with fascinating people." Perhaps he should have written a memoir after he retired.

Thomas Faucher stated he is suffering from hemochromatosis. It causes the body to absorb 4x as much iron as normal. Symptoms are depression, memory fog, dementia. Treatment is blood draws. He stated he was also drinking too much. If you look at his Twitter account, he posted a photo which was deleted from Tumblr https://twitter.com/wt_faucher. Here he is tweeting to no one. He is referencing user Demonicuss who is "The EVIL HYDE within every good Jekyll. Corrupting good boys into EVIL MEN."

@MasterThomasUK replies and says okay to dinner.

Clearly this is not someone with a sane mind. He's on Ancestry asking support questions like a great grandpa with serious dementia issues. He's asking how to edit wrong information in other people's trees. It'll be interesting to see what finally happens to him. I expect he'll just die in prison from dementia. At least he's giving mass in prison. They should help his mind and maybe others can have some type of solace.

If this story has done one thing, it's made it known that priests have mental health issues which the church needs to handle. The church really needs to work on priests mental health before, during and after they serve the church. Maybe they need an annual mental health exam. Faucher here clearly fell deep within the cracks of the system. He basically just stayed at home since he retired in 2015 all by himself. Idle hands (and mind) are the devil's workshop.

Who is Christina Engelhardt, Woody Allen's 16 year old girlfriend? Family, history, biography by Mary Cummins

Woody Allen, Christina Engelhardt, Babi Engelhardt, Barbara Engelhardt, Woody Allen, Mia Farrow. Soon-yi, wives, marriage, divorce, mary cummins, 16 years old, teenage,
UPDATE: 12/18/2018 Since the HR article Christina has made her FB page and other pages for friends only.

ORIGINAL: Who is Babi Christina Engelhardt, Christina Barbara Engelhardt, Cristina Tonucci who just told the Hollywood Reporter about her ten year relationship with Woody Allen starting when she was 16 in 1976?

Barbara "Babi" Christina Engelhardt was born in New Jersey December 4, 1959 to Heinz Engelhardt born 1929 in Germany and Elizabeth Fuchs Engelhardt born 1937 in Germany. Her father Heinz worked for Buzzi Unicem USA , Inc. The parents currently live in Easton, Pennsylvania. They married March 1959 in New Jersey exactly nine months before Christina was born. Her family lived at 30 Gravel Hill Rd, Kinnelon, NJ 07405 from 1997 until 2004. It is a rural area. They sold the home in 2004 for $405,000.

She publicly posted pics of her family online and at public events. Not a natural blonde.

She told the Reporter she'd had a ten year affair with Woody Allen from 1976 to 1986. They kept in touch over the years via letters and phone calls.

Barbara who now goes by her middle name Christina married Fabrizio Tonucci born 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 28, 1998. Christina has two adult daughters. Lily Elizabeth Engelhardt was born November 9, 1995 with last name Engelhardt. It could be that Lily had a hyphenated last name which could give you two birth certificates, one in each name. Christina has another younger daughter named Emma Engelhardt Tonucci. Tonucci and Engelhardt divorced in 2004 with minor children. Whatever the case it appears Tonucci raised the daughters.

Christina has started a few different corporations namely Christina Engelhardt Productions, Engelhardt Productions, New York Girl Style, Fleischer Studios Inc, Fleischer's Bagels Inc, Champion Films and Astrology by Angelheart. She claims to currently be a pyschic-astrologist. She also claims to have gone to Princeton University.

Christina was a "model" and "actress." I see model and actor shots but no evidence that she actually modeled. In 2004 she stated this on her website "By fourteen, I was discovered by "Barbazan Modeling Agency" and was modeling internationally as a young teenager." Barbazan! They tell everyone they will be a great model if they just pay for classes and photo sessions. Those look like Barbazan photos. Not a real model.

