USGS updates Los Angeles earthquake fault lines map - Mary Cummins, Animal Advocates

Article today in the LA Times about USGS updated the earthquake fault line map for Los Angeles County. I think this is the most recent one. It's not finalized yet.

This second map only shows Hollywood. The fault lines continue in either direction but they are not in Hollywood which is why they are not on this map. Earthquake faults exist where the flats meet the mountains. That is how mountains are formed. The flat land is pushed under the mountain causing it to rise. This is Sunset Blvd. Original roads are generally made in the flats and go around the base of mountains as is the case with Sunset. This was the easiest route. Over time these dirt roads became paved streets. Anyone with any common sense would have realized Sunset Blvd or any place flats meet a mountain would be an earthquake fault line. I don't know why they are acting surprised.

Even if you don't live on a fault line you will still feel earthquakes and have damage depending upon how close you are to the fault, depth of quake and magnitude not to mention the type of structure you are in. I think these developers knew they were probably located over a fault line. I've seen unscrupulous developers knowingly build right on top of fault lines. I saw one developer who saw quartz rock coming up from a fissure on the property. That indicates a fault line and high pressure movement. He built right over it.
