Ricardo Montalban's home at 1423 Oriole, Los Angeles, California - Mary Cummins

Ricardo Montalban, actor, Montalban House, 1423 Oriole
I lived at 9170 Thrasher Avenue from 1965 to about 1982 or so. Above and behind us was a large lot that had a home which had been torn down years earlier. I used to skateboard in the empty pool. Supposedly a few hippy families lived there together for a while until the home burned down and they razed it.

The first time I met Ricardo Montalban was at the Beverly Hills YMCA when I was seven. He used to swim there after swim team practice when they had masters swim time. He always wore a bathing cap to swim obviously because he wore a hairpiece. He swam to help with his back issues caused from a deformed back and an injury which made one leg 6-8 inches shorter than the other. I also used to see him at our church St. Victor's in West Hollywood and sometimes Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. This was before I ever heard of him as an actor. I didn't realize he was an actor until "Fantasy Island" which was one of my grandmother's favorite show besides "The Love Boat." Otherwise I'd only seen him in those Chrysler "corinthian leather" commercials.

He bought the lot behind us and built a modern home. The home is called the "Montalban House" and was designed by Ricardo Legorreta in 1986. After he'd lived there a few years he tried to plant ivy and ice plant on the hill to keep it from eroding. He also laid out chain link to stop the erosion. I wanted to go up there and tell him that, that wouldn't hold the hill but I thought for sure he'd consulted with some expert. Needless to say his hill came down on our road and parking area cracking my windshield and messing up my front spoiler of my car.

This is the history of the home. It was built in 1986. September 1991 Ricardo Montalban owned it then signed it over to a trust with his wife Georgiana. Then they gave it to their daughter Laura in 2009 when he died. Looks like she married Patrick McKillen. Then Montalban's trust signed it over completely to Patrick McKillen 11/2010 for $9M.  11/2012 it sold for $39M from one LLC to another. Below is from a listing in 2009 which expired.

Ellen DeGeneres, the Brody House, 360 S. Mapleton, $40,000,000
Supposedly Ellen Degeneres just bought the Brody House at 360 S. Mapleton, Los Angeles, CA 90077 few blocks south of me. The Brody House and commissioned by philanthropist art lovers Sidney and Francis Brody and designed by architect A. Quincy Jones and interior designer Billy Haines. I almost bought one of his smaller homes on Tigertail ten year ago.

A. Quincy Jones' style is unique. It's a very open floor plan with lots of floor to ceiling windows. From the MLS description which is also linked below. This is from a sale from ten years ago. It just sold as a pocket listing. It backs up to the golf course so no rear neighbors. I went to a few events at this house. It is located directly adjacent to the Playboy Mansion, see plat map below.

"A Modern Classic. Commissioned in 1949, this gated A. Quincy Jones masterpiece situated on 2.3 acres in Holmby Hills resonates with today’s L.A. lifestyle. This essay of modernist glamour highlights the renaissance of two movements presiding over architectural thinking today: Mid-Century modern & Hollywood modern. Glamorous entrance to outdoor atrium living space. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows throughout allow the light-filled environment to integrate with the beautifully landscaped exteriors. This house ushered in the era of Southern California indoor/outdoor living. Living room with library area & formal dining room. Sumptuous master suite with family room, study, terraces, & his & hers dressing rooms occupy the entire 2nd floor. 3 add’l bedrooms & bths, and 4 staff rooms. Pristine kitchen & breakfast area. Colorful foliage, mature trees, specimen palms & rose gardens create a park-like setting. Lrg motor court, pool, 1 bedroom guest house, & championship lighted tennis court."

Tom Cruise is delusional, offensive and has lost touch with reality

I'm sure everyone has heard about Tom Cruise's statements about how his job as an actor is harder than fighting in the war or being an Olympic athlete. Below is the link to the statements which came from his deposition in his defamation lawsuit against some gossip rag. I'm pretty sure he is going to lose that defamation lawsuit.

First, the Middle East -- Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, "That's what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal."

This is an insult to anyone who has served in the military or been at war. Being an actor and being paid to pretend to do things is in no way similar to going to war where you could be killed.

As for his physical training, Tom said, "There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I've spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film." But the kicker, he adds, "A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I'm shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day."

He forgets that Olympic athletes generally train for at least ten years straight. Athletes train many hours a day. When I was a swimmer I worked out from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m., went to school, then worked out again from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. We competed maybe twice a month. On competition day I generally had eight to ten events. Olympic athletes train even harder.

Cruise's statement about Olympic athletes is clueless and insulting. He really thinks his job is as tough as being in war? I'm sure there are a lot of soldiers who'd rather act in a movie than fight in a war.

Tom Cruise is suing a gossip rag for defamation over this statement "Tom Cruise abandoned his daughter Suri." Tom Cruise admits that he hadn't seen her for over 100 days because he was shooting movies and "couldn't get away." He's the star of the movie. He could have made time or invited him kid to the set. That could legally be considered temporary abandonment. He said because he would Skype with her, that proves he didn't abandon her.

Another thing which is truly crazy is why wasn't his deposition and discovery under seal? He's suing the rag for $50,000,000. He's giving them gold nuggets of his insane foolery to print in their rag and sell for money. This really makes no sense at all. He has lost touch with reality and should take a couple of years off or something.

Here is Dlisted's Michael K's take on this foolery.