As for acting she is known for Flight of the Swallow, Beverly H. and The Third Solution. She was in a Playboy soft porn and was a bit actress in some Italian movies. She was an assistant to Federico Fellini for the film "Verso la Luna con Fellini" ie. "Towards the Moon with Fellini." In the film Christina roams around the set of the movie "Voice" following Fellini and talking to the company. She has a brother named Michael Wilhelm Engelhardt born 1965 who may be the same person who was involved in a criminal fraud of about $50M. Same name and address.

She has some lawsuits.

1 ENGELHARDT CHRISTINA WRONGFUL EVICTION (Limited) 07/01/2005 Beverly Hills Courthouse
Case dismissed as Christina failed to prosecute.

2 ENGELHARDT CHRISTINA AUTO (Limited) 05/18/2006 Van Nuys Courthouse West
Case dismissed.

3 ENGELHARDT CHRISTINA Dissolution w/ Minor Children 02/03/2004 Stanley Mosk Courthouse
She filed for divorce from Tonucci.

Christina is involved in sexycises. The soundtrack to this video sounds like a porn movie. "Christina is a Certified Loveologist and Love Coach, Ordained Minister, Speaker, Astrologer and Intuitive. She helps singles to find love and couples to maintain love through her unique talents incorporating spirituality with relationship advice."

She believes in ghosts, tarot cards, her German Nana showed her how to read cards...

The article in the Reporter today reads like she's shopping a book deal. She made a website on WIX.

Her brother Michael appears to have some issues. Here are three cases against him in just federal court.

Who is Judge Reed O'Connor, Reed Charles O'Connor who ruled against ACA? Family, history, ancestry, controversies - Mary Cummins

Judge Reed O'Connor, Reed Charles O'Connor, The federalist society, aca, obamacare, affordable care act, texas, houston, tammy herrin, mother, father, ancestry, family tree, heritage, dna, gop, republican, mary cummins
Who is Judge Reed O'Connor, Reed Charles O'Connor, who just ruled against the Affordable Care Act, ACA, Obamacare? Until very recently he was relatively unknown. That was until he made it known that he will rule against any Obama related case that comes before him regardless of law or evidence. These cases have since been landing in his court because the Plaintiffs have shopped the lawsuits into his court. It's called "gaming the system."

So far since 2016 Judge Reed O'Connor has blatantly ruled against three of Obama's policies regardless of the law or evidence in regard to sexual discrimination, gender identity and currently the ACA. With GOP Trump as President Judge Reed feels empowered to rule as he pleases. His goal is to eventually be appointed to a higher court as a reward for doing the bidding of the Federalist Society and GOP. He and Senator Cornyn stated this publicly. Here is his profile in the Federalist Society website. He's a speaker at their events.

Of important note is that Judge Reed O'Connor is a GOP member of The Federalist Society. The Federal Society states they are a "conservative" organization that believes in the "original interpretation of the Constitution." That is just a euphemistic way of stating they will always rule for big business, wealthy, men, Christians, GOP, Republicans over poor, women, disabled, people of color, any religion other than Christianity, immigrants, choice and LGBTQ.

During the eight years of the Obama's presidency the GOP controlled the House and Senate. They refused to fill vacant seats, benches with Obama's appointments. They wouldn't even give Merrick Garland a hearing. They intentionally left most of the seats open hoping, waiting for a GOP President. Since Trump was elected the GOP in concert with the Federalist Society have been giving Trump the list of judges he should choose. Trump has been appointing Federalist Society members to the Courts. This is and will continue to have a corrupt influence on our judicial system with Texas leading the way.

Here are a few news worthy rulings.

In 2008 he ruled against Latinos. Three Latinos sued to have the city council be more representative of the people they represent. All the city council members were white people living in cities where most of the population was Latino that lived outside of cities. Judge O'Connor ruled that the "Plaintiffs didn't meet their burden required by the Voting Rights Act or 14th Amendment." The City won the lawsuit. O'Connor will always rule for white Texas city, county, government.

2014 Judge Reed O'Connor sentenced a man to 15 years in prison when he kidnapped, beat a gay man he met online because he was gay. I believe they were both gay so how does he rule that it's more of a hate crime? Seems like a stiffer sentence because he was gay.

2015 Judge Reed O'Connor blocked medical leave for same sex couples. The US Justice Dept asked him to reconsider his order and he said no. O'Connor declined to state same sex married couples are spouses due to a 2005 gay marriage ban in Texas.

2016 Judge O'Connor ruled that Texas doesn't have to follow Federal Obama guidelines in regard to gender identity.

2017 Judge O'Connor issued an injunction against the federal mandate aimed to protect transgender people finding the federal health rule violates existing law. The Plaintiffs were Texas and religious groups that did not want to "provide medical care or insurance coverage for gender transitions, abortions, regardless of their contrary religious beliefs."

2017 Cornyn considered Reed O'Connor "a shoe-in" for the circuit court position later given to Justice Don Willett. They both rule according to Federalist Society and GOP. O'Connor was a former aid to Cornyn and he "raised his profile last year when he blocked a federal directive that required public schools to let transgender students use bathrooms consistent with their gender identity." This is why O'Connor ruled that way. He wants to be promoted. He'll do whatever the hell the GOP want in order to get a promotion.

Who is Reed Charles O'Connor the individual? He was born June 1, 1965 in Houston, Texas to George John O'Connor born in New Jersey 1936-1994 and Eileen Star Boyle born in Texas 1937-2018. Below is their wedding announcement. Seems Eileen's father was working in the middle east in Abaiq which is where Aramco oil was located in Saudi Arabia. Eileen studied there and in Rome finally graduating from Saint Agnes Academy in Houston. Reed's dad was an engineer graduating from the University of Houston. His mother was very pretty.

His parents married in 1957 and divorced in 1981 when Reed was 16 years old. It was a contentious divorce. His mother was the plaintiff then his father counter sued. In 1983 mother asked for more child support. Father ultimately agreed. His siblings are John George, Kathleen Ann Carney and Michael Patrick O'Connor. Reed O'Connor married Tammy Sue Herrin born 1964 in 1990 in Houston, Texas. They have at least two children, Caitleen Eileen and Maggie.

I see a previous marriage in 1985 to Cody Sue Voss with a divorce in 1988. Reed was the defendant. His wife filed for the divorce with no children. Harris County, Texas for 198741144 - 7

Judge Reed O'Connor's ancestry is mainly Irish mixed with some German and Polish. They were all immigrants fleeing oppression to come to the new world for opportunity. The son of immigrants seeking freedom and justice is now working to limit freedom and justice in this country.

Here are the presentations made in the Senate Judiciary Committee appointing him in October 21, 2007.  You'll notice some familiar names, i.e. Senator Orrin Hatch, Senator JohnCornyn... who also approved Brett Kavanaugh and Justice Willett. The ones in favor are also Christian, GOP, Federalist Society members who ruled according to the Federalist Society unwritten mission statement. Notice Reed O'Connor served on the Judiciary Committee staff.

"Senator Hutchison. Of course. Of course. Well, I'm very
pleased to be here to introduce fellow Texan, Reed O'Connor, as
the nominee for U.S. District judge for the Northern District
of Texas. I also welcome his wife, Tammy, his children, Caitlin
and Maggie, and his mother, Eileen.
Reed is very well-known to this committee. He served on the
Judiciary Committee staff. He is a nominee that I think
everyone is going to feel comfortable with because he has been
counsel on this committee to both Senator Cornyn, and before
that, to Orrin Hatch. He is now Senator Cornyn's chief counsel,
so I know that Senator Cornyn will vouch for him personally,
and will also be able to speak on his behalf.
Reed has had a lot of other experience that is important as
well. He has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney and an associate
at Vincent & Elkins law firm, so while he knows the Judiciary
staff and knows the constitutional issues that are so important
for a Federal judge, he has also been on the ground.
He was Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of
Texas, and before that, a State prosecutor in the Tarrant
County District Attorney's Office in Ft. Worth for 4 years.
His private practice was with Vincent & Elkins law firm for
5 years, a top national firm where he did civil litigation. He
has also participated in significant pro bono work, which I
think is important for a Federal judge. He volunteered for the
Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and the Legal Line Program,
which are sponsored by the Houston Bar Association, and he also
worked with teenagers in the North Richland Hills Teen Court
Program, a program in the Northern District of Texas.
Reed has demonstrated his strong intellect through academic
credentials, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree at
the University of Houston, and then graduating summa cum laude
from South Texas School of Law with the second-highest grade
point average in his class.
I am pleased that he meets the high standards that we hold.
The Northern District is a great district, with distinguished
judges. I think Reed O'Connor will fit very well because he has
a record of public service, private practice, trial experience,
and also prosecutorial experience. I think this diverse
background, along with his experience in the U.S. Senate, will
make him a wonderful candidate for Federal judge, and I hope
that we can expeditiously refer him to the Senate for
confirmation.
    Thank you.
Senator Whitehouse. Thank you, Senator Hutchison. Thank you
again for your patience.
    Senator Cornyn.

PRESENTATION OF REED CHARLES O'CONNOR, NOMINEE TO BE U.S.
DISTRICT JUDGE FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT BY HON. JOHN CORNYN, A
U.S. SENATOR FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS

Senator Cornyn. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I'm pleased to be
here with Senator Hutchison to heartily endorse the nomination
of Reed O'Connor to be a U.S. Federal District judge for the
Northern District of Texas.
As the Chairman and our colleagues know, my background is
one as a State District court judge and State Supreme Court
judge. We actually call ourselves, tongue-in-cheek, Members of
Congress who are former judges, as part of the ``Recovering
Judge Caucus''. But I have a great affection for not only the
legal profession, but for the men and women who serve in the
Nation's judiciary, both at the State and the Federal level.
Reed O'Connor served as the counsel to Chairman Hatch when he
was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and has served
as my chief counsel since 2005, therefore I am unabashedly
biased in my recommendation.
I also want to point out that Senator Hutchison--and I have
continued, since I succeeded Senator Graham, with the Federal
Judicial Evaluation Committee process, where we get the leading
members of the Bar throughout the State of Texas to evaluate
all nominees. We have consistently sent to the President names
based on merit, and Reed's nomination fits in that tradition.
I would also say that it is important to me personally, and
I would think to the Chairman and to all members of the
Judiciary Committee, that we not disqualify outstanding lawyers
who volunteer and sacrifice so much to serve in the Senate and
on the Judiciary Committee when it comes to considering them
for nominations. They should not get a leg up, but they should
not be disqualified either. So I am proud that Reed's
nomination is being made today based on what he brings to the
table and what he has to offer.
I can tell you personally that Reed is known throughout his
career as somebody who works well with others--not always easy
for lawyers--no matter what their walk of life, and treats
everyone with fairness and respect.
I know the Judiciary Committee staff and the members of the
committee will agree with me when I say that he brought his
personable demeanor and commitment to fairness to work day in
and day out on the Judiciary Committee, often daily working
closely with staffers across the aisle to forge bipartisan
consensus on significant national issues.
Senator Hutchison has appropriately noted his extensive
litigation experience, which, as I said, as a former judge, is
important to me. We want somebody who has actually been in the
arena who knows what they're supposed to do, and can do it
well. But Reed's also been a very important part of my efforts,
as well as Senator Hatch's, to work on a bipartisan basis on
issues of national importance. For example, he's worked with
Chairman Leahy's office on passing open government legislation,
which I am proud to co-sponsor with Senator Leahy and which we
have advanced.
He has also worked closely with Senator Feinstein's staff
and Senator Schumer's staff to draft legislation to combat gang
violence, and has advised me on a number of other complex legal
and policy issues, including Federal criminal and
constitutional law, immigration, national security, and
international human rights issues.
Reed is also highly respected among his peers in the
Northern District Bar, and this shines through in the numerous
letters of support that he has received. For example, Jeffrey
Kurritan, a partner at Kurritan & Gordon, notes his dedication
to the legal profession is ``matched only by his always-present
compassion and sense of duty to do the right thing.''
Andrew Beech, an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas
County, remarked that ``Reed's reputation among the North Texas
legal community is outstanding and above reproach. His demeanor
and temperament are ideal for a judicial candidate, and his
dedication to justice is unmatched. He has a personality that
will serve the Federal bench well.''
Betty Arvin, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division of the
Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, noted that ``Reed
has served in many diverse roles as an attorney. To each
endeavor, he has brought intelligence, commitment, and
outstanding judgment.''
And finally, Kurt Stallings, Assistant District Attorney in
Tarrant County, remarked that, ``In 20 years of legal practice,
civil and criminal, Federal and State, I've never worked with
an attorney as mentally agile, personally disciplined, and
consistently sensible as Reed O'Connor,'' strong praise,
indeed.
But as Senator Hutchison notes, beyond his work experience
he has been very active in providing legal services to the poor
as both an instructor and judge for the North Richland Hills
Teen Court program. As a full-time attorney and father to his
young children and a husband to his wife, it is telling that
Reed took time to impress the importance of public service and
respect for the justice system to those troubled young people.
Finally, let me say that in addition to his wealth of civil
and criminal litigation experience and outstanding service to
the U.S. Senate, it's easy to see why the American Bar
Association voted Reed ``Unanimously Well Qualified'', which's
the American Bar Association's highest rating.
I know Reed personally as a capable and outstanding lawyer
who maintains the highest ethical standards, and I believe he
exceeds the high standards we hold for all of our judicial
nominees, and appropriately so. I firmly believe, Mr. Chairman,
that he will make a fine judge for many years to come.
I want to express my gratitude to you, Mr. Chairman, for
presiding over today's hearing, and to Chairman Leahy for
scheduling it. I commend and enthusiastically recommend this
nominee to all our colleagues. Thank you.
Senator Whitehouse. Well, I am very happy to do it, Senator
Cornyn. I very much appreciate your testimony on behalf of this
nominee.
What we are going to do, is to rearrange the table so that
we can consider the nomination of Ronald Tenpas for a position
in the Department of Justice. I will make a brief opening
statement after that, and I suspect Mr. Tenpas will make a
brief opening statement after that. Then whatever Senators are
present can engage in a colloquy with the candidate for that
position. I expect that that will take all of 15 to 20 minutes.
So for those who have children in the room who wish to maybe
take them for a walk in the hallway or whatever, if you are
here for a judicial candidate, you will have a little window to
do that. But I ask your patience while that takes place.
Then we will call forward at the end of that the judicial
nominees and proceed to the end of the hearing.
Senator Cornyn. Mr. Chairman, may I be recognized for a
brief unanimous consent request?
    Senator Whitehouse. Absolutely.
Senator Cornyn. Senator Specter, the Ranking Member, has
asked me to ask unanimous consent that his opening statement on
the nomination of Ronald J. Tenpas be accepted as part of the
record following, of course, the Chairman's remarks.
Senator Whitehouse. Without objection, it will be so.
    Senator Cornyn. Thank you.
[The prepared statement of Senator Specter appears as a
submission for the record.]
    [Pause]
Senator Whitehouse. Will the committee room please come to
order?
Ronald Tenpas, will you please stand to be sworn?
[Whereupon, the witness was duly sworn.]
Senator Whitehouse. Thank you very much. Please be seated.

Ariana Grande's paternal great grandparents are Carlos "Charles" Antonio Butera born in New Jersey 1899-1984 and Marie "Mary" Passalaqua Butera born in Italy 1901-1958. Currently I don't know the parents of Florence Citrano. One census states she's an American citizen born abroad and orphaned. I'm not 100% on that info. I'll update when I'm more positive.

Ariana Grande's maternal great great grandparents are all born in Italy. Her paternal great great grandparents that I know of are all born in Italy. Ariana Grane is 100% Italian as far as I can tell.
